I think a big threat to religion is independent thought. How we perceive our beliefs seems closely related to the narrow presentation of a religion by people who all think pretty much the same. Look at it like considering the planet but all you know of it is the view someone shows you, almost to the exclusion of others suggesting different views. Hard to see the planet as round if you only see it from one view or perspective. I no longer ask myself if I need any religion as a middle medium to transfer messages back and forth. I see no paradox between what I believe in and what science reveals. Amazing how people find justifications in the name of religion for some of the grim shit they do to other human beings.I wouldn’t belong to any religion that would have me for a member! 😆
The biggest enemy of religion is knowledge, most specifically scientific knowledge. As the world sees progress so do some religions see a threat to their belief system. 3 thousand years ago it was common knowledge that lighting was caused by Zeus, yet it sounds ridiculous today. This is the real threat to Islam and this is why they wage war.
