Q:

Polishing barrel a good idea?

Ok, so I’m about 700 shots into my new relationship with the Vulcan. I cleaned the barrel after 400 shots and I was surprised at how dirty it was. I never got it completely clean, in fact, and gave up after six felt pellets and nearly 20 patches front and back (using patch worm). I then shot another tin or so and cleaned the barrel again, this time until I finally started getting clean patches. Again, it took a LONG time to start getting patches without obvious metal flakes or lead grime. I’m using ballistol and I’ve cleaned a lot of guns, and it seems to me that my barrel is getting exceptionally dirty. Like Hoot’s imagination dirty.

I wondered whether a small amount of polishing could make the cleaning process easier in the future, but I’m not interested in turning my rifle into a smooth bore or screwing it up in any other way.

So, is it as simple as running some valve grinding paste down the barrel on some felt swabs, or should I banish the thought of putting anything other than ballistol down the barrel?

Definitely remove the barrel and o-ring.

Because the guns $1500 doesn’t mean the barrel is. It’s just things you can do to make your gun shoot better. No one said you had to do it.

Barrel lapping in 1500 bucks gun. Not bad. Keep going.

If it were mine I’d take the barrel off when lapping. That way you can make sure oring groove and air port hole is clean.

Do we need to remove the barrel from breach and pull the breach o-ring before polishing?
Or is mounting the gun upside down, removing the o-ring and breach body (to allow a rod into barrel from breach end) good enough.

What is really safe for keeping getting junk into o-ring, air port and valve?

JB is great. Get the JB bore shine ( the red container ) as well. Those two will give you a mirror shine.

That said it´s very easy task. Just get a bag of VFG felts and an adapter for those and i´ll guide you further. You can do a poor mans (Zonks) variation of a barrel polish with a Patchworm as well but it´s more time consuming ..

Porn? Ville, I think you misheard us. We want to fux the gun not …. the gun. You sick Finn!

Jokes aside, I am going to buy the felts and adapter and take you on your offer to guide through. What else do I need? J-B Non-Embedding Bore Cleaning Compound ?

Thanks in advance!

yes! proper documentation is important.

I want to see too how to fux up a good barrel.
😎
