Raptor On Order….
I am on the waiting list for the next shipment of Raptors (Omega is identical but different label). After much research I was surprised by the numbers that have been purchased or ordered since early last year (near 50). 😯 In the last few days I have pinged a few folks that have anywhere from 80-120 hours on them and they have been performing admirably. The main issues been shipping or weather (freezing in the warehouse before antifreeze was added) related on several. I will probably run it for a month or so before I consider selling the original Shoebox I have. The Shoebox has performed very well for about 2.5 years and I only replaced the orings once. 😉
The actual speed folks are reporting has been more like 3-4x an F8 but not near a small Bauer or Airtex where the models are near 10x faster. About 45 minutes to top off a 88 cu ft tank from 3000 to 4500 for the Raptor and 25 minutes for my 44 cu ft SCBA tanks which take about 3 hours with the original Shoebox. I also researched used Bauer’s and Airtex (also Chinese) but they start around the $2500 mark if available and most I found were pretty heavily used for paintball and had other issues.

The Chinese factory that makes the compressor that is being imported into the U.S. by Raptor Pneumatics also makes several other similar models. One uses the same mechanical components but instead of housing it in a computer style case it is just enclosed in a tubular frame. The other model looks identical to the Raptor\Omega but uses a digital pressure setting gauge instead of the analog mechanical gauge of the Raptor\Omega. PAG and AofA are selling the model imported by Raptor Pneumatics. Raptor probably just has exclusive rights to selling the model they are importing with the changes they specified for that model. So the clone is most likely the original model from the same Chinese factory without the changes which Raptor Pneumatics is having them make to their specs. Since the unmodified compressor sells for $500 plus shipping in lots of 20 or more, it is likely that someone else will import them to put some competition into the marketplace. Time will tell.
anybody care to fill me in on this? i like the baur pumps for speed and the shoebox is resonably priced but i dont want the 1700 dollar price tag for the omega and somebody said there would be a cloned version of the omega/raptor coming out sooner or later?

a buddy of mine wants a shoebox but the redic fill times are shying me from saying for sure get a shoebox because he has a scuba tank he wants to fill and its rather large and a shoebox will take forever to do so
Yes and it has a backup/Secondary if for some reason the first shutoff didn’t work. Its a simple relay/contact system so it should be reliable.
The radiator, coolant, and strong fan system really seem to do the job and blow some heat away from the unit. I was speaking to Jim at PAG and others about the moisture separator and it can discharge a little moisture from time to time out a port (it scared the crap out of me the first time it did it). It doesn’t store it but rather vaporizes it as it is expelled from what I was told.

Today I topped off one of my 44 cu ft SCBA tanks and then filled a buddy’s P-Rod directly from the compressor. Pretty cool. I need to time it the next time but it ran about 25 minutes going from around 3000 up to 4400 psi. Worked like a champ.

With lubes and coolant on board I figured it would start on tile. 😉 It’s sure makes it nice to be all-in-one. I am talking my wife into letting me put it in the utility room. :biggrinn: My big bro wanted to hear it sing. :whistle:

After passing notes with Alvero (he has a lot of hours on his shops Raptor) I adjusted the needles (there is a primary and a secondary). This compressor is really plug n’ play compared to a Shoebox. Plug it in and go. The only maintenance is a 1/4″ string of grease for the piston assemblies every 20 hours and there is a spot on top to put that in and make sure there is coolant. It’s nice to have an hour meter. We will see how she goes but it is very nice so far.
It runs great! I tested it just by filling the air line partially and it zips it right up. It shows about 2.5 hours total run time on the hour meter so they must have given it a thorough test. The coolant was already topped off and everything seems ship shape. The only I thing I need to do at this point is to reduce the max pressure to 4500. For some reason it is set right at 4800 I think which is the burst disc pressure. I will give PAG a call in the morning for better instructions than the manual before attempting anything. :8:

PAG was closed and AOA won’t answer the phone so I went to the Mexican airgun dealer (Alvero). 😆 😆 😆

The Raptor/Omega has landed. 😀 I unboxed it and will get it going hopefully later tonight if not tomorrow. It appears so far that shipping didn’t cause any problems like the cooling fluid to leak. Off to read the manual a few times. It needs some purified water added to the coolant before running. Did I mention it was really heavy? 😯

I can Assure you that there will NOT be a clone of the raptor coming.
I don’t have a lot of details on Raptor or there contracts with the manufacture. But i do know that they have put a lot of time and effort into the compressor to make it what it is.
and they want to make it succeed, through good customer service and a quality product. There have been quite a few updates to the machine even after it was released.
if someone was to try and clone or import to the US They will more than likely run into some legal issues.
