R5 dangerous failure
R5 probably has a construction defect that can be seriously dangerous. Ed, where is the armored endurance you were talking about? where is the instruction with which force to tighten the bolt? it looks like a nasty joke made to us, faithful fans of your brand!

The fact that you are here and there responding to the ridicule some are slinging your way says volumes to me about you and your character. I know it comes with the territory but I don’t know of any other owner that would directly answer question or complaints like you are. I can see some are just going to take the opportunity to hate and that seems to be their only motive.
Thank you for the support and the funny thing is that I just couple of days ago discussed the question of “haters” at edgun forum. I told to my Russian subscribers that I have the oppotunity to compare the atmosphere of the Russian speaking forums and the English speaking forums and, unlucky that comparison is not in favour of Russians. We have a proverb in Russia “It is not bad that my cow died, bad is that my neighbors’ cow is alive”. It means that people are focues not on their own success but, in contrarty they focues on the somebody’s fault. Plus we had the negative selection of the humans material for over 70 year of the Soviet Era, when they killed almost everybody who was out of the range, too smart, too independent etc. And to my oppinion that crime of bolshevizm is equal of the crime of Nazims, but we didn’t have our own Nurnberg 🙁
That is why the most haters are fromr the former Soviet Republicks or the former Soviet block counries, as they were damaged in the menatlity as well. I mean East Europe.
The other thing is — my personal presense. I don’t want to tell about all, but in most cases in looks like, for example, there is some John Doe, whos wife forgets his name already, grey days, work he hates, and Internet, where he can be anybody, sly, ironic, smart, expect, whatever. And imagine he is interested in airgun. Will he write to Frederick, the owner of FX? Noway, as he know that Frederick will not even read it 🙂 But here is Ed, he is, he is answering, he is talking, he is reacting. Many in the airgun world knows him and if I, John Doe, will hit him, most likely he will anwer and that will put me at the same level to him, as he is talking with me as with the equal 🙂
Don’t think that I got the star fever, no way, I just know the psychology and I live amont them for 50 years already 🙂 I bet if tomorrow I will went out of the business and give it to any manager, who will behave the standard manner, all the haters will immiditately lose interest to the EDgun brand, as it will become just one among the others 🙂 Nobody, personal, is behind it…

The every word has his own meaning and since English is not my native language I may not to know all the hidden senses of word “explode”. But based on the dictionary I think you mean something this?
But you expectations goes far forward of the reallity 🙂
First of all there is not high pressure involved the process.
Second even if you loose the screw completely or remove it by indends the most dangerous thing you will have — brocken details, which shold be replaced.
Third — take the other brand, which you trust to and live happy.

Well, I think nobody has problem to replace a wheel in the car and fix it with the nuts without the special rench. That is something like that. As for the problem wich can arrise, if, both me and all dealers are ready to solve them and nobody will be left along. Like it was with R3 in .30, with the 2 mm valve stem, when I found out that it was my mistake and 2 mm stem is too weak for that energy I replaced for those who wanted it for 3 mm valve stem with the back plug assembled.
Ed, say with a hand on your heart if all the guns came out of the factory well-tightened? there is no problem?
Again, tell us, is this block really built as solidly as possible? I think that you will give a lot of work to dealers, repair defective ones, unpack the returns.
It’ll be hard to give an exact in/lb value ….. all guns will vary.
It depends on a lot of things like if the contact points are lube or dry and if it’s a new or old threading.
I’d start by measuring the width of the assembly when it’s on the gun and wright it down.
Removing the assembly and use a digital caliper across it’s spand.
Use a torque wrench on the bolt and tighten until the gauge starts to indicate movement/closing to the width measured assembled.
This will be the starting point at which you need to add about 14-18 in/lbs more to that valve.
If you dry or lube any of the contact points you need to redo this calculation above, even if you lube or dry the shoulder of the head of this bolt.
I’d consterd Blue Loctite as lubed and reduce the amount added to the total to +14 in/lbs.
Don’t own a R5 just some guns, or don’t know exactly what caused the above to happen.
But if it happen from tightening every owner will be complaining of this occurring.
Just a few complaints well go figure …….. loosey or not tightened at all ?

There is no problem, I mean the problem which can be even potentially dangerous for the user. In fact I consider the cleints as normal man, who is able to right the screw, there is nothing difficult. On the other hand I can say the momet of the force, many of you have the special tool to follow that insctructions? So, anyhow, either to make it yourslef, or go to the dealer.
As usually the problem pop up more then it is really is, and most interesting by those who has no idea how it works, but ready to get into panic 🙂
