I dropped off my wife at Goodwill this afternoon because she wanted to see if she could save money on finding scrubs (work clothes). In preparation for my NC shroud arrival tomorrow, I decided to work on my pellet trap again. I went to Lowes and bought a $40 electric steel box. I then headed back to pickup my wife but she asked me to come in because she wasn’t done browsing. I was swearing up and down blaming her being a woman. Walking around trying to find my wife, I found this:

The box was nailed together pretty good but I wanted to make sure it was deep enough to put duct seal. Opened it and it was so it came home with me for $14.99. Before heading home, I stopped by Lowes and returned the electric box. I am very excited about it, perfect size. What I don’t get is why are there two mirrors on the side of the box if it is going to be inside the wall?
Question for those who use duct seal. Do I need to do multiple layers of the putty, or can one bar deep stop the pellet over and over?

Donny: please stop over thinking your self and just buy a small Rubber Maid tub, fill it with rubber mulch, cut out an opening in the front of it for a target to be taped to and then really enjoy the silence that the pellet trap provides.
I have seen posts from guys that have used a 5 gal bucket to do the same thing.
The pellet hitting the paper target makes more noise that the pellet does hitting the rubber mulch.
If you don’t believe me, you can try shooting without the paper target and see how loud/silent it is without the paper target.
It works great for me in my basement. I tried the duct seal, it was louder.
Sounds like that’ll work. Plus, it won’t be long before there’s a one-inch layer of lead to contend with. Please post your review of the NC shroud; he’s quite the legend. Good-looking stuff.
I can count how many times I’ve shot my gun on one hand. Desperately waiting for NC shroud to shoot in my backyard.
I know exactly what I am going to do tomorrow. Put 1/4 inch plywood on top of the steel backing, then place the duct seal on that. I also have 3 bags of rubber mulch that I bought for the old box that I didn’t use. Whatever space is still left on top I will top it off with the mulch. Use chicken wire to hold everything in. I don’t think the pellet will be able to penetrate through all of that. I will be really surprise if it even hit the steel back.
It’s wild to see what kind of damage lead pellets can do to steel plate if they’re going fast enough. The knock-down paddle on my nutter target is starting to get seriously concave.

Go with 1/8. The steel squirrel, knock-down I was given is getting destroyed with the .25 R3m @ 30 yds with just a half dozen shots; it’s 1/16. Plus, Donny’s drilling pellets into the same spot by now 😉

Never heard of that term “FOE”, sounds kinky but no. What I did try to do was quote you above and replied regarding using my old pellet box. But when I submitted only my message showed up. So what does FOE mean?

Nice find….don’t waste money on duct seal…just use used diapers and dog poop…works just as well. 😉
No need a tree. try to use this shopping cart. put it anywhere you like to shoot. Fill it with a box of cloth and cover something on the top for stopping rain. put the target on the front and keep shooting. a lot of fun. also you can recycle the pellets. don’t mess up with duck seal, there is no way to get the pellets out.
I’ll be on the lookout for more steel plates. I will update tomorrow with a picture of the final product.
Right now you think you are good, but imagine 6 months into owning the Edgun, you got better and all your shoots are going into the same hole, nothing is going to stop that .25 JSB from going thru the back.
I bought an army ammo can, and used that as portable pellet catcher, yesterday I found a few dimples on the back side. I rather use a steel plate than buying another layer of duct seal. You can go 1/8 inch rather than 1/16 inch just to be sure,,

For duct seal, one bar deep should be fine for .25 caliber, however I would reinforce the back with a piece of steel plate 1/16 thick just to make sure.

Soon you will have enough stuff to remodel a bathroom. 😀 I bet a toilet bowl would stop them.
I am thinking of taking out the fillers in my old pellet box, and put this box inside of it. Should fit and I have 2 x 4’s going up and down in the back.

the old goat hAs a point!!!! That duck seal isn’t cheap…. Plus. If you wanna reclaim your lead your screwed, with mulch just dump it out on a tarp spread it thin and pick out the pellets.
