Same rule applies in this country. A number of companies and persons have won lawsuits against people that registered their name, business name or brand name.

$280? Chump change. A friend of mine had a domain name for his business – something with the word “tube” in it. I believe he sold it for between 10k and 20k. Now it’s a link to porn sights. Clearly more interest in porn than edguns. 😯 😯

How exactly is that stealing property? If he hadn’t registered it, but someone else did before he got around to it, it’s the same as if someone bought the house you were looking at before you did.

In my country nobody can register a domain name including a well established company name/brand name unless they prove their affiliation to that company. Usually by written confirmation from the company owner/CEO/president. A brandname is considered the intellectual property of the company….
“Generic words and phrases” is a different matter, – and of course there are grey areas which make lawyers rich and courts and judges scratching their heads……..
In the “EdgunUSA.com” case, – there would not have been any doubts…. 😉
But that’s on this side of the pond……..

Okay – for those interested, here’s how it works…
The owner of the EdgunUSA.com domain is what is “affectionately” referred to as a “squatter”. This is an individual or company that scours the internet for search words or phrases, and then buy the domains for those words and phrases that have a sufficient (read: profitable) number of hits.
The owner expects someone to come looking to buy that domain from them in the near future, and prices it based on how much it is searched. It costs $8 to register a domain. The owner of EdgunUSA.com feels that it is now worth $280 – that is the price if I would like to buy it.
It is an interesting way to make a living. I’m not bashing it, as it is all legal, and I am a supporter of capitalism and democracy. But, it does have a certain “bottom feeder” flavor to it, doesn’t it? Like personal injury lawyers or currency traders. Sure, it’s legal, and you are well within your rights to do it. But, that doesn’t protect you from winning the biggest douche in the universe award. 😆

Hey Ted…The reason you previously could not register was due to the fact I Had/Reserved those domain names for the last 2 years..I let them lapse in August…It is interesting to see who picked them up….(I should have put them up for auction… 😀 )

If “EDgun USA” is in fact a registered company, – you’ll be right……
In any case, – trying to “abuse” the word/brand name “EDgun”, – is probably not a good idea seen from a court’s perspective….. 😉
But then I’m fully convinced that Ted had good intentions only. I’m more worried about whoever turned the site in question into some election campaign stunt…….. 😥
