Regulator Volume

I was wondering if you gave the EtacReg a little more air volume how much would it change the fps. I came up an idea to add a little chamber on top of the Etac. I will machine a hole on the top and weld on this little block that I machined to match the Etac and the back of the gun. I will post some pic’s as soon as photobucket is back online.

1018. The wall thickness is .120 and just what maw said. When I was asking my friend about welding and pressure, I was looking into cutting the Etac in half and welding it back together. I was going to angle it more so the larger tanks would fit better.

I do, shot count, and speed isn’t that the nature of the beast to get something that works better, I think your right on. You could probably use epoxy and it wouldn’t come off.

What grade steel is that, 12L14 I presume? What grade steel is the ETaC? What is the wall thickness of your chamber after that groove has been cut?

I’m sure Jim is staying the hell away from this one but did you ask him of the influence drilling & weld heat may have on ETaC? You do realize that pressure vessels have to pass testing at pressures at least 150% of work rating right (3750psi)?

The consequences of a bad weld on a hydraulic cylinder (mess on the floor) vs. pneumatic (explosion: in yo’ face) ought to have you thinking this through a bit more. The fact that you are wildly changing your design and asking your buddies for advice leads me to believe you’re guessing.

The only advice I’ll give is get it hydro tested before putting your face to it. This shouldn’t be hard to rig up since you have a friend that works with hydraulics. However, I don’t see the logic of using a regulator if you are on the quest for FPS anyway.

Well I came up with away to get a lot more volume and there is no way it can come off once I weld it. I will try and finish it tomorrow. I will be doing this to my 2000 psi reg to see if there is a difference.

I know it sounds like a lot of pressure but it’s not. Pounds per square inch. That little piece is like 1/2 square inch. I’m putting it on the 2500 reg so it would only be 1250 psi if that. Yes it will be tig welded. I wouldn’t even think of mig. I have a Miller 350 LX tig. My friend makes Hydrolic tube benders and makes everything except for the pump and motor. I use to help him when I wasn’t working weld the hydrolic cylinder end caps on. I ask him about cutting and welding the Etac back together a while ago. He said not a problem because those cylinders you welded see 10,000 psi and you are dealing with something that is less than a square inch. That is as much volume Jim can give it.

If you want more volume out of the E-TaC, why don’t you ask Mr. Jim to cut 1 longer?

Why not put it on the bottom side of the E-TaC?
-OR- One on top and one on bottom ❓ ❓

if u can get someone to tig weld it on there it should hole up but with just thar little bit of space i dont think it will do that much for u also if u drill a hole in the e-tac it needs to be angled in there to send the air straight into the valve

How much does that piece of metal weigh?

You can calculate the FPE of that thing before it blows your eyepeice off the scope.

The volume idea might be ok, but the execution is very questionable.

When I had my breech split, it nearly scared me off of the AF rifle until I realized it was my tinkering that caused the malfunction.

You know, drilling a second hole in it to mount a home-made bolt to the breech. That sort of thing.

And right in your face.

Hope your welding is good. Gonna be holding back a lot of psi.
