Smooth Twist barrels on Edgun Matadors
Dears….
i just think of this while i was watching Eduard’s vid about R3 barrel installing and think of installing Smooth Twist barrel on Edguns…..
i thought Edgun regulators can provide more powerful shots with Smooth Twist Barrels…. just my thought and opinion…. i am not sure whether am i correct or wrong???
i though since the pellet head and skirts will not force the grooves of the barrels, then should the Edgun regulators provide us more powerful shots…
what do you think guys?????
please give us some nice idea about this and good info….
PS; Eduard, have you ever think of installing STB on your Matadors???

It makes sense. I believe so. LW grooves stabilize the pellet spinning better for a long range.
A couple of years ago, Naser asked me to buy and send him a 25 cal FX smooth twist barrel. He wanted to try it on his 25 cal long Matador.
I was also interested in trying one so, I ordered 2 and sent one to Naser.
We both found out that they shot as well as the stock LW barrel out to 75 yards or so. After that, the stock LW barrel shot better. The further out, the worse the FX barrel shot.
We both ended up not using them and mine is currently just taking up space on my workbench.
Fredrick has, supposedly, been making continuous improvements on the smooth twist barrels and the newest generation is , supposedly, much better at long range. Supposedly!
I have a couple of lines on getting the latest generation 30 cal smooth twist barrel and I want to see how it does on my 30 R3 long.
I donβt expect it to shoot any better than the stock LW barrel on my 30 but, I have to give it a try, just in case!
I will definitely agree they are one of the top barrels along with the LW match, BSA, CZ, Green Mountain, several more, etc. Anything more than that, though, is faith based. Just don’t run out and buy one to improve on the LW match barrel on an Edgun. FX is very careful to make only one real claim about the ST barrel in their video.
Think it’s well proved smooth twist work well in high power air guns not so good in low powered although the newer sub12 fx in the U.K. Market lads have great results even the admin on the daystate forum claims his smooth twist fx sub 12 is most accurate gun he’s owned seen a few put on to high power rapids over the years would I buy one prob not the extra fps they produce isn’t worth the extra cash in my eyes just try a unchocked barrel for the extra fps u gain but think it’s well proven it’s not just a gimmick

What BS?
I am not up to date as far as the outlandish market claims being put out.
I certainly don’t think that if you aren’t shooting a a smooth twist you are shooting second best.
My interest is in what a product will do for me and to that end my experience is that smooth twist are very accurate and issue free barrels.
I don’t see the issue as having to paint either traditional or smooth twist as the end all as to being best.
But I won’t tie my personal experience behind my back or let my bias explain away the stellar capabilities many are getting with their smooth twist barrels.
For example Bobcat .30’s seem to be printing very flier free groups and good accuracy right out of the gate. Edgun’s traditional rifled barrel seems to need some break in and makes quite a bit of lead debris initially.
Just a observation.
Yes – our “personal” experience doesn’t mean crap and there are plenty of opinions on the other side of this coin. There are even Youtube videos with FX owners that have had both ST and LW barrels in the same guns that say this is bogus. A billion dollar industry was created on personal claims that multi-vitamins cure or prevent cancer and that was proven bogus through scientific method just recently. This isn’t even close. It’s pure unadulterated B.S. until proven otherwise with scientific method. The burden is on those making the claims. If they can sell you on a little “personal” experience or even a couple of loaded matches on a huge claim like a “better” barrel then I have a bridge for sale for you. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid as MG would say.
I’d add that smooth twists have less leading issues as well and shoot better longer without cleaning.
As to the OP’s premise that a higher velocity or shot count being one of their benefits I’d say no. They are same/same in that regard.
Are you speaking from experience or personal opinion?
Powder burners aren’t necessarily going to be a good comparison to air rifles.
Nor is what was once going to not be able to be improved upon with further experimentation and perhaps even regulating the standard before it second place.
I do not have any scientific data but do have personal experience and a open mind.
Smooth twist barrels are for real and able to compete with top tier traditional rifling.
In my non scientific but non the less hands on experience of a couple examples their accuracy is spectacular and perhaps even be better as to spiraling/flier issues.
Pellets fickleness wise they seem to run neck and neck.
Its cow poo poo. If you want to prove it do a randomized double blind scientific study. Otherwise, its just anothe two-bit charlatans claim that was already disproven in the pb world.
Smooth twists aren’t a gimmick.
That doesn’t make them superior out of the gate to good quality traditional rifling.
Regardless of previous tries BT and FX seem to have figured it out.
From what I have seen velocity capabilities of the smooth twist is same/same with traditional and perhaps better than most as to fliers when approaching max speed for a given pellet.
Our current administration would love to do the same to us. It’s a real pain. π―
thanks ….
but i think STBs are accurate also… if you see the guys who they have FX guns …. Teds vid also for the bobcat was very interesting for me …. and let don’t forget brother Tedd’s vid also … it is really really awesome … :8: :8: :8: :8: :8:
No, at all,,, i don’t have any problem with my Matador R3M so far π π π π ,,,,, as i mentioned before i am a satisfied owner π π π π π …. it was just thinking of using a STB on Edgun or any-other guns… even i am thinking of using it on my Marauder in the future… but brother Secoda…. again i have a problem with importing it… because firearms and airguns or gun accessories are restricted by government,,, even for buying pellets i worked hard till i could get the permission…
thanks ….

It’s a gimmick and an old one at that. They were testing smooth twist and progressive twist barrels in PBs a hundred years ago through modern times. It was pretty well proven that they didn’t especially help or hurt accuracy but were novel. I would have thought by now just about every common airgun would have tried a Smooth Twist barrel. I would say that if your current barrel has a problem and you don’t mind spending the money to get one custom machined for it – then go for it. π They aren’t really expensive. If you plan on cranking up your airgun really hot or real low – you may hit some limitations with the ST barrels.

To be fair all barrels have good and bad ,the barrel brand you cant say is better than the other barrel just like 2 brands of barrel arnt forced to like the same brand of pellet all depends how tight choke is ect seen lw barrels what wouldnt group at 30 yard new from theoben all depends on the indivdual barrel some brands are less fussy than others ie older bsa ect but his is due to how light the choke is best barrel i ever had on a rapid was a off cut off a mates bsa blank he machiened up and would fire all brand of pellets accuratly lother walther do have a great reputation in producing top end barrels tho theoneon my cricket is extremly accurate not sure if its fussy yet as only tried jsb kings through it just waiting on a delivery of polymag to try through it Atvb dave g
