Q:

Sound Levels (dB’s)

Looking for the sound levels of both the .22 and .25 measured about 2 ft from end of barrel.

Some say the 25 is backyard friendly and some say it isn’t. Measurements would help users make a decision.

Between my cricket and the Vulcan it’s no question to me that the Vulcan is quieter. Cricket had this swoosh sound that carries. Vulcan sound seems to just die not to far from muzzle. Someone did his homework on the shroud

I squeezed off a few rounds with my new .25 in my backyard yesterday…….Granted, this is my first PCP, but I was amazed at the low report of my Vulcan. Much quieter than my Diana 34 springer. Houses in my neighborhood are 5 yds. apart….in the privacy of my fenced in back yard, the thud of the .25 hitting a 2 x 6 and the twang of the hammer were the loudest. My yard is only 25 yards, corner to corner. I had my wife squeeze off a round while I stood near my target, and I could barely hear the report of the gun! While she was inside, she could not hear me firing off any shots. I don’t think I’ll have any problems if I play in moderation…….. 😎

Glad to hear that the .25 is backyard friendly means that more folks will get what they want and they will be HaPpY :ugeekn: .

Oakey, we both know that sound is a subjective matter without the use of some sort of electronic measuring device, but I made my purchase knowing that if it were too loud, I would soon be looking to the aftermarket to get it right for my needs.

Damn, I love this gun! Can’t wait to get home from work and bust a few more Sparrows. Got six off of my tube feeder with 2″ perches yesterday. It’s almost unfair! Once comfortable, I’ll be stretching out my distances…..

The .22 is backyard friendly. Keyser Soze is working on an upgraded shroud as we speak. So brighter days are ahead. I can t comment on the .25 but as far as I am concerned .22 is a go. Most .25 are borderline for backyard friendly. Just too much air required to move that big pellet. Help is needed or a tuning down.

Look at the bottom 10 lines of this article about the .25 . That guy measured 106 dB at 3 feet from the muzzle, same as the Edgun, Cricket was 104 dB.

I also tried to determine the noise of the .22 and .25 Vulcans for backyard shooting.
When I read the comments on the different forums, I decided that the .25 is not backyard friendly for MY backyard (houses all around, 30-50 yards from where I shoot), but the .22 is.
Several have said that the impact noise of the .22 is louder than the rifle report, that suits me. The .25 seems significantly louder, which I do not feel comfortable with.

Andy H. on the yellow forum is working on a longer and quieter shroud, he posted about the mule/prototype. I don’t know if it is just for him, or if he will make more and sell them. That might be an option too.
