Now that I have your attention.
When considering a pump for your Airforce rifle please take a look at the Hill Pump/BSA pump. It does cost more but it will last and is repairable by the owner. BSA has Hill make their pump.
Other pumps break…ALL THE TIME…and if you open them you void your warranty and the pump is worthless. You just end up buying another pump and end up spending more the the Hill Pump costs.
The Airforce Pump will break as will FX and discovery pump. The only way they will be motivated to clean up their lousy pumps is by not selling any.
This has been posted because a lot of good airgunners have been screwed by getting other pumps and have them take stop working sometimes within days of getting them.

well im new here and I must say $200 for a AF pump and I filled the bottle the first time it was a bitch ,2.3.4 were alot easier sot gun down to 15-1800psi last time it was lucky to get 2000psi,AND yes i read and understood the directions,theres a reason more then just myself have had problems with the AF pump they in my opinion are JUNK.. 👿 mine was 3days old i sent it back and I want a refund! its a HILL for me…
my first gen axsor (fx, airforce) pump lasted me several years, even when i tinkered with my condor and the bottle needed 400+ pumps to get up to pressure. it was before they became upside down pumps….all i did was lube the shaft once in a while with thick divers grease, and never let the base get so warm it would hurt you hand if you was to hold it tight (about 60c) lasted me 7 years, and then i sold it….i know it still going today about 12 years later.
it was made by AB i sweeden, the new onces are made in china.
the fact alone that the hill pump can be rebuild would make it my choice
IMO the pump is poorly engineered. Brass is way too soft of a metal to sustain the weight of the reservior at that angle. Even a small amount of force can shear the small screw base.
Meanwhile, since the Talon is my first PCP I bought a used scuba tank and am waiting for a shipment from Pyramid with the adapter. I only shot the Talon about 150 times and am looking forward to trying it again.
I wanted a carbon fiber but could not justify the expense after just buying the gun, pump, a new scope and other stuff right around the holidays.
Same thing is what happened to me. Bought my condor about the same time as you, although I did manage to squeak about 400 shots out of it before mine toppled over. Never did bother to fix it yet, just went online and got a scuba set up. Course now the only problem is that I only get so many fills now before I’m filling my tank only to 3/4 capacity and get short strings. So, the next thing will be a 4500psi tank so I can fill much longer before I need to get my scuba filled.
The best reason I can think of to keep your pump, is that it is a reliable, on-demand source of FREE AIR!

I suppose I will probably fix my AF pump when that trip comes, but the top off is not a bad idea either. It may be time to get out the Dremel.
True, a back up is always good to have but i’m thinking of offsetting the cost a bit.
A HillPump is also nice to have, if you want to go hiking/camping and don’t feel like carrying a tank.

I suggest you keep your HillPump for back-up, and topping off when your tank gets low.
Just a couple observations so far:
Ergonomically, the base is too small for a good foothold, given the amount of force that needs to be applied to the downstroke. Additionally, I notice that if one isn’t careful, your body tends to want to apply different levels of lateral force during the downstroke as well, which obviously will eventually take its toll on the assembly. Ya gotta focus on pushing straight down, but if you’re a little worn out from pumping, it’s easy to wind up pushing down and to the left or right.
I’d like to see recessed holes for the base’s mounting screws… whatever you do, don’t do a fill on a floor that you’re proud of, you’ll dig a couple divots in it in no time flat. 😯
One of our honorable metalworkers here oughta take a look at a redesign for that base. Make it heavier and wider, and get some recessed holes for the screw mounts. It wouldn’t be a “bling” type of project like a gun-mod, but it’d provide some legit improvement and ease-of-use.
Other than that, I’d suggest that everyone change the “pump for five minutes, let cool for ten minutes” rule to “pump for three minutes and then have a beer”.
As soon as I read that “five minute” suggestion in the manual, it was obvious to me that if heat build-up is an issue, then it’d be wise to simply take a little more time and therefore not give the internals a chance to overheat even a little bit. After all, what’s the rush? The critters ain’t shootin’ back at us… 😉
So far, it seems to me that proper use and care is the order of the day with the AF pump… based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere, it’s got a low tolerance for abuse, misuse or user error.
That’s my two cents so far…
Spot on Buzzcat. Gotta be careful on the down stroke not to apply any lateral force, which is easy to do when you are getting knackered (tired!) and just want the damn thing refilled.
Getting a 12l 300 bar tank in a couple of weeks, so thats gonna be a thing of the past 😀 😀

What went wrong with it?
I bought one with my Talon SS and it was unable to complete a single fill before the pump broke. I followed the directions very carefully, that is my nature. I did five minutes of slow pumping and 10 minutes rest. It took almost 3 weeks to get it fixed by airforce. I wnded up with a tank and returned the pump.
I will buy a hill next.

I have abused the hell out of my HillPump almost the whole time I have had it. I realized this after applying some much needed silicone lube after I rebuilt it. I just thought it was THAT HARD to pump because of all the wusses on the net complaining about how much work it is to use a pump.
The HillPump practically pumped itself once I put the fresh lube on. I actually laughed out loud: so easy it felt like the pump was going to fly out of my hands.
Makes me wonder if everyone’s pump needs lube, or if they are just that out of shape.
How do they manage to sell some of those other pumps? 🙄

So True, I bought my Talon ss and pump right after Thanksgiving. I pumped the reservior only three times and much to my disappointment (read 👿 ), the pump tipped over (with the reservior attached) and sheared the brass fitting at the base. I was unable to get the piece out of the base and so back to the factory it went.

I’m with ya’ I have a post above. I only got three top offs on mine and the place I bought it from would not take it back. I sent it back A-Force about two weeks ago and still have not heard back or received the pump.
I bought a used scuba tank and wish I would have done that in the first place as I feel like I wasted $200 bucks 👿 .
On a side note…I’m new to PCP’s and went to the store to buy something else but I ended up liking the TalonSS..so hence I did not do any research on it and did not even know about this forum prior to my purchase.
