This sucks
I had a visitor today at my huose. It was the county animal control officer. she got a report that I shot a pigion(flying rat) yesterday. I told her I did. She said I cant do that. I said I am sorry and she gave me other ways to keep the pigions away. I said I will look into those and thanks for the suggestions. She was pretty cool about the whole thing. So she just gave me a warning. nothing written or anything.
To me other suggestions would have been, shoot from the back yard or wear a gillie suit and camaflage real good. LOL
Well I guess I will have to be way more descrete it my next shooting experience. I talked to all my neighboors and they are anti pigion. It must have been the new people that just moved in across the street.
Well just thought I would vent.

I grew up out there (ca) Unless there is a local ordnance against discharge of your pellet gun in the neighborhood you live in, and the tree rat was in your yard (preferrable back yard) I think your animal officer was just too quick to judge the situation. Check with a local Fish&Game officer on the legality of pigeons. Best I remember Feral Pigeons are a non-game species huntable year round. If city ordnance prohibits use of an air rifle, then you will need to be careful of all your shooting, paper or feather. Far as I remember you don’t even need a hunting license to hunt on your own property. Best solution might just be to get to know your new neighbor better.

Kojak; I live in SOCAL too. I suggest you just shoot from a more concealed position with a good moderator. My neighborhood enjoys a complete lack of crows, ravens and pigeons. As far as the neighbors are concerned air rats avoid our area for some unknown reason. I tell them I believe that space aliens are invovled. They seem to buy this explanation. Dipshits….AKULA

Neighbors suck!!!
I like the bird feed idea, cover their house, cars and yard in pigeon poo!!!!
I can’t even begin to believe that pigeons are protected, I know seagulls are, for whatever reason, everyone seems to hate them so that is probably why… I’d double check the validity of that animal services employee’s claim…
A sherif gave me the low down last summer after I asked… If you pointing your barrel towards any road, letting one fly is a no-no… In a residential urban neighborhood you can shoot an air rifle on your own property into a secure backstop, but if a bird in is a tree (no backstop), do not pull the trigger or you’ll get a visit from the local whomever… 🙄
