Vulcan malfunction

You may remember a while ago I posted my Vulcan blasted me in the face and wouldnt shoot after that. I was called all kinds of name and bad mouthed on this forum for reporting this. The cocking rod snapped. A new Vulcan was sent to me and this morning my first shot blasted me in the face. Again the rod has snapped on my 2nd Vulcan. As soon as I tear it down I will take pictures. the gun is still under warranty. I hope Topgun will send me a new type rod. I did send an email requesting one. I also have an Edgun and Cricket and I am not new to airguns, I treat my airguns like fine jewelry, the Vulcan was not abused, just a manufacturing defect. I probably have 1000 rounds thru this second Vulcan, the first broke after 56 shots. Lets see how Topgun handles the warranty, they treated me well on the first one.

Looks like a stress fracture to me.

It was good that you got the whole gun replaced quickly but sounds like the replacement was out of the same old batch that had defective cocking rods. It would be great if you get it replaced with a higher serial number one that might even have the newer shroud baffles. If not, a new improved cocking rod should fix it for a long time. With 1,000 rounds thru it you probably have the action smoothed out like a jeweled movement.
I have about 1800 rounds thru my .22 Vulcan. Besides shooting great I’ve enjoyed tinkering with it; smoothed out and adjusted the safety, adjusted the trigger 1st & 2nd stage plus got the pull down to about 6.$ ounces, vented the shroud for slightly less report, and got the twang down to maybe 1/2 to 1/3. Some improvements to come yet from Ernest ‘The Bullpup Tuner’ and it continues to shoot great.
Keep us informed how they handle your two year warranty. It’s very important to all of us.
Good luck and continue to shoot straight. :thumb:

After removing the inspection plate I found just what I expected, the rod broke at the first screw. The hole appears to be tapped off center leaving very litlle metal on the bottom side. Intook pictures but cant seem to figure out how to post here. If anyone wants to see, I can email them the pics

Yes, please post where in the linkage the failure occurred.

I’m curious to learn whether the rod itself broke or its connection to the breach body.
On my new Vulcan .22 (2nd gen), the two bolts that connect the rod to the brass breech body were very loose.
That was at about 50 rounds. So, I think they were loose at factory.
Thankfully, Lurker #1 told me to check those bolts while I was looking under the rear top cover.
Had the bolts worked further loose, something would have sheared.

If yours broke at that point, It would be a warning for all to check those bolts.
