I have a 22 cal talonSS I’m shooting one CO2. “Very” accurate….. Will switching to a 117 barrel give me more FPS? Change the accuracy? Anyone? Thanks Brian
A new 22 or 25 barrel I understand and I was just thinking that a new tank to go with the upgrade. It is the other things that this new one does not know, hammer, or springs,or other things? I would most likely go with a 18″ barrel for the upgrade to make this worth my time and money as I could just as well load a 22 CB or something in some of my other rifles to do the pest control I need.

A 177 barrel. and possibly the valve spring in bottle. to go from 22 back to 177
There is a valve in the air tank that opens when the trigger is pulled , the hammer falls and hits the top hat, opens this valve and lets the air out of the tank for the shot.
There is a spring that holds this valve shut , when there is no air in the tank etc. this spring is stronger for the 177 supposedly. so when you shoot 177 with this spring in the 22 tank gun, the valve can dump the air out of the tank when shooting 177 due to the greater back pressure of the 177 bore size.
but i think you would be fine with a oring under the top hat for this, have not done this , so not completely sure. but you can change this spring if it does not work.
I have had valve dump twice, one time the nut that holds the spring in the bottle tight backed off at around 1000 shots and the air dumped when the air in the tank had been shot down quite a bit.
the next time was using 32 grain pellets in the 22 with the spring in the bottle backed way off,without an o’ring behind the top hat, these heavy pellets create back pressure similar to a 177 when the spring pressure is low that holds the valve shut .put the o’ring back, and no problems
i , (when tuning my condor) and polishing the valve for best airflow, just barely have the spring tensions set to barely close the valve with teflon tape on the threads so that the nut cannot move. so i assume that the spring pressure for the valve in the air tank would be similar if not lighter than the 177 set up.
this is why i think that you cold just put a 177 barrel in your gun, and an o’ring behind the top hat and be fine.
to go from 177 to 22 you can just add a 22 barrel , but power would be low.
to go from 177 to 22/25 with full power, you would need bigger valve in tank,lighter valve spring in tank,added hammer weight, larger caliber barrel.

Yes Illinois sucks and we have a “few bad firearm laws” but stuck here for a few more years and I just follow the law. So what do I need to turn this .177 I have into a 22 or 25?

you know, i have been wanting to set my condor up in 177 since i bought it, just for kicks.
i have only had 177 spring guns in the past, went with 22 in the condor of course , power plant pretty much begs for 22 if not 25, but i dont need 25 power , i can turn up the 22 for more than i need , and can run it at 500 fps if i want for indoor, so really , dont need it it 177.
just kind of curious to see what i could do with a field target set up in 177 with my condor
My first Talon SS came as a 22, with a spare 177 barrel. When I swap in the 177 barrel, I also put in a lighter hammer, and generally have to turn it down to get it below the 1K FPS mark. Once in its sweet spot, it will drill 10M bulls one after the other, and pushing out to 30 yards, it still stacks them. I have taken tree rats at 40 – 45 yards with it in 177, but in 22 that range stretches out to the 70 yard mark. Damn accurate guns when you find the fll sweet spot, and proper power wheel setting for the pellets it likes. Doesn’t hurt it’s damn quiet when turned down to proper 17 velocities either.

It used to be .18 or 700fps then changed to .18 and 700fps LOL—— back 30 yrs when I got my R1 it was not anything———–fast forward to now it is the stupid law that is changing. I’s life and well FUN.

I have a talon ss in .177 it is damn accurate. I have no issues with mine and is very fun for pesting and does just fine making head shots very easy.
I will be shooting paper and small pests at about 25 yrs and under, and think it will go good with my R1 [that has a little to big report that the i like for the backyard]. I will upgrade it to a 22 or 25 later when funds let me. I have called around and nobody has then near me so the internet is the way to go—————BUT my state anything bigger than .18 and 700fps is a firearm and has to go thru a FFL So a .177 is on order and will have it soon.

the cb cap is an option , i have tried them extensively before getting into the more expensive air rifles, problem is the accuracy is dismal at best .
the problem is the rifling twist rates, unless you have an early gallery gun with proper twist rates for the light cb cap bullets .

accuracy would be similar , or be the same situation, you would have to find a 177 pellet that performed with that barrel at the velocity that you were achieving.
not sure on what the velocity difference would be, i would say the velocity would raise due to the light pellets, if you were using a lighter pellet, or so own
