Shrink fit frame-valve collar
Well, my collar in the back of the frame has always been a tad loose and the grubscrew holding dimple has become elongated
So….
Im planning on making a stainless steel threaded bushing with much better tolerances and will be fully threaded so that the bottle is held by much more threads than the normal 1.5 turns of the original.
One thing though, Ideally, I would want to shrink fit the bushing in place, but I don’t want to start waving the blowtorch around the frame so I was wondering if sticking the bushing in the freezer would shrink it enough to be a slight press fit in the frame, but at normal temperatures it would return to size and be a tight fit, and then still use the grubscrew for added security.
If this is not possible, what are the tolerances for a goor press fit, I don’t fancy using a large press on the frame and would go for the “Lump of wood and a good hammer” method?

Dave, that’s a problem with the micrometers. Now they have digital ones, so eventually that problem might go away, but I’ve always found it a PIA to check back and forth, add or subtract 25 thousandths. Ugh. I’m poor AND stubborn, a dangerous combination, so still use older Starrett micros that were bequeathed to me. Now I usually use cheap calipers, which are direct reading, until I get real close… then switch to micrometers for the final fit up since I know I’m in the ballpark. No more chance at error by being off a turn.

Dang, at that age I became a user…of gasoline, that is. 20 cents a gallon. So, for a couple bucks we could cruise every drive-in restaurant in 2 counties and go to one of the first drive-in theaters a couple counties away. The rumor was that Dad’s ’59 Impala convertible, they called a swallow tail ground hog, would lift off the ground at 100 mph. NOT TRUE! But, the 4 wheel drum brakes were like butter at 105. Crested a hill to see a red light ahead. Right through it at over 70 and I didn’t speed again for a long time. Thank God for seeing me through that stupid trick.

Maybe a QC problem ?
Not likely a Quality Control problem. Most likely I put it in a hurry going stir crazy and needing to get out to the range. I’d bet I didn’t tighten the grub screws enough.
Too much variation.

Cheers WOK, it didn’t really take that long to make, maybe 25 minutes, but the feeling of WTF when it just wobbled around in the frame made me chuckle to myself about what an idiot I am 🙂

I just finished a fully threaded collar for LURKER and ended up being 1 turn out on my micrometer and it is too small 🙁

I had my tank retaining Collar in and out a few times.
Do you have 2 retaining screws in the pistol grip mount area??
My Condor had 2 grub screws retaining the collar.
I was worried about alignment when putting it back.
But it seemed to go back in the same place.
You could use some blue loctite around the collar to help.
I used to overtighten the tank!
About 1-1/2 turns to nip up the tank.
Should not need to get carried away tightening the tank onto the rifle.
That could be the main cause of problems.
At first I know I was tightening up too much.
Now I just nip the tank till it stops, say 5 o’clock on the WOK Butt plate.

Then tweak it to 6 o’clock, reference to the small hand on the clock.
Like to see you try and tighten it a full 2 turns 😛
Actually it is possible that it is even less than 1/12th of a turn.
But it seems like quite a good start point. See if it comes loose while shouldering, I doubt it!
I’ve filled out a collar using shimm sheet brass.(don’t know how it’s called in english) In holland it’s called latoenkoper.
Wrap it tightly around the collar 3/4 around leaving room for the grubscrew. A bit fidly to get the right thickness. But after some trial and error I got a very tight pressfit I could barely push home using my thumbs. Tightening the grubscrew pushes all play one way!
Just an easy fix!

I once drilled several very precisely located holes in a piece… only problem was they were all precisely off by .1″ because I forgot to subtract the edge finder radius….
