Q:

scope help?and Question, and answers

I post this on scopes but did not get any input, Or is it just apples and oranges, No one is better just your taste buds?

I have a Hawke sidewinder 4×16-50 pro on my 22 cricket I really like it,
I have been looking at the 6×24-56 Hawke sidewinder for my 25 .
Now I came across the Viper scope, MTC-Optisan-Viper-Rifle-Scope-6-24-x-56-with-Illuminated-MTC-SCB-Reticle.
I really want the better scope, What would you do ????
I am shooting a 8-32×56 accushot on the 25 now, its ok a little on the heavy side,
Just wondering if there was any one that knew a lot about scopes that could help me pick the winner…
Its the reason I am on the list , To learn… I am pretty green ,
Oh and I put the 3×9 Bug on the 25 Marauder, Love the lightness but have to sight it in every time I take it out to shoot it…
Just a little off but it counts in pellet guns, I HATE to miss my shot……
Thanks
Mike

Not familiar with the Mambas… I’ll have to check that out. I bought my cricket all set up from a guy in Fla. who got it from Tony. My very first impressions on the rifle were when it unpacked it… 1. Dang, this thing is heavier than I imagined, and 2. It sure is top-heavy… I’ve learned to shoot it very well and in fact enjoy shooting with the camera as opposed to actaually looking through the scope with the eye for bench or stationary targets… Have not been able to make it happen with spot/stalk squirrel hunting yet tho. After a couple attempts, I quickly ditched that stupid camera! :biggrinn:

Thanks for all the input!

I mounted the Mamba Lite 4-16×44 on my Cricket 22 cal STD after removing the Hawke.

As soon as I picked it up I notice that it NOT top heavy anymore ! Even thought it lost about 8.5 oz. it feels like a pound, no more torqueing on my wrist and worrying that when I leave it on the bench that it’s going to tip over !

Being a Bullpup it’s easy to make it top heavy when adding a 30mm tube size scope to it with a large objective. The 1″ tube on the Mamba Lite are just what I needed in that weight class with the added benefits of it’s Ultra clarity optics. IMO, a lower mag but it beats having a high magnification 32x scope with a blurry optics any day !

Thanks guys for all the input on scopes, Got a super deal, And my new scope will be here , Friday,
It was really a toss up between the Hawke 6×24-56 and the Vortex 6×24-56,
Mike

I’ve got some really cool videos of slo-mo shots with the scope cam… longest one on camera is 97 yards… next shot was one at 113 yards, but I forgot to push the record button on the camera… That .25 is much more devastating than the .22 cal. Condor…

Oh I used to love shooting turtle heads with my single shot 22 , I was about 10 or 12 and I was a dead I shot on the turtles in the creeks and ponds around Wichita falls , Texas..
25 to 50 LB snapping turtles was nothing for the gang of kids I hung with to pull out of the near by creeks,,,
Mike

I’ve sure enjoyed this one so far. With this scope and he Ernest tuned .25 long, a 50 yard head shot on a turtle on a log is just a chip shot. Longest so far has been 139 yards (according to my Leupold RX-1000)… First shot over his head, second one on the money… I’m hoping ol’ Santa will bring me another one for my Condor SS.

That’s the one I have. I got 2 of them. Got good deal for both of them, can’t resist.

Hey gus, mine is sort of a hybrid… It is a 6.5, but it only goes to 20X… Check out the magnification wheel pics below. It is indeed a sidewinder tactical and has the 42mm objective lens… I’m new to Hawke optics as I was not familiar with them until go got into this pcp addiction about 6 months ago, so I don’t know whether this is a new model, old model, or some sort of “Mistake”…. 😳

Sidewinder 30 6.5x goes up to 24x instead of 20x. I just like the extra 4x magnification. And a tad more field of view on a bigger objective lenses. I wasn’t being clear on the previous post. I don’t own any of my the regular sidewinder. I got 2 sidewinder tactical. I need to proof read my post more.

quote Gus:

I just shot with both of my sidewinder tac and they max at 20x. I ‘ll go for regular sidewinder because the weight difference is negligible. But I got both of them for less than regular price.

Is the regular any better on low light? That tac is nice, but late evening/early morning squirrels are sometimes tough to pick up in dark timber…
