Q:

Talon vs. Condor

Ok, I have read sooooo much information, that my brain is on overload. I am torn between a Talon and a Condor. Here is what I will be doing with it. I live in a track home in southern california. I do have a side yard that I shoot from. Its a 10 yard range. I also shoot them damn flying rats (pigions) all the time. I sometimes also go out to the local indian reservation and shoot with them, Mostly squirrels and such out to 100yrds.

Based on your experience, which should I get – Talon or Condor????

Any light you guys can share on my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Chris 😀

I agree with Akula on this one. I bought a Talon SS mostly for its reputation as a quiet shooter. That was important as I live in a suburban area. The power of the SS is good at 800 fps with Crosman Premier domed hollow points. I do want a Condor, and am saving my nickles and dimes for one.

I do not like the idea of taking a good shooter and converting it to another configuration, and then back again. If it works, then don’t fix it. But that is just my .02 cents. I’m sure that whatever AF gun you choose, you will be happy. If you’re not, there is always Tony at TalonTunes who will make it purr like a kitten.

More Power = More Fun. Get the Condor. 8) 8)

He didnt list the SS as one of his choices. If it was between a Condor and Talon SS for backyard shooting I would go with the SS all the way.

JW,

Why the high flow kit? I know the 24″ barrel by itself won’t give you the power of a condor, but won’t it work for up to 100 yard squirrel hunting?

To get the power of the Condor, otherwise it isn’t the same thing… Even without it the CondorSS is still only $33 more and more powerful as well…

With a 12″ barrel the Talon just doesn’t cut it at 50 yards, well at least my Talon doesn’t cut it… I was doing fine with another rifle but not the TalonSS.

Knife, you have a modded valve and an LDC which is more $$ on the pile of the TalonSS… Unless you got them both for under $33…

I just figure that with the extra umpf from the Condor the 12″ barrel will perform a touch better than the Talon, so at 35 yards, silent (read 12″ barrel) the Talon is beginning to lose its breath… Where the Condor is probably a touch better considering a stiffer frame and the larger valve, in .22 cal of course…

Hey Syn! Wish I had seen those numbers when I first bought my talon SS. But it’s all good! I just keep hearing about people having trouble with consistency with the Condors. Or is this only with the old valve? Is shot count as bad as they say with the condor? I still would like to try the condor valve. I am very happy with the modded SS valve.

Yes, You can kill squirrel at 100 yds with a set up SS. Mine has the 18″ .22 Bbl. added, with LDC, and modded valve. It will blow through a squirrel at 100 yds. and then some. Just got to learn the trajectory!

Hi All!
This is my first post here.
My name is Bruce, and I live in Houston, Tx.

I am trying to make this same decision now. I have talked to Tony at Talon Tunes and he thinks The best for me is a Talon SS with a 18″ barrel. Of course I want him to do the mods and make a custom shroud. By the time I get this all done it’s going to cost a bit over $1,000. including shipping. Then scope, mount and air tank. There is so much to consider!

Are there any other members in the Houston area?
I am having to decide on an air tank, so do I get a used al 80, or a steel 110?
If I wanted to use a Carbon Fiber tank where could I get a 4500 PSI fill?
I talked to a welding supply salesman I know about high pressure nitrogen
and for small bottles they are only filled to 1800 PSI. I could rent a 400CF tank which would be filled to 6000PSI, ( 70.00 for the fill ), but I would then have to purchase a regulator for around $300. and ……….. That would likely be air (gas) to last a year or so!

UGGG! I am pulling out my hair!, Oh, I don’t have any hair LOL

Unless you don’t plan on shooting past 35 yards, EVER, get the CONDOR!!!!

35 yards???????

My Talon SS works fine well past 35, I have shot crows, pigeons, and starlings past 50 yrds with good stopping power.

JW,

Why the high flow kit? I know the 24″ barrel by itself won’t give you the power of a condor, but won’t it work for up to 100 yard squirrel hunting?

So y’all are going to make me run the numbers…
This should put this thing to rest once and for all.

TalonSS- $474
24″ barrel- $181
Hi-Flow Tank Kit- $189
Total->$844

Condor- $560
12″ barrel- $113
Endcap- $15
Total->$688

This doesn’t include the hammer mod to get the striking weight correct to get the most from the Hi-Flo tank in the TalonSS…

As you can see making a CondorSS from a Condor is far cheaper than making a Condor from a TalonSS..

Unless you don’t plan on shooting past 35 yards, EVER, get the CONDOR!!!!

I should know, i’m paying the expensive way of getting everything I need from one rifle…

Just get a condor and have it all. power to spare, accurate, and quiet with a right mod. really, it’s the only mod you’d need…unless you are picky like me 🙂
but then again…for your small yard it’s gonna be a pure overkill, no matter what you shoot at.
if you change your mind one day, just sell that 24″ barrel, buy a 12″ barrel, end cap, and have a condor ss.

Ok, I’m in the same situation as kojak so this topic is of interest to me.

If he is MAINLY shooting at 10 yards in his yard and at pigeons, what is the advantage of paying $85 more for the condor and then paying to have it converted back into an SS? He can buy a 24″ barrel for it for the occasional squirrel hunt, if need be.

Not trying to argue or rehash the Poll thread a couple of messages down from here, but just get some education before I make a final decision.

With a 12″ barrel on the Condor you get quiet but not so accurate at 100 yards…

Having said that I think the CondorSS in .22 cal would out do the TalonSS in .22 cal at 100 yards…

Go for the Condor and a 12″ barrel… .22 cal of course.

I wish I would have… 😉

Changing barrels is a snap, really!

My other thought was, Do I really need all that power???

My circumstances are close to your and I was having the same dilemma until I actually shot a condor. Those things are damn loud!. If you are mainly shooting from your yard, you’ll probably get the cops called on you shooting a condor unless there’s already a lot of gunfire in your neighborhood.

You could buy the condor and do the mods to have it quieted down if you have the time and skill or money, but to start shooting out of the box, it might be a bit much.

If I had to make a choice between those two I would pick the Condor. The Condor has a longer shroud than the Talon. You could always convert your Condor into an SS version for a short, quiet gun if you wanted to.
