Shoebox will be here inside of two weeks
Note on Tom Kaye’s Shoebox forum, he is assembling the first 100 for shipment, I am number 54. On my shop bench, everything sets, oillesspancake compressor, moisture trap and hose and two scba tanks.
Bad news is, JDS just sent me a email that his 4500 regulator will not fit my Pygme bottle.
It is just a slight difference in money to make my own good news and get a regultor from Joe Branco like the one he sold to 80 grit, put it on the pygmee and attach a lifeline to my etac and have any out put I choose for that new 25 caliber barrel I am getting tomorrow, UPS site says it is in Portland loaded on a truck south to me for tomorrows delivery.
And maybe on the Disco pistol with the 10 shot mag I am building, thanks to my fellow enabler and addict Riverside.
If I keep up on this rate, I will have to pick things up at the UPS store, I don’t think they deliver to homeless people. I wonder if I can get all this kit under my cardboard box? ❓

Dollarhunt, it wouldn’t be hard to make your own out of a quick fill connector and a stainless steel pipe cap.

my feed compressor has a regulator that i have set at 100psi. i have the shoebox and feed compressor on a simple sprinkler timer that shuts everything off every 3 hours and i lube it with lithium at that point( although the other day, i did not run for 3 hours to fill my tank- only needed about 80 minutes to fill it). when pressure in the tank reached 4400psi, i just sat and watched it to see when( or if) it would cut off. sure enough, at 4500psi, the kill switch tripped. at least in my rig at this time of year and this ambient temp, the collar position is OK. i am sure when it gets hot again, i will have to adjust the collar again. BTW, the pressure gauge on my fill line read the same as the gauge built into the scba valve. i hadn’t thought about the increased resistance in cold seals, other moving parts, springs, etc., but it makes sense that the rod did not expand that much. for sure lubrication was not an issue as i lubed it just before i fired it up. where can i buy a dead head that has a Foster quick connect dead head on the end?
make sure the little compressor you buy has a regulator. Set it at 100psi max to prevent the Shoebox motor from being overloaded.
Arm your self with a tube of white lithium grease and apply it every 4 hours of run time.
WRT the shift in pressure cutout the rod has not changed length. Force to run the compressor is up….. cold seals, lack of lube, possible change in spring strength.
Lube it up and when warmed up dead head it watching the pressure to confirm the cutout pressure.
Moving that collar 1/4″ will over pressure your setup.

i use a dessicant trp/filter in the line from the feed compressor to the shoebox. got it at harbor freight for about $6-7. it uses silica gel beads that can be replaced. not sure if it really matters but it’s there anyway.

I don’t have a Home Depot that is close. Sears has a 1.5 gal, 150 psi, 2.0 SCFM @ 90 psi oil free pancake air compressor for $89.99. My local Sears outlet didn’t have one in stock, they ordered it for me and I will have it Tuesday. $97 and change with tax.
Are you using any kind of moisture trap or desiccant?
no. he was asking about an oil less compressor to feed a shoebox. these pump to about 135psi.

Home Depot. i think it is called the air scout model and cost about $80. harbor freight has them cheaper but their output is less than 2cfm( which is what Tom recomends).. used mine last week for the first time in 3 months to pump my scba tank from 3200 to 4500. when i first turned it on, the kill switch activated very quickly-at 3500psi-. i got to thinking about why( last time i used it, it was 105 degrees and it cut off exactly at 4500 psi). this day it was 45 degrees. i slid the locking collar out on the rod about 1/4 inch and it again cut off at 4500psi as it was supposed to. the nearest i can figure is that the metal on the rod had contracted in the colder weather, placing the collar closer to the kill switch when turned on. it worked great and took about 1 hour 20 minutes to reach max pressure. i guess when i use it in hot weather, i will have to adjust the collar inward again. no big deal. as i have said before- I LOVE THIS THING!
