Q:

Talon SS Newly modded valve shot string opinion PLEASE!!!!

Guys,
Just moded my 12″ Talon SS using the mod in the FAQ section. I messed with the TH adjustment and PW and did not get a decent shot string from 3000PSI so I upped the fill pressure to 3200 PSI and would like your opinion:

PW at zero! TH at .088″
3200PSI
JSB 15.9

Shot 1 822
844
873
873
869

837

833
832
827
829
824
823
820
Shot 30 818

Ending pressure: 2400 PSI

Thoughts? Why is it the PW and top hat seemd to have little change to the FPS?

Thanks

Mike

I wonder if there is a Condor conversion weight in there?

What does a stock Talon hammer weigh? I’m guessing its pretty light already, but yeah, thats one way of reducing the valve strike. I wouldn’t be surprised if his gauge is reading wrong and hes only filling to 2600 or so. If not, its a real head scratcher, how the hell is it maxing the valve out straight away? That kind of bottle pressure needs a hell of a whack to max it out. 😕 And hes got ZERO on the pw???
The valve spring must be VERY light for a start…..

So what Pab, he needs to lighten his hammer?

I gotta admit that I didn’t do much adjusting with my TSS. I got it to shoot 830 fps with 14.3gr Crosman Domed Hollow Points and left it there. That was plenty for rat hunting at short range.

Pack, the fact that the fps goes down from the get go means he has either not enough pressure or the pw is too high. Now the mystery is that he is already filling very high, AND has pw zero. If he reduces fill psi, it will do the same, he’ll just get less shots at lower fps.

He needs to INCREASE pressue, but he can’t hes already over filling. He needs to LOWER pw, but he can’t hes already at zero.

The fact that the shot string starts high and just goes down is indicative of too high fill pressure…OR not enough hammer strike..My TSS would get ~50 shots HI of 853 fps and Lo of 808 fps. pw @ 6.0 and T/H at 0.140″ Start pressure 2900psi..So, I’d recommend you go down on the fill psi..290, 2800,until you find the bell curve…Ideally it will start a little low, then gradually go up and then back down to ~the same psi as your starting shot….Going to higher start pressure is going to produce an initially LOWER fps in an unregulated PCP. Not familiar with the mod you mentioned I would suggest you go back and double check whatever was done….definitely something not right at this point….HTH.

Yeah grit, I agree, but hes not touched the rifle and as such I’d be happy. Once you get to tinkering then you should be a lot more fussy. Though now I’ve got a reg on mine, anything more than an sd of 6 is unacceptable 😎

I’m farting off 35 shots now ranging from 979 up to 983 😯 😎 😎 😎 😎 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Too busy trying to mend my hand plus was being too lazy to reply to this post, was relying on others… 😆
ZR, dunno why pw on zero is giving you the maxed out fps straight off, maybe you have some spacer/preload on the spring already??
3200 and pw on zero plus max fps from the get go doesn’t make much sense, unless the mod job on the valve plus maybe minimal tension on the valeve retaining spring is giving you that…? 😕

I can’t find a curve with my SS. IF thirty shots is considered a decent string…then I suppose the steady drop is acceptable. I was hoping for a higher shot count with mine.

Pab, I experienced the steady drop but I filled to 3,000 psi. I am going to try a higher fill pressure just to see if it slows down my first few shots. Also, another difference with mine is that I am using a condor valve spring retainer.

I don’t think his ES is acceptable. I always hope for an ES of 25 to 35.

How’s going ZR? How’s that TSS shooting?

Right on guys. I think that we just made another friend. 😀

Thanks WOK, Tony, Tron, Y, for giving us a place to meet; you’re the best!

Well on my gun i would say the PW was up too far, or you would need to fill it higher psi to get a better curve, more shots,

either leave it alone,

or if you want more shots, measure the top hat real good so you can go back to the same place. and turn the top hat down, it should slow things down some, then add pw , to see if you can get max fps with more shots.

You guys ROCK!!! Thanks for the advice!!!

I will let you know how she performs with some real world targets (maybe some pests as well)

There ya go ZR! Enjoy that TSS! Let us know how it goes. 😀

i set up a TSS for a guy here in town and for what ever reason his was the same way ..I was getting the best numbers with 0 on the PW….thats a fine looking string…Greg

Yes Steve, numbers are looking good!!??

Just can’t see why his set up is doing that!

But yes, I should of said, I’d be happy with that. As Steve’ says, go out and shoot something…. 😆 😆

Ya, but the numbers look good, right Pab? I don’t care how he set it up, for a 12″ barrell shooting 16 grain pellets, that’s pretty good isn’t it?
