Q:

Talon results after adding 18" barrel

Hello guys, Ive added an 18″ barrel that was machined by someone on another forum.

Here is my string using 15.9 JSB’s

start pressure 3000 end pressure 2400

979.0
987.8
984.1
981.0
978.4
979.4
973.2
970.4
969.7
966.6
971.0
964.6
963.6
933.7
957.3
951.5
951.8
952.5
948.7
944.5
948.0
944.8
943.7
944.7
933.5
938.0
933.5
935.1
929.0
932.2

Seems like 30 good shots to me. Using chairgun pro, taking the highest of 987.8 and the last shot of 932.2, there is only a 1/2″ diffrence in POI at 75 yards.

Ive managed to get an AWESOME scope off evilbay. The only markings are 6-24×50 IR Etch

Im hopefully going shooting tomorow after I buy a new pump. Should be able to get some 50 yard groups

Also should be going lamping rabbits this friday with my brother who, annoyingly, has got a .17HMR. I will leave the longer range ones to him and the closer ones I should get a go at.

Pictures of the rifle and scope to come

If there is any flex that should take care of it.

No it doesnt at the moment, when I get my lathe back, I will make one myself.

Dave

just wondering does the frame have a cap on it were the barrel exits

Not that I can tell anyways, the barrel OD is 12mm

The Air Arms Xtra has a similar sized barrel.

Dave

do u get any barrel flex that u can tell with that diameter barrel. It just looks skinny to me.

Right guys I have some groups for you, im still in the early stages in getting used to the gun so I hope groups will tighten

Shooting 15.9 JSB’s and Kodiaks at 40 yards

This is a 5 shot group with kodiaks with a pellet for scale

This is a comparison between the JSB’s and Kodiaks, Looks like the JSB’s are better. However I did pull one of the JSB shots. With a 5 pence piece for scale

This is two three shot groups when I was zeroing with the JSB’s when I was really concentrating.

Im not free now until the weekend but will definatley stretch this baby out the 50 and 75 yards to see what she can do

Dave

Kodiaks are going about 940-900 over 20 shots.

Dave

Ok since you don’t have a PW just see how it shoots before you adjust anything. I bet the Kodiaks will shoot better at higher speeds. How fast are the Kods going with the 18 inch barrel?

Thanks for the intrest guys, I’m using a custom delrin valve seal and a modified spring retainer, I also do not have the o-ring mod.

Lee, i was really surprised at the scope when it arrived, I got it for £50 of evilbay and there was only a brief description. There is no makers marks as far as I can tell. The only markings are 6-24×50 Etch. I did a slight search and it looks like the scope is made by rhino. However I can’t find the scope that I bought, however I do know that I am in absolute love with it and would buy another

Dave

Dave, I’m liking those fine cross hairs on that scope what model is it? Do you know if they come in mil-dots?

This is with a modified and fully flowing spring retainer.

I dont have a PW because Im from the UK and really cannot be bothered to take out the barrel again. I gurss Im lazy 😀

Will post up some 50m groups tomorow

Dave

Looks good so far….but lets see how she shoots before we make any conclusions. 🙂

If you lower your PW a little and keep the 3,000psi fill you will get more shots per fill.

Looking good Dave this is with your vavle mod new delrin pressed on peice with shortened spring retainer? if so your speeds are great I might want you to make me a new valve stem you also did the o ring mod to the threaded brass keeper correct? If you get a chance let me know I am watching you I told you I would thanks also for the pm!

HAHA all in good time, the barrel is from a Parker Hale Dragon that were only made for 18 months. There are numerous reviews about the gun being the most accurate they have in their collection.

Sounds good to me 🙂

Dave

Looks nice.
Now post some groups dammit.. 😆
