Q:

Thinking about a Condor in .25 need input

I posted this question over on another site and thought I would ask the same thing here. I’ve been considering a Condor in .25 cal and curious as to the total weight with bipod and scope? Is it best to buy new and mod it myself or look for a well cared for used one that already has some mods done? What specific mods are considered essential and which are more up to the individual? I already have a Shoebox and Carbon tank for my other PCPs. Noise is not a factor out here at my farm. Any input would be great. Thanks

Always wanted to try one of those! 😉

An “O” ring behind the top hat would really tighten up the shot string posted by SLOW. (That and possible a good cleaning og the frame where the hammer rides). As it is, it’s all over the place. Far to wide a gap between FPS shot to shot posted on his string.

Thank you fotr the o-ring tip. And yes, the shot string is all over the place.
Being really new to modern airguns, I’m still learning the ropes. I think that a barrel-guided hammer is in order pretty soon as well.

The Bbl., that I’m using now is a 21″, any of the bbl’s will shoot at this velocity, only trouble is, I have to really shorten up the top hat setting to get that low. What will change, is the amount of air used with different length bbl’s.

That, and it is hard to get consistent shots at that low of a power level with the 21″ bbl. What finally worked was putting an “O” ring behind the top hat.

I’m getting apx 35-40 shots at 50 yard’s before a real shift, filled at 2500psi. At 80 yards, 30+ shots before a shift. A dial up of only one number on the power wheel will extend it to 40-45 at 80 yards, while keeping the group right at 1″ and under in very low wind conditions.
I keep the power wheel at “8” normally. Of course, this will be different on individual guns.

Sam,

here’s a recent shot string from my 12″ barrel:

Stubby extreme .25, starting pressure 2800 psi, tophat set at 0.088, pw at 8, JSB Exact Kings 25.4 gr

After 20 shots the velocity drops rapidly. The gun would be hotter with more preload on the hammer spring, but would loose on the shot count.
This works just fine for me.

It’s kinda important to remember that that the JSB’s tend to give the best accuracy in the 850 to 920 FPS range, with the 880 fps being the Gold standard for them when looking for pinpoint accuracy.

So going to a shorter barrel., really is no handicap at all. Other than loosing a few shots. GO FOR IT!!! 😀 😉

Mike are you getting 880FPS from a 12″ barrel?

B.F. I have experience with a 24″ .22 Cal. and a 24″ .25 Cal. THERE IS a definate difference. As said above, if you’re a tinkerer buy new/stock and mod. If not call Tony. He did mine and he is the best (in my biased opinion) His quality and attention to detail is second to none. Others may come close. No one surpasses. Also WOKS parts are the shit. (Although he likes to blow camels 😯 )

A 12″ barrell is a reasonable option, especially if you’re not looking for great shot count and prefer a more compact rifle.

My .25 TSS with R&L Extreme valve gives 20 shots in the 870 to 900 fps range. JSB Exact Kings, 2800 psi fill. So 42+ fpe. But even with ten baffles it will never be backyard quiet.

Im sorely tempted to go with a 16″+ barrel and a big shroud..

will post a picture with numbers by the end of this week for you .22 condor 12″ barrel internal baffels 980fps with baracudas thats 45 fpe stock

I have an 18″ barrel and get 30 shots over a 880-910-880fps spread with JSB’s 25.4 grains. I only use 550 psi for that too!

That’s well within acceptable limits for close range. I’m starting to get a picture of what I would like my ultimate Condor to look like.

you do the math i figure 40-45 fpe with kodiaks

So the short barrel idea sounds workable. What kind of velocities could I expect out of 12-16 inches of barrel? I really wouldn’t be expecting super high velocities but for closer shooting maybe up to 50 yards what might be normal?

That is starting to sound very interesting. I really like the idea of an ultra short carbine style thumper.

16-18″ should do pretty well, it does so on daystates and theobens so why not AF guns…heck i was considering dumping a 12″ into my SS and see what it would do 😉
