Q:

Pulaskius Tuned Condor

I want to start off by saying thank you to Pulaskius for making my rifle better than I could have ever expected. I sent it out for trigger work and after discussing what I wanted out of my rifle steve told me what some of the fixes were and the best way to address them.

I wanted accuracy, consistency, power and in that order, I also wanted the hammer slap to quiet down since that was all I heard during firing. I was getting about 10 shots before I sent it out and it was using a ton of air for those 10 shots I would just top it off every 10 shots due to the pressure drop.

The second the rifle arrived he went to work on it and kept me posted throughout the day all 3 days that it was there with pictures and any issues that he found and the best way to make it better.

He also put the 90 durometer rings in the breech while it was there and fixed the problem I was having with the cocking knob bushing. He polished the barrel where the hammer rides to a mirror finish and then polished the inside of the barrel and made it true inside then polished the crown.

The hammer is made of bronze which is self lubricating and prevents galling he also went with a 72.5 gram one piece hammer to meet my consistency needs at the fps I wanted which was 950fps on power wheel 12.1 with 21 grain kodiaks and I can dial it down to PW 4.1 for 950fps using 15.8jsbs so I have 2 settings that give me 950fps using 2 weights and types of pellets.

I am glad that I fired this rifle for a while before having work done so I can appreciate what was done to it and to think I almost didn’t have any work done to this rifle as far as trigger and having it optimized.

I will start with the thing that surprised me more than anything which is the hammer slap or I should say the lack of, I don’t know how he did it and really don’t need to for my purposes but the hammer slap is as close to gone as possible it is just amazing and perfect for my city needs.

The other thing I didn’t know was going to happen is my breech now feels solid in the frame and cocks smooth as glass, now it has a solid positive feel while cocking it and it used to feel cheap and wobbly and once again I don’t need to know how he did it just glad he did.

Then there is the trigger which was the reason I sent it to pulaskius in the first place, I can only describe it as just right and I was nervous sending it off in the cold cruel world for the first time 🙂 but seriously if you’ve never had something like this done you just don’t know what to expect. Well it breaks so crisp and clean you don’t have a chance to let a bad shooting habit get in your way as far as trigger pull goes and it’s a nice light pull now which adds to accuracy and consistency.

I zeroed it in with 15 mph winds and 25mph gusts all day long but I got er done and it took a few more shots to make sure I was on the money due to the wind. After being satified (2 pellets width at 25 yards wind was brutal) I decided to clean the yard up of all the pest birds that had been taking advantage of me for the last 3 days and they ranged from 18 yards to 60 yards I killed 21 out of 22 targets fired upon and the one miss was a mildot error I added when I should have subtracted and I even took out a few house sparrows from 50 yards which really made me happy. (this was all done on powerwheel 4.1 by the way

I am posting some pics of the work that was done and how it looks now oh and another thing I am really impressed with is the breech end of the barrel is now so easy to load I can do it in the dark. I can only describe it as the same concept as a magazine well on a 1911 pistol that makes loading clips faster. The pellet still fits nice and snug in the breech too which I can’t figure out since it’s so smooth to load now all I can say is that’s amazing and thanks for that feature.

All of this work was done in 3 days so sending a rifle off appealed to me a whole lot more knowing I would have it back right away. I forgot to mention the shot string of 20 shots with starting pressure 3000 and ending pressure 2300 with an extreme spread of 37fps that is just about as consistent as a regulated rifle wo I don’t need a regulator with numbers like this. If I want to shoot 10 shot strings I get 12fps extreme spread.

I forgot to mention that steve goes through the whole rifle and removes any burrs or sharp edges in the frame then power washes it and works his magic. I was having problems with my breech scarring but not anymore.

I will get some groups posted when this hurricane moves on down the road, Here are some pictures.

I know I’m forgetting something 🙂

I will post some groups once the hurricane passes 🙂

Thanks powder, I am really having fun now and there was a lot of information to absorb when I first started with air rifles a month ago and do many options to choose from.

Due to the extremely helpful and friendly advice on here the transition from powder to air has been pretty painless but I have a whole lot to learn still.

Having all my concerns fixed by pulaskius has me finally able to call it a day and start practicing, I’m looking into various competitions and for an indoor range since winters here are brutal and it’s like a hurricane outside lately.

I am getting 990fps at PW 4.1 powder from 3000psi fill

I top it off after 30 shots and have no POI shift at all and that is up to 50 yards shooting varmints and european house sparrows which are little buggers. Whatever is happening I know that the hammer slap is gone bye bye and that makes me happier than anything since it was a major pain when shooting birds now they stick around so I can pick the others off too.

Had a problem today it was pretty weird actually and I have been putting steroids in the birds water so they would stay healthy with winter coming and all.

I took a shot at this guy and the pellet bounced off of him, weird anyone else have squirels like this?

Pul I thought you said 950fps would do the trick 😉

what about that trigger shoe, Who made it and what did it cost?

Hoot you are a character buddy 🙂 and you said it all right here
“I like the idea of a light, short, silent, and deadly Talon.”

I like it when a pest bird decides to join the feeding frenzy with my songbirds and I can pick it off from 20 yards out of my window blind and the songbirds don’t even budge or stop what they are doing, before I would scare off my songbirds for 15-20 minutes 🙁

I hit a house sparrow today and a purple finch looked over the side of my platform feeder it was hilarious he just kept eating and looking over the edge at the dead bird maybe he was waiting for it to get back up lol. The house sparrow is an aggressive bird they will enter other birds nests and destroy the eggs they will take over a feeder in a heartbeat too.

Window blind 🙂

Should I have taken her down lol (the answer is no) just kidding and they atack my feeders and water for the birds every night.

I mounted an AF 4 X 16 – 50mm AO mil-dot scope I bought from a forum member at a decent price. I was able to sell my 3 x 9 Leapers and upgrade.
