A fixed 4x doesn’t cut it at 50+ yards. FOV is too small with high power fixed scopes for hunting purposes.
Had a 6×32 on my TalonSS and found that the FOV was too small for fast target aquisition inside 20 yards even at the lowest setting. At 100yds I seldom turned the scope up to more than 14x, even paper punching.
Conclusion, the 4x low end gives better field of view/faster target aquisition up close, and at normal airgun hunting ranges (100yds or less)I find anything over 15x to be unnecessary.
If I could find a scope of 2x-16x variable range, I’d consider it ideal for airgun hunting.
Note this is my assessment for a hunting setup, which is what the AF guns are best for…..not for target shooting.
your mileage/opinion will vary based on personal taste, that’s why we have XXXX different scopes and manufacturers available to us.
I’m the one and only vote for open sights (as of now anyway) I want to use open sights as long as my eyes allow.
