Lots of helpful information. Ed, thanks for the correction on the “cap” at the end of the shroud. I really appreciate your input.

Mam’, saved me some time as well. If I want silent, I need to go with an unsightly “beer can” extension to get the volume I need, but then I will need a periscope for the end of my rifle scope in order to see over the shroud extension.

There is an answer to this, and I will find it!

I harken back to the caliber .30 Browning water jacket cooled machine gun. It had a tube that fed into a large water drum, allowing the steam from the heated barrel to condense back into water and be recycled. I’m thinking that a 1/4″ line from the back of the shroud leading to one of the new mini-compressers that has a line directly to the pressure tube on the rifle. That way I could “recycle” the used air back into the Edgun air reservoir. My initial calculations indicate up to 1000 shots per fill. The problem is the need for electricity from a portable generator, and enough weight gain to turn the Short Edgun into a crew manned weapon.

Hmmmmm…. It IS possible there is a better idea out there.

I can’t educate my neighbors, they are too mean and ugly. I can’t use loud music because our little village is run by old, ugly, and mean people who are as dumb as my neighbors. They have a noise ordinance, so I’ll have the cops pounding on my door for being too loud.

I hate to involve Pab in this, but his “Tampon-ater” modifier, not well know in the U.S., might be the answer. Somehow, he recycles Tampons into a bamboo shroud which is almost nine feet long. He swears by the used Tampons as effective baffles, and explains that the the additional length provided by the nine foot bamboo shroud gives sufficient volume to muffle a small truck, or completely silence a quiet PCP rifle. It does require a bipod for every two feet of shroud! He also invented an edible shroud! He’s uglier than a hare-lipped Grackle, but is quite inventive.

I’m no rocket surgeon, but I WILL find an answer!

I had a near incident with the nosy neighbors next door the day I received my Shorty Edgun.

The chicken woman’s husband, Howard, is really into controlling other people’s business. His wife is the one who watches me with the binoculars when I’m on the lake, and checks me out the window when I’m in the yard.

When my Shorty pushed the barrel forward 1/8 inch, I was firing into the lake by my dock. Only thick woods are across the lake, about 250 yards distant. I have about a 90 degree shooting angle from my deck to my dock, and I have never had a ricochet. Remember I live on a mountain, steep slopes from the houses to the lake. The only time I shoot in the lake is when a snake is close to my dock, when I need to do a quick initial sight-in, or a goose is standing on my seawall.

In this manner I can get my scope zeroed within a fraction of an inch of on target at 50 yards with just five or six shots. Then I take it to the woods and zero it in with a paper target. Anyway, numbnuts was fishing out of sight from me, to my right at 90 degrees, probably 150 yards distant behind heavy trees in a cove, when I fired. As far as I knew no one was on the lake and certainly no one was anywhere near my line of fire. So when the rifle went ka-blam…I quietly went inside. Within minutes, Ol’ Howard was out there by my dock in his boat, squinting towards my house. He can’t see too well and he looked like an armadillo trying to see all the way up to my house. I just stayed inside, resisting the urge to put holes in his aluminum boat. That night his wife asked my wife what I was shooting at. I told my wife the truth, that I wasn’t shooting at anything. (That’s kind of true!) Well, she said, they heard you shooting. I replied that hearing something that sounds like a shot doesn’t mean someone is shooting. (That’s kind of true too!) Things like this can only be proven when two viable witnesses observe your actions. Otherwise, it didn’t happen. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

So the Short Edgun is a bit louder than the standard model. There’s about 5″ of shroud beyond the barrel tip, and it’s quiet, but not dead silent, which is what I occasionally need.

I noted that the end of the shroud, which is 1″ OD aluminum tubing, has a screw on cap. What I want to do is obtain a shroud extension threaded the same as that cap, so I can remove the cap, screw on a shroud extension when I need absolute silence, but be able to remove it and screw the cap back on when I put the rifle back in it’s carrying case, or am shooting in a more air gunner friendly place.

I’m pretty sure I need at least several inches of shroud to increase the volume of the shroud to accommodate the volume of air released. The Mrod shroud is exactly that same size and it’s baffles would fit the extension nicely. Soooo, what I plan to do is contact Marmot Militia and see if he will cut and thread an extension for me, I’ll drop in the Mrod baffles and that should solve my need for occasional silence nicely. In theory at least. If anyone has a better idea, or knows why this won’t work, please let me know.

I love the Short Edgun. Perfect size for what I do, and the removable shroud extension will solve my nosy neighbor problems. I can tell no performance difference between it and the standard Edgun, in the ranges I shoot ie: 50 to 75 yards. It punches the 18 gr pellet out with serious authority and the pellet slap when it hits indicates a world of hurt awaits whatever I decide to start punching holes in this Winter. (domestic geese)

I’m going to join a local gun club so I can have a bench rest and some privacy while doing some serious shooting this winter. Granted the daytime temperatures can drop to 50-60 degrees F in the winter, but I am dedicated to my sport.

I haven’t been able to shoot because I had GERD surgery last Tuesday and have been enjoying a liquid diet and some serious drugs. I’m off them this weekend and then I’m released to normal activities. But, I intend to do my duty for you guys so all the Edgun wannebe’s can make an informed decision on the Short, Standard, Long Matadors, and the Lelya .22, which incidentally I was amazed at the power of that little rascal. My Shorty has a 15.5″ barrel, and the Lelya has a 12″ barrel. It appears the Long and Standard Matadors are quieter than the short models. Food for thought for those in situations like mine. I’ll post pics and details on the shroud extension when I get that taken care of. Jim has been super in his turnaround times for me, and reasonable in price. He can do a lot more than just Etacs, regs, and such. Lot of talent there untapped.

Gawd, I love this gun!!!

It took me roughly one minute to correct the problem. Two screws loosened, seat the O ring, push and hold the barrel back into place, tighten the screws. Problem solved!

A monkey could do this blindfolded!
