Q:

Talon results after adding 18" barrel

Hello guys, Ive added an 18″ barrel that was machined by someone on another forum.

Here is my string using 15.9 JSB’s

start pressure 3000 end pressure 2400

979.0
987.8
984.1
981.0
978.4
979.4
973.2
970.4
969.7
966.6
971.0
964.6
963.6
933.7
957.3
951.5
951.8
952.5
948.7
944.5
948.0
944.8
943.7
944.7
933.5
938.0
933.5
935.1
929.0
932.2

Seems like 30 good shots to me. Using chairgun pro, taking the highest of 987.8 and the last shot of 932.2, there is only a 1/2″ diffrence in POI at 75 yards.

Ive managed to get an AWESOME scope off evilbay. The only markings are 6-24×50 IR Etch

Im hopefully going shooting tomorow after I buy a new pump. Should be able to get some 50 yard groups

Also should be going lamping rabbits this friday with my brother who, annoyingly, has got a .17HMR. I will leave the longer range ones to him and the closer ones I should get a go at.

Pictures of the rifle and scope to come

Urm, not sure if eotech make rifle scopes but Im sure liking this one 😀

Got a 24″ .25 BSA barrel coming :D:D:D

Dave

nice set up…

could the scope be an EO Tech?

BalooUk,

‘ow far oooop north is tha??

😉 😉 😉

Dave,

Can i ask where you got the modified valve spring retainer from or did you make it yourself?

Thanks

Yeah, I’d have to open up the hole in end cap, I just like the way it looks..then get a long tapered silencer ……neat! Do post pix of your gun….

Thanks, I have turned a muzzle cap which really makes it look a lot better.

Yes you can run the 18″ barrel with no modifications but your frame endcap hole would have to be bigger so that the barrel would fit through it,

I might post up some more pics of my gun

Dave

I am ADMIRING your gun…I really really like the look….since you’ve chnaged to an 18″ barrel let me ask you…Can I just run the 18″ barrel through the shroud , leave the end cap on and just run the longer barrel right through it..and then of course add a moderator??? is that how most guys do it? I’m new so I have to ask 😳 😳 I looked ALL through that “quick reference” seciton but didn’t find an answer to that question….so, what’s the scoop? had gun like 2 weeks, already wanting to chage stuff on it 🙄

haha im sure Voltar can find something 😀

Dave

quote dave_424:

I cant complain for the price I got it for.

Dave

There is always room to complain. Just ask Voltar 😛

Thanks man, it was really pot luck because I had no idea about what the reticle looked like.

I would like it if it had milldots however I cant complain for the price I got it for.

Dave

😯 Nice reticle on that scope, no mil dots but I still like it, it would make a very nice bench rest scope!! 😯

Nice setup!

Oh no, Im such a noob 🙁

I thought that my silencer was clipping because the rifle was vibrating quite a bit. Also noticed that my scope was kind of hard to zero.

Turned out that the rear scope mount that clamps to the rails, was loose and I mean LOOSE. Not even finger tight, not even snug.

ANYWAY Ive cranked them down and should be able to do a re-test in the next few days

Seems like I forgot my checks when things weren’t going smoothly

Dave

After playing about with silencers, the one in the pic is 50mm and have decided to go with a 40mm aluminium tube 250mm long with a 2mm wall. The design will have a large chamber half the length of the silencer and multiple baffles from half way to the front.

Should be nice and quiet

Dave

Correct, the end cap should not touch the barrel.

I always thought that the front cap should’nt touch the barrel because it should be floating from the front bushing. It would be a pain in the ass for my to make one the correct ID for a close fit because the bushings have been pressed onto the barrel and there is a sleve at the front to provide the 1/2″ UNF threads because the threads are bigger than the OD of the barrel

Im trying ot decide weather to make a large aluminium silencer or a shroud. I kind of dont like shrouds because the look too plain and boaring where a large aluminium silener looks a lot better.

Here I did a mock up with a .223 silencer just resting in front of the barrel
