RS, I think the hierarchy you speak of exists in all hobbies.

RC stuff ids the same, Toys R Us sells hundreds of millions of cheap ass RC cars and planes, foam flyers are a huge success at online retailers (lots of folks treasure them like Crosman prodcuts), it’s the ‘fringe’ folks you speak of that have the mini turbine systems, the handbuilt wood planes…

Actually I can’t think of a hobby that that hierarchy doesn’t apply towards.

Even shooting powder burners, the light weight, thin barreled, synthetic stocked, shit triggered Rem 700 is a perfect example of cheap crap that lots of people think is great. The fringe group has the action that costs $2k, the barrel that weighs more than an entire Rem 700, a trigger that costs as much as a Rem 700, etc, etc…

Shit how about hobby shotgunning sports. 😯

Many folks at the range and online don;t understand why folks reload. They even go so far to claim that PMC ammo will get better groups at distance out of their short barrel AR’s. This it’s better because it is cheap thing is world wide and simply part of human nature. In fact most companies that sell absolute quality typically don’t do well while companies that sell absolute shit do very well. Consumers have been programmed to buy crap.

Looking at the number of folks who have or are on the list for EdGuns (and that have Daystates, FX, and other high end rifles) the supply simply can’t keep up with the demand. If the supply was larger the number of folks with them would be larger. And as you pointed out lots of folks would never understand why the EdGun is so popular.

Fringe airguns are quickly becoming anything over $3k or the high end big bores.

There will always be a bunch of folks who think a $500 air rifle is as good as a $2500 air rifle. It’s how they justify buying what they think is expensive. Shit, tons of people think Bud, Coors and Miller is great beer. They like it and buy it because they think it is symbolic of their patriotism. Same folks will vote for a politician that outlawed guns and think they are supporting their 2A rights. Don’t you know “idiots rule”. 😉

Mark…
Those of us purchasing Edguns represent part of the absolute fringe of Airguning and yes, by far and large the vast majority of our fellow hobbiests are extremely cheap
look at the number of threads on the Yellow, even on this forum lamenting the delivered cost of an Edgun. A few years back you had folks knocking Daystate and FX, ect when the Marauder was coming out based purely on dollars
you really don’t see folks in other hobbies promoting junk as being somehow superior based solely on cost

Bullpups fading?Idoubt it.I`ve got a very accurate LWm-rod I`m using
for BR @Holbrook but when it comes to hunting the Edgun is so much
easier to carry and shoot.M-rod feels like a fencepost compared.
As far as airgunners being cheap 🙄 you got to be kidding.I`ve only
been at it a few years and don`t dare add up the total. 😯

Roberts444 you got’a love Oklahoma 🙂 at least rual Oklahoma. Bet you’ve had a few chicken dinners where you grew up. 🙂 And for the rest of you guys & girls out there not a single county in Oklahoma went for obama last time out… 😈

Go COWBOYS

Out of high school in ’03 hell you’re still wet behind the ears… 😆 I’m a class of ’64, two days older than dirt…. 😯 Good to see you young guys on here. Shooting is a life time thing that you never quite get the hang of but damn fun trying… 😎

quote 1OldGuy2:

I can remember when our high school principal would have us bring our shotguns into school and put them in our lockers so we would not have to leave our guns in our cars after an early morning duck hunt. Hell today we’d all be on the 6:00 news being carted off to jail never to see the light of day again. 😈

Old guy: I grew up southwest of Guthrie in Okarche. When hunting season hit, our shotguns would stay in our truck while we were at school. One morning I was in class after a morning of hunting and a smart ass kid said something to the teacher about me having a gun in my truck. The teacher put the punk in his place saying that he wasn’t worried about it. He said he knew what was going on when kids wore camo to class. Hunting was treated like a farmers son leaving school early around harvest time to help out, nothing was ever said. It was more of a don’t ask don’t tell kind if thing.

Oh BTW I graduated in 2003 so this wasn’t a long time ago.

😎 Hoot you and I may be out of the same litter. Hey Raven223 enough said here…. 🙄

quote Hoot:

Bullpups….it’s part of what keeps a fella out of jail.

Yep.

Guys….I routinely blow the living shit out of all creatures, large and small, in my secluded, gated, mountain home. I live in a nest of old fuckers who call the police every time they hear a squirrel turd drop from a tree. Our paper’s police report reads like a funny book!

Thusly, the Property Owners Association will tell you no BB guns or pellet guns can be discharged within the Village. Oh…but there’s no protective covenant against it, no law, regulation, or rules that even mention such weapons. They even posted a sign that prohibited concealed carry firearms in the Village. Again, nothing to back it up, except some idiot wants to have things done his way and not the legal way.

Fuck them all….up, down, sideways, leaners, doggie style, and in both ears!!! I don’t need their permission, nor do I intend to ask someone permission to do things on my own property.

I kill anything I want dead. I’m not stupid enough to buck these idiots because I learned a long time ago you can’t educate, or reason, with morons.

Therefore, out of sight, silent, short, deadly. Even morons can’t arrest someone they don’t know is there…much less doing what they personally think he hadn’t ‘otter!

It’s a cruel world. Fun is almost always fattening, sinful, or illegal…at least in someone’s eyes. So, why stir the fools? Do it anyway, just do it smarter.

Bullpups….it’s part of what keeps a fella out of jail.

