Q:

"New" project was a Condor SS…

So I figure I’ll put it in here…

So a while back, I had a Condor SS converted over to a .30. It had all the goodies- CF tank, TT tank adapter, a modified china clone FX cheek piece, WokGuard 15, WokButt, TJ .30 airgun barrel and a Clague LDC. Unfortunately though, all said and done it was a helluva long gun. Too long in fact.

I had completed a Tagdagger Microlite kit on a TalonP a couple of months ago and I LOVE it. Then my brain just clicked. So I started going over all the Microlite posts, and the youtube vids. After talking to Tagdagger a bunch, he sold me on a 20″ barrel. Then I started doing all the measuring.

Where I’m sitting right now is:

I’ve got a .2L bottle with M18-1.5 threads for the Condor valve. For those that might consider doing this that have a .30 conversion, the Condor’s top hat will go into a TalonP valve. Since my valve was worked over by Tony, I wanted to keep it.

I’ve got a stock that goes over the small tank and it’s adjustable! It also looks like a Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock:

I’m shortening the Condor frame to a custom length, so it’s not even going to be a Talon length frame.

I’m having a 1 piece barrel bushing made, that’s also an LDC mount.

My LDC will be a 1.5″ O.D. tube that’s 6.5″ long.

I’m going to re-use as much as I can from the original .30 build, for this microlite build. The CF tank is going on another build though, since I can’t use it with the Microlite kit. So I’ll have that WokGuard 15 on here too. I’ll keep y’all posted, and attach some pics when I can.

No real updates- still waiting on my parts. Not sure what to do at this point- The tuner won’t return my PM’s. I’m just looking for an update. I’m not in a rush because I have my .25 Tagdagger bullpup TalonP up an running (for a few months now), so those woodchucks haven’t been a problem! I’ve shot 3 this year already- 2 males and a female. The neighbor is complaining that there’s still woodchucks damaging her yard. I may have to do a stake-out!

TalonP tanks are on backorder… so I won’t be ordering one of those for a while. Yeesh. I’ll probably order a factory tophat for the condor valve I have, so I can send it off to Oldpro so he can try to work his “balanced valve” magic on it. Not sure if it’s possible- but if it is, a balanced valve in a Condor may prove just as, if not more destructive than a Texan. We’ll see.

Oh- and I just found out today that I should have somewhere around 215 cc’s of air in a TalonP tank. Which is around 35 cc’s of air less than a Evanix Rainstorm 2. A factory Rainstorm in 9mm is getting (supposedly) around 14 shots per fill w/a 250 cc reservoir. So I’ll probably be seeing around 7-10 shots maybe with this build… Eh. I can live with that. I’ll have to find a smaller “field tank” maybe a 60/4500 or a 90/4500… or something in between. Who knows?

Still waiting on my parts from the tuner… I may have to email him soon. I was hoping to have the gun together no later than the end of this month… Spring starts kinda early in Md… sometimes its end of March, sometimes its April. I’ve already seen a few groundhogs beebopping around my yard… LOL I’ll give him another week. If nothing, I’ll shoot him an email to check up on the build. I’m considering having some parts hydrodipped as well… Not sure on pattern just yet. I’ll probably just end up painting it, like usual… LOL I don’t want to wait or pay for the hydrodipping!

I need to get going on my projects. .300 Talon SS. Need to turn the barrel for the hammer and thread the end for the LDC. Just got my 1/2 x 28″ tap and die.

End of barrel should be single pointed. Only way to guarantee that the threads are true to the bore. I have die holders and still on some things the threads are not true to the material.

They are for chasing threads Doug, just like you are using them for. My best trick for threading barrels is flipping the cutter over and cutting away from the barrel. Yes you do indicate on the inside of the barrel.. You’d be wrong to do it off the inside a bore is probably not concentric to the O.D.

Maybe a silly question- but couldn’t I just indicate from the bore before starting to machine? Or is that still not accurate enough? I’m going to start machining stuff in a few months, so I have no idea how to set up at all… be kind…

Rrdstar , Is your Die Set on your barrel for O.D. or for I.D. set-up ?

one of each.

I have one of each as well. For some other projects… lol

I haven’t forgotten about this project! I’m still just waiting on my parts to come back. Again, I’m in no rush. As long as I get the parts back before spring, so that I can assemble and test it before all the Varmints come back around, I’m good! I’m really crossing my fingers that the LDC will work- or, the LDC guts, I should say. I sent the tuner an outer tube and radial cone end cap… I think it’s a bit over 6″ long. I hope it’s enough to quiet a .30!! As always, I’ll keep y’all posted! I’ll be sure to update once I get my parts in- I just wanted to touch base. I think I’ll paint this one in multicam… I seem to always come back to that camo pattern. I also (for some reason) enjoy painting that particular pattern…

Yeah, I thought about using my old strap too, but then remembered that since the tank is bigger, the strap won’t work…

Since the Condor’s top hat will fit in the TalonP valve, I’m just going to bite the bullet and get a new TalonP tank and swap out the top hat with the one I have in the Condor valve. It’s what I should have done from the get-go.

It’s fine, because I can send the Condor valve, with the factory TalonP valve stem in the new china tank to a forum member over on the GTA to see if he can make a balanced valve for the AF series of guns… If he can pull it off, we may very well see a new levels of power for the AF guns… But who knows? Better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.

Well… I FINALLY get my tank from china… and of course it is too big for the stock I was planning on using. Uuuugggghhhhhh :sadn: At least the Condor valve threads in fine.

Oh well. I’ll figure something else out. I’m still waiting on my parts anyway. It’s not like I’m in a rush.

I have my 2 liter tank and will have to make another strap to fit around my tank. The valve fits great, stays full, no leakage.

I received my Microlite kit yesterday, she looks gorgeous!! This time, the breech is a little different, as it has a brass section. Tagdagger even included a new valve spring for the .30 project!! I can’t wait to get this rifle together!!

Another Microlite kit ordered!! Now I’m just waiting on the frame modifications, new barrel bushing/LDC mount, the LDC guts, and my tank… This bullpup should be done in a month or so!! I can’t wait!
