Possible scratch in barrel?
Hey guys,
I have been trying to figure out why my gun has been grouping poorly. I figured it was in the valve, because I was having the problem after I messed with it. I crushed the stem and I think the the screws are stripped. Even with that I was getting descent numbers, good enough to not affect accuracy, I think.
I have checked everything I can think of, screws, shroud, mounts and found nothing there that should be doing it. I than looked down the barrel and saw a faint line moving with the rifling, but not at the rate. How much could this be affecting the accuracy, short of buying a new barrel is their anyway to test this? Can they be honed or polished or would that make the bore to big?
At this rate I think my gun may be heading back to Florida for the winter, or sooner if Tony will take it again. If so, the valve will never be touched by me again.

Parallax could be an issue. I have never used it until I got this scope. how do I adjust it. So if the cross hair “floats”, I find proper wheel placement to eliminate the movement? What if I get to a spot where the cross hair doesn’t move anymore ,but than everything is blurry? Time for new scope? I just measured out thirty feet set wheel to 10yds and had movement in cross hair. Movement stopped when wheel went to almost 11yds. Would this problem change at different distances or is that something I need to figure out? Also is that something that just stops working or gets worse over time because I this is the scope I have for a while and never had a problem with before. Or at least didn’t know their was a problem and was getting lucky.

I don’t think its pellet because they have all been good to me before, Kodiak’s and Seven Rings, I tried Eun Jins too which are lubed. I will push a Kodiak and EJ through he barrel and put up a pic, don’t know if I can push a seven ring through.

I’d try slugging the bore with a tight pellet. If the pellet comes out with an out of place groove, it might be the cause.
Take the barrel out of the gun, put a pellet in the breech, push it with a stiff rod onto a soft towel. Pick it up and inspect the pellet. See if the rifling grooves look consistent all the way around. Also feel for tight or loose areas in the barrel. It should be tight at the muzzle, but consistent the rest of the way.
Of course you can post picts of your pellet if you have any questions.
A clean bore, sharp, burr-free crown and good pellets are always a good place to start.
I personally think all PCP and CO2 pellets should be lubed, but that is up to you.

Sorry to hear of all the problem A-M. I hate to ask such an obvious question, but, Crown good and clean? Same for the lead’in at the breach?
Parallax operating correctly on the scope? Remember, the side focus on your scope isn’t a focus at all really. It’s the Parallax. I know it’s silly to mention, but you would be surprised just how many shooters don’t know the difference.
You may want to try to lap the bbl. with a little Flitz or J-B bore paste. (From the breach off course.)
Accuracy issues can be a frustrating pita. 🙁

I’ll have too look into it. Guess I was hoping its out of my hands to fix at this point. Spent more time this year fucking around with it than using it. If I didn’t have so much money into it it i’d sell it to fund an Edgun. Which I hope to get anyway. I have little time to mess around now due to unexpected events, and would be happier paying someone to figure it out than dealing with any more stress. Not trying to come off as spoiled, I just get so frustrated with some things and end up doing more harm than good, than I am really out of some money. I certainly wouldn’t want to send it away, just to be told its the scope.

I was really hoping that the scope was not a problem because its the big Nikko, although I thought of it. I probably should try that, I was just hoping that for $900 the scope would last for more than a year.

Yep. I chased the “Mysterious Grouping” for quite awhile. Then when I replace the $60 Leapers Scope with a Bushnell Legend…..Low and behold the POI problem went away. 🙄
