Smooth Twist barrels on Edgun Matadors

History has shown that those that bash the ST barrels have never used one and when they do they either are as ass and don’t admit they were wrong or they come clean and admit they were wrong. 😮 ASkiff was one of the bashers and then he got an ST barrel and loved it, he did a 180 and openly acknowledged that he was being a dick and was 100% wrong. 😀

I looked into using a ST barrel for FT and at the 20ft-lb limit they are not as good as regular barrels (in 177 and 22). Dave G has switched to ST barrels from the other manufacturers, considering his desire to make things as good as possible it says a lot…

The results of FX rifles shooting ST barrels in Extreme benchrest competitions speak for themselves. So do the results of the Benchmark barrels in benchrest competitions.

If you take the best LW, HW, BSA, Benchmark and ST barrels with their best pellets they will most likely have the same results, super accurate.

If you take random LW, HW, Benchmark and ST barrels with random pellets the results will likely be from worst to best; LW=BSA, HW, ST, Benchmark. Which also happens to be the order of their pricing… 😕

Start messing with the power and the ST barrels get fussy. Start messing with pellets and the LW & BSA barrels get fussy.

I think the ST barrels are the easiest to manufacture consistently and tend to like a larger variety of pellets but don’t like a wide range of velocities.

LW and BSA have had bad batches and manufacturing changes that have produced what most people would consider crap.

The word on the street is if you get a custom batch of LW barrels the first batch is killer and the subsequent batches tend to be not as good as the first.

There is no need for a double blind test (which would require at least two people, one to set everything up properly and another to shoot the rifle without knowing which barrel was installed) since there are many shooters who are looking for pure accuracy. I don’t care which manufacturer is at the top of the list, I just want the barrel that is at the top of the list even if it is a piece of smooth electrical conduit or pasta with a hole in it.

I see many of the leaders in many of your matches over there using the BSA barrels. What is interesting is they are somewhat inexpensive.

Believe there hammer forged yes mate ive had a few off them in 22 and they are great the usual bsa quality u would expect i have a few mates that have machiened tons of them upfor rapid owners and not one complain yet i had one machiened to fit a stealth also and that was mental they run out of stock fast but soon get more in demand for them is dieing down abit at min as alot of the rapid guys have turned to crickets at min but lads of the theoben lads have them on there rapids now

Not sure how u would go with shipping but all the rapid boys are having these blanks from bsa machiened to fit there rapids with great results indeed

OG is right, he sent me a ST barrel long time back when they 1st released them & after lots of testing we came to the conclusion that they are just not as good an the original R2.5 barrels.

Now we have the R3 with even better barrels but the ST barrels also improved & I have the FX Boss with the latest ST barrel & it’s very very accurate, does easily 9mm @ 50 yards and I am sure it can do better, I also have the wolverine and it sucks badly even at 50 but that’s only cause it’s not regulated and over the chrony its shooting these JSB .30s at above 1000 FPS.

Also data shows that most bench rest completions have been dominated by ST barrels & my friend who has an Airgun shop here always sends me FX rifles for repair & they all shoot very very good.

But I will say this, I have an older Air Ranger 80 ft/lb in .25 and it’s fully modified with a regulator, new hammer, crown etc.. And it’s by faaaaaaar the most accurate rifle I have that can shoot easy 6mm groups @ 50 yards & I even compared it to the most accurate .22LR I have and it’s just as accurate , Daystate LW barrels are really really good but since most aren’t regulated like FX they don’t show their true colors until they are tuned.

Now a days it’s touch to say which barrel is better but if you ask me I would defiantly go for CZ which do come on “some” crickets.

My 2nd choice would be a LW, just because I am still not comfortable with ST, but it doesn’t mean that LW will always outshoot ST nor the other way around.
