Simmons scope for Cricket ??
What about the Simmons .44 Mag 6-24×44 scope ? I´m in a search for a lightweight scope with at least 20x optics but don´t know anything about the Simmons. Not familiar with the brand at all. I have a Hawke Varmint 6-24×44 which doesn´t really cut it, opticswise , and i have an MTC Viper 10×44 on my EdGun and while a good scope the 10x is too little for anything beyond 50 meters. So a new acceptable quality scope is needed for the becoming Cricket .25 and the Simmons look like a good candidate due its very light weight . On paper at least . Can also be just waste of money, like the Hawke … I don´t need no S&B, Swarovski nor March for my air-rifles though since IMO that´s overdoing it.
Anyone with first hand experience/knowledge about Simmons ??

Its a real sparrow slayer with that 12″ barrel. Total length with the moderator is 33″. I have it set to 890 FPS with the hi-flo valve. Its extremely quiet.

Very nice. I have my Condor modded up to shoot casts. Its just more power that I need around the house, though, where I shoot 95% of the time (about 110 FPE with 62 grain) but I do pick off an occasional opossum with it. Also, The BC of the casts really have a range to be concerned with up in 22 LR territory.

The MadDog Stock made a HUGE Difference! 😉 I would love to have a .177. It would have to be great on Air! But here in Texas, the wind is ALWAYS blowing 🙁 . And exactly why I am going to a .257 with bullets. The much higher BC should make a very big difference. With BC values starting at 4x that of the .25 cal pellet. With some going much much higher. 😉
Check out the Pic of the BBl. and you can get a good idea oof just how far I have gone with it. 😈
Good shooting. My Stubby Talon with a Maddog stock with the new .177 barrel shoots under 1/2″ 5 shot groups at 50 yards all day long with JSB 10.34s. Its very consistent with the stock on. You have to be very careful with the MD off to get the same consistency or it will wander.

I found this Pic. It is only 3 shots. I don’t shoot 10 shot groups, as I don’t feel 10 shot groups have anything to do with hunting. It’s the first couple of shots that matter. If I were a bench rest competitor, 10 shots might make sense for me.
Most groups I shoot are 3 or 5 shots. Mostly 5 shots.
This is only 85 yards if I remember right. But you can get the idea here. Shot in 122 mph wind, with gusting cross winds thrown in. By clicking on the slide show arrows, you will find several well under 1/2″ groups at the 85 yard mark. When I can get to a 100 yard range, it really doesn’t open up that much at all. The trick is finding a fps that keeps the pelets from spiraling. That and I spent hours hand laping and polishing the barrel and the crown, testing, and repeating until it all came together. .

