This sucks
I had a visitor today at my huose. It was the county animal control officer. she got a report that I shot a pigion(flying rat) yesterday. I told her I did. She said I cant do that. I said I am sorry and she gave me other ways to keep the pigions away. I said I will look into those and thanks for the suggestions. She was pretty cool about the whole thing. So she just gave me a warning. nothing written or anything.
To me other suggestions would have been, shoot from the back yard or wear a gillie suit and camaflage real good. LOL
Well I guess I will have to be way more descrete it my next shooting experience. I talked to all my neighboors and they are anti pigion. It must have been the new people that just moved in across the street.
Well just thought I would vent.

To ‘take anything with fur or feathers’ you need a license (yes, silly as it sound to trap a mouse in your kitchen….). Even on your own land. This means Hunter Education class where you learn this good stuff. Even if it’s legal to hunt in the city limits (highly unlikely), the regulations also include ‘the 150 yard rule’. You need the permission of the owners of any house or outbuilding that might be occupied within 150 yards. This alone makes shooting pigeons under most conditions a bust. Even if you have a license.
And as has been said, no shooting from or across any public road, nor from a motor vehicle.
BTW, Doves are illegal to shoot with an airgun under “any” conditions. They’re migratory so Federal rules count, shotgun only (and in season).

Hey Doug where’s the “pretty end”? I live in the heart of the S.J. Valley. Lucky for me this is still mostly farm land.
For sport, I’ve had best luck with the sh*tbirds putting my shots in the vitals instead of the head. Headshots (mostly through the eye socket) are messier and slower. I had to rip off their heads with pruning shears to finish them off. A shot to the vitals puts them to sleep fast. At least with a 5mm Sheridan.
I can’t recommend the poisoned bird feed enough! The mass death around the ‘hood is priceless!
Throw out some poisoned bird feed. There’s always some old bat feeding them nearby. Find their feeding spot and let ‘er rip at a different hour.

Back in 1983, my 8th grade PE class had a 2 week unit on skeet shooting. They actually took us out to the range and taught us how to use shotguns and shoot skeet. If they tried that today, the administrators would be hung from the highest yardarm they could find.

Yes. The place is still real tightly knit, which is one of the things I love. The thing I love most is all the different ethnicities we have here in Hawaii. I am blessed to continue to experience it. Definitely adds volumes to the content of my life.

I remember doing a speech in high school on duck hunting. There I was walking through the hallways of my HS in my camo, decoys on my back, 12 guage in my hands. One of my coaches/teachers walks by “hey thats not loaded is it” I rack the pump to the open chamber “no sir” “alright, keep the action open” end of discussion.

When I as a kid we could do the same stuff. No hassles. Damn.. the Country has gone to Hell in a hand basket. 🙁

The times are changing. I remember when I was a kid I would carry my bb-pellet rifle to my friends house and we would walk to the fields carrying are rifles and shoot things. People would mind their own business. Now So Cal is so crowded most of the fields are gone and people are paranoid of guns. My neighbors are nice but I shoot very discreetly. Hey Guys thanks for all your support. I was using an RWS 34, I cant wait to get my Talon SS and mod. Then shoot them from Cover.
I have a neighbor who likes feeding tree rats because their cute. She found a couple dead lately. 🙄 I suggested that the feed might be bad. She didn’t notice the bloody holes! She stopped putting out food.

damed Liberals!!! old hippies aren’t usually a problem. for the most part, they don’t give a flying rats-ass. But Yuppies are another storry. Very Palosie, and Hillery’ esk. If she wins, we won’t be allowed to own any kind of gun. Hell. Even rubber band guns will be out-lawed!!!

The centerline of population is a bit below Santa Barbara. Merced is North of that, in a part of the state that doesn’t have to take water from the North to survive.
In fact I was just down your way Friday with a bud after some of the local ground squirrels. You’ve got young coming up already, while we here closer to the coast have cooler weather and the young are still underground.
I live in the SF bay area, and therefore have to drive a bit to get to places to hunt….like where you live.
