Q:

ShoeBox; 2 video tips

Finally used enough air from my Guppy tank to warrant a refill. Gee, it was down to 3,400 PSI and the Guppy will hold 4,500 PSI. it took under 58 minutes to do the 1,100 pound job. My PowerMate home shop compressor would rest a second or so over 4 minutes and then run for 21 to 24 seconds to build up the 90 PSI working pressure precharge.

Oh, I promised 2 video tips, didn’t I ❓

OK, watch this video and pick out what you think the tip is:

And even better:
Quick cover On & Off

Twohsieh, Wow ❗

I think you meant to say ‘Cut the fill time in half.’
But, we got the idea. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Thanks for posting and please give more details.

Anybody got a hookup for more than two shoebox’s

My bad, your right, double the rate, 1/2 the time.

I’ll see your Shoebox and raise you one! 😀

Thanks Synopsys! 😉

OK, now I get the twist tie thing and the rubberband thing as well. Where there is a will, there is a way, or necessity is the mother of invention.

Yeah, i’d have to quit work to use that much air… 😆

Thanks Synopsys ❗
That works.
BUT…NOW I’m seeing Da da DOUBLE when I look at Twohsieh’s post 😯 😯

Holy crap!!! 😯

double the fill rate. 1/2 the time.
around 900 psi/hour on an 44cf scba tank. 3000psi to 4500 psi in 1 hour 40 min.

Links are working fine here. Copy and pasted link from between the Img tags into a new window. Opens up shockwave player and plays.

Sorry Steve, the address looks correct except now when I copy it, it has a couple extra spaces. I tried a fresh copied address but that still doesn’t work. It works only when I play it from within my Photobucket account.

Anybody got a suggestion???

Hi Lurker, I couldn’t get your links to work.

With fan running it must have taken 4 or 5 hours did notreally keep track. I shut it down about every hour for a few seconds to put some lube on the piston rods. turned right back on and let it rip!
I could hold my fingers on the pistons even after all that running.
That has got to extend the life of the seals!

Yep, thats why i said maybe. I’m in no rush to mod my Shoebox. But over time, i will decide what i want. Right now, my big fan (kinda like yours but its a floor stand version) works very well. it moves a ton of cool air.

One thing I did to the cover was cut out the small bar at the bottom of the outlet with a pair of side cutters so I can remove my cover without needing to disconnect the hose. Love the elastic idea. I shall do that next. Thanks.

i have been using a small fan sitting in front of my shoebox for 8 months. works great, cheap, and a LOT easier than cutting a hole in the shoebox case and installing a computer fan then having to wire it up. and no matter what anyone says, a small fan sitting in front of an open shoebox is going to move a lot more air over the pistons/cylinders than a 3-4 inch computer fan sucking air into a closed housing.
