Scope?
Ok I have a BSA 4×32 scope on my talon, and I’m wondering if that’s enough power for my gun? I’m shooting at around 50-60 yds. But should I get a more powerful scope? ❓ Any thoughts on this would be great.

Okay, for $100, I’d recommend staying with the fixed 4x. You can shoot very small groups with 4x, you just need to adjust your target size so you can be repeatable in POA from shot to shot.
For $100, the Nikon Prostaff will serve you very well. Get the 4×32 Rimfire model that has a fixed parallax at 50 yards. The 4 power is low enough to allow for clear shots as close as 25 yards (maybe closer). The fixed power at that price point will be a tougher optic, with less lenses and bells and whistles to break.
The Nikon glass will smoke that BSA your using. You’ll be able to get most of your money out of it when you decide to upgrade or you can transfer it over to a rimfire or slug gun.

I agree with Roachcreek about over powering the scope, particularly for pest hunting. I’ve got a Leapers 6×32 Bugbuster that does just fine on my TTT. I also have a variable 4-16×44 which is nice for long shooting but is a bit much for hunting at less than 50 yards IMHO. I’m gonna put a 3-12×40 on my new TalonP which ought to be a decent compromise for weight and power. Don’t forget that some of those big scopes weigh a boatload. Maybe this’ll work for you:
I agree , i have been shooting a 100 dollar scope and i am ready to up grade to a 300 to 400 dollar scope ,
but if you cant swing it now the leapers are said to be pretty decent if your not used to looking thru a 1000 dollar scope 🙂
i have a BSA 4×12 on my condor with parallax adjustment on the front that goes down to 10 yards ,it gets the job done , don’t know for sure but im sure it’s about a 100 dollar scope, it has bad wash out when the sun is in the front for the scope, it tracts well until the temp gets cold , then you have to tap it to get the cross hairs to move when adjusting, it has nice target adjustment knobs,
my mandatory scope features will be, target knobs, mill dot reticule( and i love the 1/2 mil dot reticle on the hawk scopes), and side parallax adjustment that goes down to 10 yards . and at least 20x on the top end, there are some leapers copes in the under 200 dollar price range that fit the bill, but i think i will end up with a Hawk

all this being said i would love to spend 1000 on a scope but that ‘s not going to happen any time soon, but i think that you can get a scope for under 200 that you would be very satisfied with, 100 i don’t know , mine is functional and has really pretty good clarity for 100 , cant say about another 100 scope ,

talon i wouldnt have anything less than a 4×12, this is what i have in a bsa , it gets the josb done, but!!!
i am shooting at smaller things with my air guns than any other rifle i own, so i want a higher magnification scope,im looking at going to a minimum of 20x , but i would still like to be able to turn down the scope to 4x to 6x for close range stuff. so this means 6x 20 or 8×32 or in this area.
I would say that it depends mostly on what your shooting at and the distance, i started air gunning with a fixed 4x , wanted more after i had that set up right quick,
but with a 12x i can shoot at bugs at 50′ , but just barely

I know, just giving you some things to consider.
On PB’s I have had just Leupolds, everything from a fixed 4 power to a M4, the exception was a Montana Vintage Arms handmade 6 power middot, externly adjusted spring recoiling 23 inch BPCR scope that I paid over a grand for.
Then Air guns raised their adictive head and I went for Baraska’s, I mean after all they were just air guns. Wrong.
I used to say spend on your glass what you spend on your PB rifle. Bottom line, altho we seldom do it, because airguns are primarily more expensve than PB’s, the same should be true for airguns if your serious about shooting.
So we buy our glass at Walmart and wonder why they go bad.
Just some thoughts to consider and now I will get down from my soapbox. 😳

Scope selection is a personal thing. I have a few guns and I put scopes on them based on many factors…
Price, purpose, looks, how they balance the guns, etc, etc.
You wouldnt want to put a huge scope on an SS, but if you had a 24 inch barrel on it, a bunch of accessories, etc… then the larger scope woudlnt mess with balance as much.
Generally, lower powered scopes are ideal for hunting. I do a lot of bench shooting and so I prefer 16-24x power. Hunting, I prefer 8-12x power.
Roach uses less power and that’s fine. Just as with pellet selection, you have find out what works best for you.
My scope is a fixed magnification @ 4. And 32 mm end, that’s what I meant. But ok thanks for the info.

I am a firm beleiver that we use too much power on air gun scopes.
Having said that 4 power is a little meek for 50 to 60 yards.
Now remember when your dealing with these cheap chinese scopes that everyone is crowing about being as good as the high end ones and they have never let them down that, on high power they are dark and blurry and to me simply unusable.
The fix for that is a scope with a maximum magnification of 12 for the cheap ones and 14 to 15 on the medium priced scopes.
Another thing to consider, when trying to come in it at a certain price point, the more things added by a manufacturer to the scope means less money used to purchase good lenses. ie., target knobs, 30 MM, side focus, mildots and those ever present illuminated reticles.
My $350.00 Tactical 3200 Bushnell 5×15 is a good example, it does not have a 30 MM tube or side focus or 32 power or a reticle that looks like it belongs on a christmas tree, and guess what, it is pretty damn sharp in resolution, why? Because Bushnell spent the money on lenses instead of things to attract the “Walter Mitty snipers” among us.
To me one of the best buys out there for a Talon SS or Talon, would be the Clearridge 3×9, it has a AO and mildots and compares with the Leupold 3×9 EFR.