For some reason, I can’t up load from photo bucket right now. I click on the link and nothing! Grrr. But I have posted the groups here in the past. A search can find them. But our search is hard to use.
Also, check out Yarrh’s groups on the yellow, along with Unrepentedsinners. Urepentd is Roach Creek here on the tag. Yarrh has been shooting long range with airguns longer than most of us have been shooting ag’s at any range. He has posted many-many under 1/2″ 100 yard groups on the yellow. He test a lot. Barrels, twist, pressures and velocities. A real source of well earned knowlage.
I’ve heard very little about the Clearridge. Vorteck is worth checking out, and every once in a while, an older Simmons shows up on the classifieds on the yellow. The older made in the Phillines scopes. Very good scopes! And can be had for under 150, and many times around 100 dollars. I have seen them sell on eBay quite often. I have on on my .17 HMR. But the Zeiss stays on the AG. LOL!!! I shoot the AG more en a day than the powder burners in a year. I shoot the AG Every day when possible. And as I am retired, that is just about every day. So it gets the Good Scope.
O.K. then. I quess i´m poking the hornets nest again but i have to ask ; What about a Clearidge ?? Ultra XP 6-20 x 40 http://clearidgeoptics.com/default.aspx?act=pro&opt=detail&id=839
Also a lighter weight scope bt the quality is rather unknown to me.
That has to be the renowned Zeiss clarity … 😀
I´d really like to see a 10 shot grouping from an AG – regardless the caliber – on 100m (or even yards) range with a CC less than 2″. I can shoot my Ed ,when Gods are willing and the winds just a mellow breeze from south-south west , to a CC around a 1/2 an inch at 50 meters but that with only 5 shots. I can only dream about groups in that size at double the distance.
I can do that grouping at 100m with a .22LR in a drunken stance though. When winds are easy and willing i´m quite confident i can do it with a .17HMR at 200m but that little round really is almost as wind sensitive as an AG so in a wind – no way.
Anyone who can group his/her AG in .22 or .25 cal inside 1/2″ at 100m (or,again, even 100 yards) will have my respect. Hell – respect to anyone who can group an AG in ANY cal like that. :4:
Naw, the Zeiss just makes my Dick look more beautiful! 😉 😆
Didn’t notice you were shooting a .22 AG. The .25 will buck the wind a bit better.
Should have a .257 bullet shooting bbl. in, in a few days. It should really shine at 200-300 yards.
My AG is only a Airforce with a custom .25 bbl. right now, and it will regurally shoot 1/2″ and less at 100 yards. It’s all in the workmanship, and the shooter.
YarrH has proven that many times over.

Really?? Didn´t know that …
I myself shoot far better with a .22LR or,especially, .17HMR to 100m and beyond. The 18gr pellet is too sensitive for winds and such once the range opens up – for me at least. I can keep the groups inside an inch with a .22LR/100m, and smaller with a .17HMR, but there´s no way i can do that with my EdGun. I need to try the Cricket .25 on 100m when that damned gun decides to arrive .. 😉
If it is upto the task then i´ll invest on a quality glass for it (since if that happens i have a NEED for it) but as for now i believe a 2000$ scope on an airgun is overkill.
I think the only one who was ever allowed into a high end rimfire competition with an airgun was the famous “Yrrah” (Harry) from down under…
He outshot them all……… 😉
Food for thought ???
😀
I´m not talking about your dick-particularly – but since you opened the door then let´s talk dicks and methods of magnification ; Do you seriously think your Zeiss at 10x magnification make your pecker look any bigger than, say, a Hawke or an Simmons will -taken those are put at the same zoom level ??
And the .22 EdGun outshooting a .22LR at 100 yards ?? I seriously doubt that, taken the RM is of ,at least , an acceptable quality (Anschütz, Sako,FWB or to name an US made rifle, a Volquartzen) with the right ammo to that particular rifle. Not even without a hint of any wind.
I feel i´m sticking my chin out here but i stand behind that statement. Firmly.
BTW – A Zeiss is a nice scope. I myself like the Swarovski.

Your a scope snob.”
“Y”-Yes I am! 😆 😉
Sir Ville;
Thank you so much for your interiest in my Dick. It is greatly appreciated! (Pictures avaliable for a fee).
Helpful hint, If you go to higher magnification, It will make your Dick look bigger! 😉
Just trying to be helpful. 😆
I also will not spend the money on S&B or Night Norce.
I’ll Just stick with my lowley Zeiss Scopes thank you.
By the way, an eEd Gun should out shoot a .22 RF at 100 yards if you know what your doing with it. Just say’n.

P.S. Well my wife saw this thread and said my “Dick” is her concern, and not yours. So I guess pictures are out. You know how women are! 😳 Sorry.

O.K. 3 shots is a bit different matter. I shoot BR and as said all kind of AG hunting is forbidden in Sweden – save for those hunters that have a permit for urban pest control. Then, and only then, it´s allowed to shoot doves, rabbits, rats and such with an AG. For BR those 3 shot groups don´t matter much – hardly even 5 shotters since i want/need consistency shot by shot – which i find hard to find with an AG shot at very long ranges but i don´t sort nor weight/wash and fix the pellets and thus shoot them right as is from the tin.
