Q:

Ready For a Compressor

I really need a compressor since buying a 30 caliber air guzzler. Any compressor recommendations would be appreciated. $1500 is what I would like to spend but would be willing to go $1800 – $2000(max) for a good setup.

My breaker box has two 20 amp breakers not being used that can be used for a compressor.

After much deliberation I decided I wanted the flexibility of having 110v, the portability that I can take it with me, the increased speed over the f8 and the simpler setup vs the f8 at ~$1800 cost. Considered the F8 and a used bauer but eventually after speaking to AOA, Jim @ Precision and others I had my fears put to rest on the reliability and serviceability of the Omega SC. Just to be sure I bought it with a CC that auto extends the manufacturer warranty by 1 year.

Just received my Omega Super Charger from Jim @ Precision Air Guns today. I was expect the Super Charger to have a good number of hours on it already from testing, but mine came with only 1hr20m on it and it was manufactured on 2015-09-30. It took approx 1hr to fill my Tiger Shark from 2800psi to 4500psi.

Other first impressions:
* The Omega is slightly louder than I expected
* I had to really tighten the supply line to my airgun. At 3500 psi it began to leak.
* The manual is much more robust than I expected
* It is hard to tell if the lube screw backed out during shipping..
* I *love* having my own air.

yup, basically top it off with water, set it and forget it pretty much…………. with no dramas !

Tips:
On occasions I remove the bleed off screw and lube the tip with silicone lube.
The lube screw is suppose to be out, it’s fill with lube just make sure to give it 2 full turns every 4 hours.

Its so dry where I am at in the summer you see Mosquitos carrying around cantantes full of water,
Mike

Seems like you have all of the bases covered. The worst I have seen are the hand pumps w/o dyers. The produce some real wet compressed air. I had my .22 standard Cricket air tube open a while back after maybe 10,000 shots and it was dry as a bone from the Omega SC with just an input dryer in two years. The output dryer should still help. Although we run a dehumidifier in the basement and always air conditioned air it can get humid here in the summer.

With driers attached to the Hi and Lo pressure side of my Omega SC.

I pick up one of these room dehumidifier about 4 mounts ago to bring the humidity down to 30%.
Don’t have any data but I’m thinking it’s helping with getting good consistent accuracy ….. the direr the better.

I have been using some air lately…. 😯

Nice Coda,

I’m still using my Diablo ADS till I could find a replacement in till then ………

Just picked up a very nice HP output dryer for my Omega SC from Dman1114. It is heavy duty. I was only using an input dryer from Princeton Auto now. This thing is well built and the filter cartridges are standard replaceable and identified on the label.

If any of you guys want the contact info for a used Omega SC 4500 psi send me a PM. Seller wants $1500 plus half the shipping. I am sure he is flexible on the price. He states its in like new condition and never had an issue. It is 13 months old and has 36 hours of use.

I am most likely going with the Shoebox F8 setup.

Go for Omega Compressor. ..if you are out of the USA…you can directly buy it from the Company

hemn you have the company contact email ?

I too am in the market for a compressor and have been waffling between a Freedom8 w/alpha (moisture) filter (~$1500) or an Omega SC (~$1800).

I know the Omega SC has an auto-bleed system. Is a moisture filter really needed if you make the auto-bleed more frequent and for slightly longer? How many of you out there with Omega’s have moisture filters (and which do you have)?

I have been really considering the Omega and reading reviews. Having 12 guns now and a Huben on the way it is getting very expensive and time consuming with the 35m round trip to get my tank filled so will hopefully be ordering the Omega this week or next.

Cliff (VarmintAir) has two 88 Air Hog tank kits who likes them and an Omega SC. He is pretty well known for air gun varmint hunting in some circles. He also bought his Omega SC at PAG like I did. There are some great varmint shooting videos on his site. Just ground squirrels with the Marauder pistol is impressive. He buys a ton of air gun stuff. Take a look at his collection, research, and stories.

Several dealers were hoping it would fail early on like the old FX compressor that push much more profitable higher-end compressors. This one has really taken off instead and is much better supported than the FX was. There have been several part upgrades along the way on the water pump system, etc. Motors are being rewound in the US among other changes after import before they are sold to meet standards here. There are videos on the replacing the orings and basic parts. The pump is a little tricky but not worse than working on these Air guns if you watch the video. Parts are readily available. Try working on your Bauer JR II pump and don’t tell me they never need fixing – lol. I don’t know anyone with an Airtex. Normally, they send them off. Don’t try to use Bauer JR II’s as commercial compressors as my paint ball buddy did.

I just spoke to AOA maybe two weeks ago who provides support to a lot of them and actual pump or motor failures have been very low given the numbers now sold. I am sure there are a few horror stories out there on any of them. It is not a commercial unit by a long stretch and wasn’t meant to be which cost thousands of dollars more new. Orings are still considered normal maintenance but in two years of use I have not touched them. Don’t over lube it is the biggest warning I can give and only use their recommended grease. Lubricant was ending up all over the unit as many folks initially were lubing the heck out of them. If you see a dark lube showing up in the pressure release valve it is being way over lubed. Two turns on the lube adjuster every four hours is all it needs.

Realistically, I run it about twice a month now for an hour each to top off one of my two tanks. That is about 20 fills a month’s worth and say an average of 60 shots for me unless you are shooting a 30 cal or higher so 1200 shots a month or 14,400 shots a year? I waste some air testing and do use shoot my 30 cal and have run it now less than 20 hours a year. Mine arrived with 3 hours on it from testing. It is now at 37 hours. I probably won’t reach 100 hours if I still have it in five years. (I hardly keep anything for five years so don’t try to sell me on a commercial one that will last a life time 😆 ) As I said I needed something that was 120V and portable – all inclusive. For a home user like me Total Cost of Ownership in my case has been a fraction of a Bauer JR II and I can’t use the capacity I have now.

Looks like a UK distributor for Europe.

I put a WTB up and received some compressor offers. One seller has a 3 stage gas compressor that sounded interesting but its max fill is 3200 psi. It came off a military flame thrower, the seller states he has sold a few the last couple of years with no reliability/moisture/water issues as long as the vaulve is bled after every tank fill. Fills a 88 cu ft tank from empty to 3200 psi in 30 min.

Another offer was a Omega SC 4500 psi with 36 hrs. Owner states no problems and is selling because he is moving overseas. He is a little high in price but I didnt negotiate. The Omega SC has gotten some bad reviews on AG forums and you-tube reviews that made me nervous investing in an Omega SC. Seeing a few TAG members post positive for the Omega makes me a lot less cautious about them.

Thanks for the replies. I will update this thread before making a decision.
