Q:

What Barrel?

I am purchasing a TSS soon and I plan to also purchase a .25 caliber 24 inch barrel possibly with a shroud. I was wondering which LW barrel is best: standard choked, polygonal or polygonal choked.. anyway what is the difference between them .

P.S I haven’t seen anyone with a talon valve and and and a .25 barrel, why is this? ❓

never had a poly bbl on an airgun. i can say from cf handgun that they distort the projectile less (possibly an accuracy advantage) and tend to be slightly faster. Another benefit is MUCH easier cleaning. I shot a lot of lead cast bullets in the CF pistol calibers and the poly bbls collected less “leading” and cleaned easier when they did need it.

I can think of no disadvantage to the poly, so even if benefits are minimal, why not use it if available?

i had 2 standart rifling and 2 poly…..all same caliber and lenght…the poly was ever so slightly faster like 15 fps or so….accuracy was same in both, with the normal rifling edging out the poly ever so slightly it could have been the day i was shooting, it could have been so many things…maybe one crown was better than the other…i dont know

i see no reason not to choose the poly rifling….in my .22 test..it was faster after all

price is the same at LW wether one or the other…at least it was when i ordered

pellets pushed though poly rifling had less hard rifling edges and marks cut into them

Cool, I’m liking the poly barrel thing…kinda cool.. is there a price difference?

I’ve heard that a polygonal barrel will give a little bit more velocity because there is less friction… havent noticed or checked for it myself though and I think you’d need to check a ton of barrels to find out anyway.

i Have a 24″ poly. Shoots as good as my normal barrels, no better, no worse. Advantages? Ummmm…….

Did you get my PM about your rings?

I have a Polygonal barrel. It is very accurate. Just as accurate as any LW barrel that is a good one.

I would think Teflon would have something to say about poly barrels as he had a condor with one.

I see there has not been any debate on the barrel you should use (according to us). That tells me the way to go is probably the traditional bore as otherwise the users of the poly barrels would have jumped in to say how much better they shoot now… 😉

I unfortunately don’t have the tools to do it but I know the owner of a massive machine ’cause he helped me build a jet engine a couple years back……. I bet he would help…. 😀

P.S Does anyone know about Polygonal vs. standard barrels… pro and cons

I have a friend that did it with a drill press.

Definately increased power. 😀
