R3 .25 Matador – "out of box" accuracy at 100 yard
This what I was able to achieve while sighting in my scope.
The point of impact keeps shifting because I was adjusting the turrets. I started on the left upper target and got the group in the middle of the two, left targets. Then I went to the right upper; then the right lower; then the left upper; then the left lower.
All groups are 1.1″ to 1.5″ (28-38mm) CTC. Pellets were JSB King 6.35mm (unsorted). The scope – Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tac 8.5-25x (shot at 25x). There is much to discuss when comparing my
R2.5 to this R3. I’ll get into that in the video.

thank you… 🙂 X2
All very true, – but NOT very nice if you find yourself facing a bunch of crows, magpies etc. There are times when speed is crucial….. 😉
Not that I have experienced it of course………! :6:
I wonder if Ted got the .25 with the new barrel Ed designed…
Ed?
thank you… 🙂 X2
20 fpe or 20 fps?

Mike, I don’t want to steal Ted’s topic but; the 25s use the same hammer spring. The 25s use a shorter HST screw that gives the hammer spring more tension.
Ed can’t keep up with the current demand! I am absolutely certain that he has updates and new stuff planned for the future.
Get on the list! You will be “over the moon” like the Brits say with your Matador and you can always sell it (FOR AT LEAST) what you gave for it when Ed announces a newer, stronger, better Matador!
I don’t really understand the fascination with semi auto and magazines. If you take the time to learn the Matador, set the scope up correctly and use a rangefinder to get accurate yardage, you won’t need a quick follow up shot.
Oldgoat you’re another one that I follow with great respect for the great wealth of knowledge you have and willing to share with others. I am looking with great interest to you recieving your .25 std knowing you will share your comparisons. As you read above, I’m interested in the .25 but undetermind as to which std or loooong. Hearing through the grape vine that a semi is in the near future is icing on the cake, But we have heard this before so I don’t hold my breath. It is without question that Ed will provide us with a semi and I’m sure it will be one to behold! Just matter of time.
Question? The valve/reg being the same does the .25 have a heavier hammer /spring than its little brother?

Mike, I recently got a complete air valve/regulator assembly from Tony. Tony told me that he got it with the spare parts Ed shipped him when he first started importing Edguns.
The approximately 4 year old assembly is a direct match with my R3 22 long that I got in May this year. The assemblies are directly interchangeable across all of the R2.5 and R3 Matadors except, Ed puts a small shim in the air valve rod return spring cup to give the air valve spring a little more tension on the R2.5 and R3 25 longs and Ed sets the 25 cal long’s regs at 155 bar and the 22s at 130. Discounting the extra air valve rod return spring spacer and the reg’s settings, nothing has changed.
I don’t know if the R3 25 cal standard has the spacer, I haven’t gotten mine yet! 😥
Ted, as to fill pressure, I think most do fill to 200 bar but Ed himself told me that he fills to 220. I have not noticed my R3 .22 std being finicky upon filling to 220 bar, it does drop upon cooling. I get 70 shots with an ES of 12. I can not comment in respect to the .25 R3’s – don’t even know if the same reg/valve is used. I do look forward to your assessments and comparisions in regards to the .25. I am on the fence as to purchasing the R3 .25 long and will possible what until it’s offered in semi in the near future. Oh bring it on ED! Ted, Glad to see you posting again.
60+ shots (depending on setting) – 20fpe spread.
The regulator seems more efficient and less “touchy” than with my R2.5 *. What I mean by that is it seems to be less affected by starting fill pressure. If I overfilled my R2.5 by 10 or 20 bar, the shot string got a little wonky. But, when I overfilled the R3 by 10-20 bar, the string was just as good as if I had filled it to 200.
*I recognize that there are recommended fill pressures, and that 200 bar is the official limit. However, when you take a gun from 72F(inside) to 100F (outside), air is going to expand and your pressure is going to jump. This is why my starting pressure was above manufacturer recommendations.
What is the shot count like on your new r3? And is it very consistent from shot to shot?
Every Matador is different.. When you stick within the same size and cal it’s still doable to shoot right away good groups.
But when you’re used to shoot a .22 standard and you take a long or short, it’s already different.
You’ve gone from a stand .22 cal to a long .25 cal, so.. it’s perfectly normal you don’t shoot the same groups.. YET!
When you see those groups now, they can only become better! My new .22 shot better groups out of the box, but now after 500/600 pellets groups starting to open up.
I have 2 possibilities: I need to clean the barrel or it was due to the warm weather. Got a report from a friend that his groups opened up also.
So, maybe nice to keep track of the amount of pellets you’ve already shot..!

Knowing you, – you’ll come out with smth……. 😉
😀

I could have sworn you did sell the 2.5, some thing about the little ones college fund..in one of your vids.
I didn’t get no coffee cup or t-shirt… 😆 😆
A in san diego…
Oh – ther is NO doubt my skill and knowledge of the gun played its part. I was averaging .5″ groups (at 50 yards) and 2″ groups (at 100 yards) with my .22 R2.5 when I first got it. By comparison, I am doing much better with the .25 R3.

It also has to do with preference. Would I prefer an Edgun with magazine or a single shot, oh yes. Am I going to sell my Edgun anytime soon – not likely!
