Ring Gauge – Pellet sorting
Hey guys, what do you think? I think this is what rossall was talking about, but not sure. Can this be an affordable/accesible/effective way to sort pellets? We can get it machined for any caliber…lets say a .22. Have holes that are made 5.49, 5.50, 5.51, 5.52, 5.53, 5.54, and we drop in the pellets and sort out the bullshit? Even if its not perfect it’s better then blindly shoving whatever pellet comes in our hands down the barrel. Also a hell of a lot faster then a caliper. Calling all you experts….please give me your thoughts.

The fear for dieseling is for those faint at heart. Go on and test it! :4:
Steele , your really into those chicken mc nuggets.
I believe you will utilize this to a greater level with your pellets. 🙂
NEVER shoot a chicken McNugget through an airgun!!!! Too much danger of dieseling.

I’ve done done that kind of sorting with my chicken nuggets. It’s fun and rewarding. I’m always happy when my nuggets fit just right into my BBQ sauce packet from McDonalds.
do you think that the barrel of my R3M .22cal is different from you? i believe not, i believe Eduard has used one type of LW barrel for all R3Ms, don’t you think?
so, if yes, what head size is perfect with point of your view?
thanks for help…
since i don’t have access like US, Eu or you guys for buying items comfortably, so i have to reach the correct size before buying any pellets…. of course i mean JSB 18.13gr, no other brands & other weights ,,,,,,
There´s no two guns, being it from the same maker and all, that has the exact same barrel. This is very evident in rimfire world, especially. My gun likes a certain ammo but the next guy, with the exact same gun , spreads like a shotgun with that same ammo. It´s not just black/white, that issue.
Have your guys seen the pellet rolling, works great , and its allot faster than measuring, which is not very effective on pellets with very thin skirts.
do a search for yrrah ‘s pellet sorting .
dont know if you have ever noticed but, on guns that will shoot JSB for instance ,with what we sometimes call flyers, out of a group ,or if you watch a group being shot you will have 2 or 3 distinct small groups being formed if you kept shooting,
What i have found in my shooting is , i noticed this with JSB pellets being these are the most Constant pellets for the most part, i will get lets say a 3/8″ group at 50 yards and three out of five are in one hole and the other two open up the group to 3/8″ or 1/2″ , but if you kept shooting your would have three distinct groups.
Any way with rolling JSB pellets i end up with three piles of pellets , 💡
Now when shooting groups i get allot more of those 1/4″ groups. and the gun generally likes to shoot one or the other piles better than the other, or at least it will shoot each pile to a slightly different location due to the slight difference in size.
I get three piles for jsb for the most part with an occasional crazy pellet as compared to 6 or 7 piles with crossman Hollow points as a comparison.
Also if a pellet is out of round or needs to be discarded to the plinking pile it is very obvious .
good luck
Okay brother W NZ;

Believe me when I say you do not want to resize your pellets.. It will make no difference at all. I really wish I videoed my tests now..
You need to find the correct head size for your bore not resize one to the head size it prefers because it still wont shoot.
I invested in one of those 5.50mm sizers back when I found my R3 liked that head diameter and all I could get was 5.52 and 5.53mm pellets.
Right from the tin at 930fps every one of these pellets spiralled like a corkscrew at trailed 850- 930fps.
After sizing them to 5.50mm there was absolutely no change. They were still unstable.
When I found a tin of 5.50mm all was well again and there was no more spiralling pellets.
Why? Im not sure but Its got to have something to do with the amount of lead that contacts the rifling, by sizing the pellet it takes of the sharp contact points and makes wider flat surfaces which seems to make it worse not better. You definitely dont want to size your skirts to 5.50mm too.. there is absolutely no accuracy benefit in doing that.
guys;
what about this one i posted in July?

Well put! Here’s all kinds of weird foreigners littered all over the place. We call them : The Americans.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2. This POS iPhone sucks though …
Why would i ever want any replies to anyones PMS ??? You Kiwi´s are just weird …
Well I expected that response as I wrote that post.. But not from you Sir..
Yes us kiwis are amoung the weirdist.. I think its because we are stranded on this a srange little remote island with no one else to talk to except for a few deranged foreigners on this forum.. 😯
That’s out of context sir. I feel like Bill Clinton. I have stained a blue dress or two myself I might add…but that’s a story for another day.

Wingman, would you mind sharing some info on .25 cal and .30 cal pellets? What size ranges you have experienced in JSB tins. I’m thinking 1 ring gauge with .22, .25, and .30 cal all-in-one. One 4 inch disc can have all three.

no… every barrel is different regardless of make and batch.
The info I have given you all can shave 1/2 an inch off your groups at 100 yards.. not everyone will have the access to the tools and pellets to achieve this.. for those guys.. just shoot your pellets right out of the tin and enjoy your shooting for what it is.. whats wrong with an inch group at 50 yards if you are only a plinker or shoot the odd pest?..
Dont stress over the odd flyer.. it is all part of the fun and frustration that is air gunning. at least now you know what causes it.
