Q:

Rotary milling.

Can it be done with some kind of special attatchment that’s fitted to the table of a bog-standard two-way-feed mill? I’m talking of a job like cutting a circular depression into a flat piece of work and then cutting a lip under the internal edge of the circle (for example).

get a boring head $59 and grind a special tool to cut your profile.
boring head has adjustable diameter.

Your bolt it to your table in the horizontal or vertical position. There is a ton of stuff you can do with it so its a good thing to have one, even a cheap one.

Ah, a rotary table sounds like the thing, if that’s something that can be attatched to a regular table?

Oh bollocks, it won’t show the picture properly.

You might even be able to pull it off with just the boring head if you had the right bit go chuck into it. You would have to take super shallow cuts though.

A circular depression can be done with an adjustable boring head or a rotary table. The lip your talking about, if I get your jist, you would need a rotary table and a cutter like you would use to make T slots.
