Q:

Vulcan malfunction

You may remember a while ago I posted my Vulcan blasted me in the face and wouldnt shoot after that. I was called all kinds of name and bad mouthed on this forum for reporting this. The cocking rod snapped. A new Vulcan was sent to me and this morning my first shot blasted me in the face. Again the rod has snapped on my 2nd Vulcan. As soon as I tear it down I will take pictures. the gun is still under warranty. I hope Topgun will send me a new type rod. I did send an email requesting one. I also have an Edgun and Cricket and I am not new to airguns, I treat my airguns like fine jewelry, the Vulcan was not abused, just a manufacturing defect. I probably have 1000 rounds thru this second Vulcan, the first broke after 56 shots. Lets see how Topgun handles the warranty, they treated me well on the first one.

Here is my ¢.03 (inflation). The communication fault is not solely on the manufacturer. When I have an issue with my Perazzi I don’t email Mauro Perazzi for help. The dealer and or authorized repair center takes care of my problem. In general I have serious distain for most airgun dealers. They are lazy, they often don’t know about the products they sell and offer zero customer support. I can honestly say if I imported airguns I would not follow the current dealer’s model. Want these guns to go mainstream? Stop using secret code to get parts and fixes for these guns.

being constructive and i as i no longer own either edgun products i will not defend his product or slag him off due to a possible communication issue …. if you cant communicate with your market in their demographics you will eventually lose your buyers if your products are not sufficiently supported, both only had to respond to my last emails for me to understand there was a language barrier… daystate on the other hand have no excuse …. Fx are still my manufacture of choice despite negative response as they do consistently hit my expectations ….. go figure :butkick:

I disagree. Evgeny , while not speaking English , tries to answer customer queries. Ed on the other hand is a pompous fuck who tells downright lies to his buying audience . To Eds defence i think he´s a narcist little fucker who doesn´t know any better. Lately he´s coming around because the bastard understands that his hey-days as the only one with a good Bullpup has come to an end, and for Evgenys part : Everyone in the World doesn´t speak English – in fact quite a few compared to the World population.
Want an English speaking customer service ? Turn to FX or Daystate. :suprisedn:

i had negative correspondence with both to be fair, both failed to respond to my final email enquiry’s from memory, from ed it was a low level enquiry for a silencer for my Leyla and another matador related issue, with evgeny it was a enquiry concerning UK power issues which was a higher level post purchase enquiry which could of lead to jail time ….. i put both down to language interpretations and resolved myself…… :sadn: so both need to work on customer relations

I have the nr 3 and it had that faulty rod. Evgeny send me a new one after i’d had the gun a week or so. Mine never failed but he did send the new one as a replacement before it could happen.
I’ve said this dozens of times : Evgeny is a good guy and he stands behind his product rather than hiding behind stupid explanations. He’s not Edward the Great and thank God for that.

Looks like a stress fracture to me.

That rod is of the old, updated sort. Didn´t know those still existed .. 🙁
Clearly a Warranty item though.

its number 25 so its was clear he was sent one of the early batch that his original faulty Pup was swapped out with, evergny has addressed it thru warranty, id guess the poor batch of rods at that time wasn’t picked up as a real fault till this came public :winkn:

While we are talking about the cocking rod…..

What does the heavy spring in front of the bolt achieve?
It adds resistance to moving the bolt forward the last bit, right when one is feeling for the pellet engagement.
So, instead of feeling just the pellet seating, the sensation is buried by that spring’s resistance.
I don’t understand what it is supposed to accomplish, or why it is so stout.
Is that much resistance needed to keep the bolt from popping back up & back during firing?
A lighter or no spring would let us feel the pellet engagement more precisely.

Good to hear Evgeny is taking care of you.

Here is what the cocking rod in my Vulcan 22 (2nd gen) looks like with one of the screws removed.
Both of my screws are identical to each other, M3 1.4 mm long (1.2 mm threaded)

Holes are centered in rod.
Oh yeah! There is a whole lot more metal around that hole. Other than my 2 failures, I have not read about any others failing. Obviously there were, because they beefed up the design. Thanks for posting that, A new one is being sent to me.

i think your wise to fit the revised parts to your pup rather than start again with a 3rd pup, i have had mine since April May but had to spend a lot of time getting it to UK sub 12ft and removing the external power adjuster to comply with our ultra strict power restrictions and capable of law, id wouldn’t want to start from scratch for simple failures of components that can be easily swapped out,

Looking at the close up of the picture I can see the head of the screws are different sized. I noticed this when I removed them, but the picture really shows the difference. I thinking the difference in head size my have pot some torque or stress on the weakest point of the rod causing it to snap.
