Ted’s Latest Bobcat/Pigeon Video

What might be significant is that Ted has gone full circle and mounted his Hawke Sidewinder back on to the Bobcat for pesting/hunting. :biggrinn: He even takes a finishing shot at about 7 yards that would be impossible or less than optimal with many of these FFP and 50 yard parallax PB scopes. Great to see Ted back to these hunting videos. Don’t get suckered into $800-1000+ scopes (Nikon, Bushnell, Vortex, etc.) when a $500 or less scope (Hawke, MTS, Falcon, Aeon) may be more appropriate for the situation. ๐Ÿ˜‰

HOOT as long as you can still get hard, life is good. ๐Ÿ™‚ Age is nothing but a number.

I’m still trying to figure Ted out. Did he drop the Edgun for political reasons or does he just like change? Bobcat looks very promising but I’m not ready to jump ship.

I am slowly coming back to life. I overdid it yesterday, and spent the next 19 hours in bed with ice and drugs before I could move. Today I had to admit to myself that it takes six to eight weeks to regain a semi-normal daily routine of activities when you lose a knee.

Per the Bobcat…didn’t we determine it is more of a crossover between a bull pup and a carbine…no serviceable name comes to mind, but it does seem to address some of the shortcomings of a pure bull pup.

I’ve never shot one, but it seems it could lose some weight in that seemingly bulky stock. I like the “bolt forward” design, as is showing up on the Colibri, Hatsan, and will likely will show itself on other models as well.

A good scope is a good scope…and all a good scope ever does is let you hit what you aim at.

There are two certainties in this hobby, for the outspoken among us…you’ll never make a statement that doesn’t contradict someone’s perspective, and never a year goes by that we don’t see changes in design that lights someone ‘s fire, while igniting someone else’s rage.

So it is…we are “brothers” in this hobby, and brothers occasionally fight! It’s a healthy sign. What fun would it be if we all agreed on everything?

Meanwhile, I sit here in a pleasant drug induced haze, my dog on my lap licking his balls, watching the world go to hell in a hand basket on the nightly news. Seventy one years and I now accept that this is as good as it will get for me. At least I got a new knee out of the deal!

Kind regards

I should of been a little more detailed trashing the Hawke 8-32×56

Out of the box, the scope looked like a refurb. The quality of the glass is only fair up to 16x and beyond that it looks like fog. You can forget about the highest power setting, total shit. The illuminated reticle vignettes and is almost useless during the day. Knobs feel like mud when adjusting. Also not a fan of the SFP.

I decided to find something better and not break the bank. I settled with SWFA SS 10x and couldn’t be happier. I’m currently running a SWFA SS 5-20 illuminated on my Edgun .22. Yes double the price but blows the Hawke to shit in every aspect.

I have a couple of Hawke scopes and I am very happy with them. There are three things about them tha make them ideal for pesting with my Edguns. 1) the 20x ultra fine 1/2 mill dot reticle 2) the very short range focus and 3) they hold their POI. I own a number of scopes but for me the Hawke is the right tool for my pcp needs.

I wouldn’t strap a piece of shit Hawke on my cock if my life depended on it. Garbage ass scope product.

Ted has a video about it on his website. Custom mount built for him and he had to epoxy a threaded piece to his camera to get it mounted.

How about giving your TAG friends some more details about the camera mount?

I’m hoping the answer is a link where I can just buy one? I have that camera in the 100 version and they have the same physical dimensions so…..

Thanks,

My brother lives right by Vortex in Middleton and has a few of them on Varmint PBs. Do you know if they will custom adjust the parallax for you?

Oddly enough – despite living 20 miles from Vortex Headquarters, I acquired your answer in Germany at the IWA show while speaking with Terry Shamus – Vortex international sales manager. Terry told me that Vortex has plans to create an ‘a la carte’ ordering system – comparable to U.S. Optics. He couldn’t offer any details re: timeline or price, but did say that the wheels are already in motion.

Hi guys.
What do you thing about Falcon menace FFp scope 4-14×42 or 5-25×50 comparativ with Hawke tactical series ?
I want to change my scope this summer and I cant make a choice.
Thank you and sorry for thread hijack.

I was itching very bad for the swfa but didnโ€™t like the limited zoom. I know I don’t hunt or pest past 15 x but for paper punching once in a while I decided not to. All the other ones are getting too big, heavy and Expensive

I really like the Hawke scope, but I’ve always tried to change it to something better glass, and this scope would not be a good choice, begins 6 meters, has anyone tried this scope, I could only see some review and speak well of it.

The SWFA 3-15 is a great air rifle scope if you’re in the market for an FFP/mil/mil offering. Pretty good glass (better than Hawke IMO), turrets track and repeat very well, 3-15 is a good mag range, and it does offer 6Y minimum parallax. The reticle works but isn’t my favorite IMO.

I tried both an SWFA 3-15 FFP and Bushnell 3-12 FFP with the G2DMR reticle on my Edgun and stuck with the Bushnell simply for the reticle. I missed the extra 3x magnification on the top end the SWFA offered but I much preferred the G2DMR reticle on the Bushnell. The Bushnell offers 10Y minimum parallax; while not quite as good as the 6Y on the SWFA it’s still very acceptable for air rifle use IMO. Bushnell also has a new 3-12 x 44 LRHS now that offers 7Y parallax, a modified G2DMR reticle, and a 10 mil elevation knob with a zero stop. I have 2 on order and should be receiving them any day. They’re supposed to release a 4-16 x 50 version late this year.

Well that makes sense now. Hadn’t seen that video on Bobcat adjustability. Nice option. I humbly retract my second statement ๐Ÿ™‚

Cool. I like where someone can walk my scope into the companies front door if there is an issue. I am lucky enough to live within ten miles of one of Browning’s firearm repair centers and had a barrel replaced for free out of warranty while I waited in the front of the center. ๐Ÿ˜€

When I spoke with Leupold about a year ago they were charging $25 for the parallax adjustment. They could also reset it later on.

No head holding. ๐Ÿ˜† My woods start at exactly 50 yards behind my house where 98% of my airgun shooting occurs. By far most shots are 50 yards or under with an occasional shot a lot farther. That said I know of a group using competition PBs with Hawke Sidewinders for steel silhouettes at 1250 yards – go figure. I also always use a laser rangefinder for long shots and will be prairie dog shooting in about a month in North Dakota. When you add factors together like price, parallax setting, videoing performance, reticle choice for the price, among others the scope choice becomes need specific. I even tested a Leupold that has been factory adjusted to a 25 yard parallax which they will do and it still didn’t have the under 50 yard performance of the Hawkes. ๐Ÿ™

Ok here is a question…
