Q:

Vulcan Tuning 22 cal

Well, I finally got a chrony and performed a shot string. It seems my regulator is set around 160 bar. Would like to have the regulator set closer to what it should be. From comments here it seems the 22 should be about 120 bar. The shot string also has a downward slope. Currently shooting 18.13gr JSBs at around 930. About 890 would be good for me. Then if I switch to the 16 gr, they should be closer to 930. I’ve got a few thousand 18r to go through first. I have over 1000 shots through the vulcan so I think it is time for a tune.

Who are the vulcan tuners? I’ve read about Ernest and pm’d him but haven’t gotten a response. I certainly don’t want to ship off a gun before the holidays but would like to ship it early January.

Here’s the shot string:

Mine probably had over 2000 pellets through it before it settled.

I would try to lower HST to 900fps and wait some time. I understand that efficiency is not so good when the regulator is set too high but wait. 💡

Based on the string posted above, max fps was 937.
I have 1000+ pellets through the gun.

I did the grommet mod so I had to reset the HST. I followed the instructions in the posts here and it seemed 930 was about the correct value. Perhaps I have the HST turned in too far and it shouldn’t be. I did the mod before I had a chrony so I don’t know what it was directly before mod. The 22 shot string Tony sent with the gun averaged 918.

Maybe I should reduce the HST so I get about 890 fps. It won’t have any affect on the high reg setting though. So I am wasting air and not getting the best shot count possible.

What is your maximum fps with 18gr. pellet? He had maximum velocity 935fps but he did not want to wait… but when they set regulator to 120bar for him after two weeks does settled down because he could not get 880fps. I suggest you be more patience. Try wait some time and just shoot and you will see after after 1000 or 2000pellets what happened with velocity.

Zonk,
So shouldn’t mine be settled after 1000+ shots? Were you shooting 18.1 gr at the 930 which settled to 900? How does one know the speed of the pellet if the regulator is set to 105 or 110? I’d still like to have 30 or more fpe.

In my pm, I asked about what is done on a complete tune and the price. I don’t know if he goes over it good and decides on what should be done and only do that or if it is a complete package – needed or not. PM me if you don’t want to discuss publicly please.

Octavius,
So, mine should be settled but are you saying it will settle in after every adjustment? So, if mine is changed to 120 it will settle again lower? Or was your buddy’s mistake having a new reg set to 120?

Benj don´t do this I mean don´t lower the regulator. I have a one friend he bought vulcan .22 and had some problems with other think on the vulcan so he returned it to the factory. He asked them about lowering regulator to 120bar I told you don´t do this because regulator will set down. They set the regulator to 120bar and after week or two he suddenly could not set 880fps because the regulator settled down. So he must set regulator again. Optimal pressure for regulator is 130bar for cal.22. It will settled down lets say 125bar…

benj, mine started at 930fps and when it settled in it was around 900fps. Ernest probably hasn’t answered your PM because he’s trying to finish up his current tunes before the holidays. I believe he’s now setting the reg to around 105 to 110 bar, I may be wrong but I thought that’s what I’ve heard. And yes Ernest does a great job on tuning airguns….
