Recomendation for a pellet rifle for a 9 year old?
The wife tells me, we should get him (my oldest son) a better bb gun for christmas, god i love her. 😀
So he currently has a red ryder style bb gun, is very responsible about gun handling safety, is getting frustrated with it’s accuracy, and can’t shoot my guns due to LOP. I would like to find him a pellet rifle that he can operate on his own, fits him, will deliver satisfactory accuracy(for him), and is scope compatible, cause he wants one bad. He loves my crossman 180, but i don’t like him packing around a fifty year old gun that’s in mint condition, and C02 is a pain for him to change cartridges, as well as exspensive for how much action i’m sure this gun will see. Any ideas?

Don’t know why he’s bitching about the accuracy of his Red Ryder though… when I was nine my Red Ryder would demolish anything within a mile. 😉
Then my grandpa let me shoot his Benjamin 312. Ohhhhhh…. boy. Now I was killing things five miles away. 😆
I still have them both to this day. The Red Ryder works fine, but the 312 needs a seal rebuild one of these days.
A pumper is the only way to go for a nine-year old. He can mow lawns for a PCP when he’s 12.
I’d say the Crosman 760 series is the way to go. Last time I was at the Crosman website, they had a delux version with a rifled barrel, that’s the one to get. I had a 761XL as a kid and I still look for one on the classifieds! That gun was accurate even shooting BBs.

I picked up a Crosman Raven for my guys to try out. Neat little gun. Feels solid in my hands. Still a bit too big and heavy for the 7 yo, the older ones (9 and 10×2) faired much better. Especially the second time we took it out :D. First time was a steep learning curve with the weight, the trigger and break barrel. I’ve seen where one of the replacement triggers is listed as fitting it (AoA maybe). Stock trigger is heavy and plastic and will def take getting used to. My guys were yanking the gun a foot off target (at 10y) just trying to pull the trigger. I was barely hitting 2 inch groups but think it would be better if the trigger were not junk.
I agree. If you don’t want to go co2 then a Crosman pump gun will be a great choice. Do they still make the 760? I had a Crosman 760 when I was 9 and I put the hurt to the local bird population. It shot both BBs and .177 pellets. I still have it, 30 years later, but it does not hold air any more.

Like Blue said, a Crosman. I shot a 760 when I was that age. I still shoot it, they last for ever if you do your part.
Or you could go with their 2100 its more powerful, if that matters.
