Q:

Sub 12fpe section

The information and opinion submitted to this forum is undoubtedly both useful and entertaining but for me it can be a bit confusing. While the majority of postings originate in the non power regulated U.S.A. some is from the U.K. where our laws limit us to 12fpe. Not all the advice given here is therefore applicable to U.K. based rifles and it’s all too easy to get the ‘wrong end of the stick’ when seeking a solution to a U.K. based problem.

Would there be any support for a new section dedicated to sub-12fpe rifles where Brits and American low power shooters could pool their specific experience and knowledge?

I have a Talon SS .22 cal. setup for CO2 but am getting a large POI shift with not a lot of temperature change, 65 to 75 degrees moves the impact about 2″ high at 20 yards. I like the large shot count for CO2 but am wondering if switching to HPA and a micro valve tank would give me about the same number of shots (actually I would be happy with 200 shots per fill) as I will be hand pumping. I have the HPA tank that came with it but presently have no way to fill it. Can the hammer adjustment be turned down low enough to consitently get over 100 shots from a standard tank?

Thanks,
Garry

Thanks JKTOM but I’ll probably just fire up the Heavy 10 when I need something (currently looking at revised porting on the standard valve and a complete re design too.) You do n’t happen to know anything about Zetecs?

Jon

Hi joninwales, send me a msg if you are after any tuning or trick bits for your stealth. I’m in the UK

Hi all, First time owner of a petulant used Stealth that is currently undergoing obedience training. I’m very familiar with sporting firearms and airguns for plinking, hunting and target shooting. Being in the UK I’m interested in this segment.

Good luck with your endeavour

Jon

it’s nice to see this thread has had more action than I expected! I wonder… if the sub-12 section ever kicks off… there could be two more tabs- benchrest, and field target… oh- three. hunter field target… Those are very competitive at sub-12…. :2cents:

It’s a shame the Dave hasn’t given anymore hints in addition to the .20s he listed, I’d really be interested in a wider variety of choices.
On another note, though…….it’s the end of November and this strand has had 1000 reads! Clearly there are interested shooters out there who are reticent about joining the discussion. Come on Guys and Gals. Being sub 12fpe doesn’t make you a bad person; put your two cents-worth in!!

Where are you finding all these .20s Dave? When I search for this calibre on any search engine I come up empty most times except for the 3 major players as mentioned in Caboose’s posts. I’ll add Sheriden’s ‘Blue Streak’ to the list but I’ll stand by my previous statement that , in the UK, .20 is in it’s infancy and out of the reach of most pockets.

Then u have stealth .20 builds also falcon .20 Titan .20 the list is endless tbh

There’s also a big following in .20 spring guns then custom crosman builds ect also a massive following in high power .20 of 975 ect give bucket boy a pm sure he will give u plenty of numbers ect at high power on the rapid forum

True, but as Libra56 has stated, those are the only companies really offering .20. They also do run into some cash as he also stated. I was wondering how the MAJORITY of shooters felt about .20, seeing as how not everyone can afford a theoben, weihrauch or daystate. I belong to a Rapid7 forum, and they do indeed love the .20!! In sub 12 that is. Over that, the .22 has it due to a much better selection of pellets.

.20 is far from rare also the Theoben and daystate boys love the cal with now hw joining in on the action with the .20 hw100

I77 sub 12 will go through a roof faster than any cal a 177 sub 12 us about 800 fps u want heavy .22 or a .25 for shooting in side buildings

If you have a chrony, that’s easy- just take a nice day and top off… then (this is the boring part) shoot until mostly empty. Keep checking on the PSI, and that should give you a nice idea of where your sweet spot is…

I am sort of ending up with the lower power due to refilling problems. I will probably refill to 2500 psi, but I am looking for what lower level I should shoot to (in theory anyway). Maybe 1500, or would that be too low.

I am waiting on a Spin-loc, so I will have a gauge.

.20 is pretty rare all-around then. No wonder about the prices of pellets! I’d still like to try it out- I’ll build a .20 sub 12 fpe rifle and let you guys know… I’ve been wanting one for a while now! Thanks for all the help!
