Q:

Tuning Edgun 22 to 20fpe!!!

Well now that I’ve got the 25 long set at 50fpe and it’s my primary hunter I’ve been debating what I can do to expand usefulness of my 22 long.
Well Jim C in Sacramento is starting a Field Target shoot at Sacramento Valley Shooting center in Ione CA , Sun Nov 3,
9am-3:30pm and it’s limited to 20fpe.
So for those of you that shoot field target with an Edgun 22 how far down did you have to turn reg?
I’ve got 50k JSB 18s on the shelf so I’ll be sticking with that pellet obviously and will need to get gun down to 700fps to hit 20fpe mark. Any input?

Impressive shooting Demp!

Tied for first in your class is more than just hanging in there… ๐Ÿ˜†

My pleasure handing down the information/wisdom that was handed to me along the way.

Oh, the next Diablo match is actually the Sunday before Thanksgiving weekend.

Team EdGun, I may have to add that to my signature. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well the 20fpe tune and JSB 18s worked quite well at the match Sun. I hung right in there.
I need to practice more especially on those up close ones as the scope height really affects crossover and misjudging by a yard can mean a miss for that little hole. I really need to play the gap better.
Big thanks to my shooting partner Synopsys (team Edgun).
Glad you made it out to Ione to play in the wind
and thanks for the pointers shooting this type of event. I really appreciate it.

Finished working so I took a few minutes to shoot.
Rt to left 3-5mph wind at 55yds. 10 shot group,shoot-reload-shoot. Little over a minute to complete. No hold off for wind just quick shoot hunting style at 12x power. 3 pellets dam near same hole.

More like time and effort :-). I agree about cricket grip. Very nice. Now my Eds are equally as nice.

I knew there was a lot of skilled work in it. The Cricket grip is near perfect as-is IMO.

Sure. Send me your 30 along with few tins of pellets once you get it. ๐Ÿ™‚
I just use a 80 grit sanding barrel on dremel and rip down to scribe lines
then go to 150 grit drum for final rough shape. Then onto 220 paper wrapped
around some various size dowels to shape and smooth. Then to 400,600,800,1000,1500. Then stain for
whatever color I want to play with then tung oil and final buff. I’m only at the 800 stage in pic with light coat of tung oil for now and it actually makes for a good field carry texture.

Very nice. Can we send you our stocks to fix. ๐Ÿ™‚

Going out t farm for more work today. Will get in a little bit of time to test out 20fpe up to 100 but will concentrate on inside 60 for FT event. In meantime grip has been reshaped and larger target wheel swapped over to 22.
I really like feel of all smoothed grip compared to feature lines left on 25s grip. I’ll reshape 25 more now

sounds promising…Pls let us know of the outcome when you stretch that badboy out to maybe 50y :8:

JSB 18s . Only got to shoot at 20yds and it was one ragged little hole at 12x off bipod only.

With what pellet are you doing this with? and how are they grouping?
I imagine then this will be your next step…?

P.S. those are very good #ยดs for a R3

Finally got some time to get into reg for a retune. First guess at setting was way off. 400fps.
Shit!! Second guess low 600s. Better. Third 660s. Better. Oh oh, tank is getting low on air.
Fourth adjustment went a bit more aggressive to make sure I touched 700 marks and I did with a 708 avg fps.
Fifth adjustment right where I want it at 697fps.
Problem is I could only get to a 150 bar fill so I ran the string from there.
86 shots from 150-90 bar. 697fps. Max spread of 8fps with SD of 2.34fps.
I guessed I would get 150 shots on full fill. Looks like 160+. Need to refill today so I can fill her up
then start dialing in scope and verifying mil dot impacts if I’m going to even remotely have a chance at hitting spots at FT match with new speed.
Also pulled out dremel and sanding blocks and reworked this stocks grip area like my other one but with even smoother transitions. Need to get more 600 paper before moving on to 800grit stage.

No confusion…you read it correctly. it was set at that FPE due to the restriction in my country.

And there was no bell curve during my pellet sampling, not the flattest string mind you but good enough for shooting at that distance, just pellet POI shift due to the various pellet weights.

it comes off the reg with an increase in FPS, something my R3 doesn’t do either.

I can safely say that this particular R3M shoots better then my R3, zero fliers…just wish the action would be a little smoother; maybe with time I hope!

I’m confused by your post.
When you received your gun you state it was shooting 18fpe. But you also state your reg came set at 130bar.
If both statements are true then I’ll assume your HST was so out of adjustment in relation to reg that I’m sure you had significant bell curve to your shot string which would give you a noticeable POI shift and would explain your groups.
Right now at 25m mine shoots one pretty ragged hole in none wind conditions.
At 50m a dime size group, non wind is standard.
My R3 long shoots predators just as well as 18s group wise out to 60yds

when I received my R3M it was set at 24jls (aprox 18FPE) and it didn’t shoot worth a crap…your usual 50m size groups but at 25m!!!

I tried all the JSB & HN pellets with mixed results. the reg is set however at the 130bar as it came.

So I set the thing back to 32FPE and one raged hole at the same 25m, it likes the predators also, something my R3 doesn’t.