Kindest regards,

Saintly ‘Ol Uncle H 😯 😯 T

Well Jetboy1 I can order beers, find the restroom and learn your name in spanish… 😳 I will check out these links though.
Thanks appreciate it 😀

The Oldguy

Do you shoot in Guthrie or do you go to the Arcadia rifle range? Just asking.

Riverside I’d like to here from our Russian urban hunting cousins also. I just do not know how the public in this country has turned antigun so fast.
I can remember when our high school principal would have us bring our shotguns into school and put them in our lockers so we would not have to leave our guns in our cars after an early morning duck hunt. Hell today we’d all be on the 6:00 news being carted off to jail never to see the light of day again. 😈

I used to shot pigeons on Sunday afternoons at the local grain elevator and the rail road tracks with the city fathers blessing. Not any more. Poison is the city way now of getting rid of the pigeons. Nobody want anybody to have any fun anymore 😥 . Now I just have to be very careful and shot once and move on. 😯 🙂 Thanks for bullpups. 😀

Old Guy:
I can recall over 30 years ago when a bunch of City Coppers rolled up on my Girlfriend who was shooting beer cans in the backyard with my Beeman C1 carbine!
Hell, we didn’t even live within the City limits!
yet some good citizen dailed 911 and whined GUN and the City PoPo rolled up with drawn guns!

Had a few incidents going to or coming from Gun Shows I was set up at
Cop pulls me over for some real or false traffic infraction, sees gun cases stacked like cordwood and goes apeshit stuck on stupid…always some NFG, {New Fucking Guy} read youngster and after demanding they get the duty supervisor on the scene I have been sent on my way usually with a half assed apology

I can just imagine the result if you were car hunting like a Rooski!
se3en a few vids of folks car hunting in Moscow…ask yourself what would happen if you were doing that in Washington DC, heck even posted vids of doing it in DC…probably end up in GitMo
totally different mindset in the Russian Republics compared to the West
Heck the majority of western Airgunners would likely call the police if they saw someone capping birds from their car window parked on a side street or alley in town, muchless an urban area 🙄

for me this is part of the intrigue and mystique of the Russian bullpups
they are highly specialized weapons initially intended to cater to not just a niche market but a market that even in the Russias is pretty far out there on the edge of the edge

not sure what the Russian urban hunting laws are but whatever they are it seems they are not something their law enforcers go totally insane about enforcing. I would love to hear some feedback on this from our fellow Edgunners in the Russias 😉

I’m sure someone was thinking “How long will this airgun thing last…?” at one point in time.

I’d bet TGAG gets a break on the base rifles. 😉

Yupp, – even here, – where the guys in blue are not armed, you’ll face a rough time if you start waving around your bullpup inside a car in a densly populated area….. 😉

That said, – both Ed and Maverick have designed guns with some features that would make them competitive to any other airgun in the market….

1. Both guns come with a regulator and show off shotstrings difficult to match by most. Even the best of Daystates can’t compete……

2. Accuracy is superb in both guns out to 70 mts (my experience). Our friend Kazzz has proved EDgun’s ability to compete in serious events out to 100 mts. And that’s when competing with some serious other rifle brands….

3. Air efficiency. Ed has taken this to another level with his R3 Matadors. I’ve yet to see ANY airrifle even close to it……

Maverick has already put his Cricket into another stock and made a more traditional sporting rifle out of it (which I think in the long run may be a good idea for the western markets). ED may do the same……..

In my view the passion about what he’s doing may keep ED on top of competition for many years, – be it with bullpups or other guns. So far (unlike Gamo and friends), – he has neither gone for mass production nor purely “one-offs”. He is somewhere in between, – while still maintaining his exclusivity….

Seen form a marketing perspective: Extremely well done…… 😉

And for those of us who still may shoot out of a car window, – the bullpup is a better design….. 😉

Cheers 😀

Right on Riverside. You and Zololoco were boyh right on this bullpup fever. Time will tell.

You really hit the nail on the head about the police. Our local small town SWAT team members who just started shaving last week would get off to move in on us guys who like shooting pigeons out the car window. I thought that’s what these PCP bullpup were ALL about…. 😀

$900…. eh….

I have two Hammerli Bullpups currently and here is the breakdown of each. I’ve posted pics before on both.

First of all, the Pnuema itself.

I have one of the single shot versions and one multi shot.

Not much of a power curve to them and they tend to run pretty hot. One can close off some of the ports on the valve to increase shot count and still get good power out of them.

Accuracy…. the multi shot version are known to have accuracy issues and mine does as well. Accuracy is mediocre at best. My single shot version is quite accurate out to 40 yards, but I’ve not tried beyond that.

The gun does have a gritty feel to it, but can be worked over a bit.

Now for the conversions.

I have one that I used a Steyr AUG Airsoft stock to do. Stock cost me $40 used off Ebay. I used junk parts to hack it all together, including the trigger linkage. The plastic of the airsoft stock feels a bit cheapish, but I know I could fill in with wood inside the stock to give a bit better ‘feel’ to the whole setup. My home made linkage is adequate and works fine.

The other kit I got from Pekator. Cost about $500 for this one shipped from Poland. Looks and feels much better than my home made kit, but the linkage isnt quite as good. I need to do some work on it. There are/were some minor issues with the kit, but all in all, not too bad.

So total cost…?

The single shot version costs $250. Add $500 for a Pekator kit and you are looking at $750 for a single shot bullpup. Add a little work on your own to clean up everything and you have a nice shooter.

or…. find a used airsoft stock and do the work on your own for a total cost of around $450
