Q:

What does one expect from a brand new. 25 cricket

What is the typical speed gun should be shot at for ragged hole accuracy at 50 yards. What pellets perform the best. Is there any break in period for the barrels.

This may be a stretch, but I have had tins of JSB’s that just shoot like shit and then the next will be one hole all day long, just the way it works with pellet qc . So if your one of the guys that has like 20 tins of JSB’s then maybe try a different tin. Also, you may need to make sure that all screws (especially the ones that interact with the barrel) are good and tight.

Possibly loose barrel mount screws????

Give us a full shot string to see at 900 fps with pressure readings along the way. What pellets are you using?

Very interesting stuff. Thanks guys for your advice.I recently bought a 25 tactical cricket and I did clean it some but not run 30 patches as it seemed clean enough. Now it was tested at the store at 58fpe plus. I never checked it though. I did mount scope and fires 4 magazines and out of the four clips there were 5shots that were where they were suppose to be. Now this in a brand new gun and barrel has seen very little lead but it is by no means a ragged hole at fifty yards. More like one and a half inch groups. I later talked to Ernest and recommended I turn down regulator so I can bring gun down to 900 fps or so. So that’s what I did and gave the barrel another going over at the same time. So I’m waiting for my scope to come back from Hawke to test it again. So the next part of the story is my friend has a 25 cricket as well and can’t get his to shoot. Its 1 inch and better at 50. Groups would wonder around and just wouldn’t give any consistency at all. I tried shooting it and couldn’t make it group worth talking about. At the same place my 22 cricket did ragged hole groups one after the other at 50 yards. Could it be it needs to come all the way down to 880 fps? Crazy part it would group 2 shots almost on top of each other then one the next 3 move over and create their own little group just 1/2 away. What are your thoughts guys?

Shroud clipping?

Something like this?

Not too far off. I wanted some clear circles for dim light and empty space when testing new pellets. Thanks for that link, San. This is just an image-do not print it. I can e-mail the .pdf, but photobucket won’t allow .pdf uploads :angrymob:

There´s no exact speed to tell. Every rifle/barrel is a bit different so you need to find the speed it´s most consistent at. I have mine shooting at 285 +- mps / 930-935 fps and haven´t really had the time nor the interrest for much testing in the cold.
That said it should shoot under 3/4″ holes/mag of pellets whatever speed you run it.
Like someone already mentioned it´s essential to thoroughly clean the barrel before you fire the first shot. It´s filthy as delivered. LW uses some nasty, waxy goo for protection and that takes 25-30 patches soaked in Ballistol / Hoppe´s No 9 to get rid off. I also did the same thing i always do with any new barrel and polished mine before heading to the range the first time.
It takes a fair number of shots to break in the barrel and the reg but it´ll/should shoot very tight from the get-go.
Some fliers here and there are a part of the world of Airguns due the Pellets being what they are if not sorted/measured/massaged and gone thru Brazilian Wax job.

Just clean the bugger thoroughly , adjust to 930ish and go have fun. Worry about the “best” speed later.

Mine came shooting 1000fps average, turned it down to 950 and it was a one hole deal. Sent it off to Ernest for a tune and now have it tuned for 945 at 210bar fill.

Nice target, I just printed 100 of them….

Thanks

Got my .25 cricket. Cleaned it, scope came with it ready to go, First 3 shots at 50 yards were one ragged hole. Tried to calm my racing heart as my first pcp would barely shoot a 1-1/2 inch groups. I finished the clip and you could cover the group with a dime. I even felt I pulled some shots. I was shooting jsb’s, but it seems to shoot barracudas as well. Came shooting 960 out of the box. After a couple hundred shots settled it around 945-950. I turned in the spring a turn or so which brought it back up to. 960 again. I get easy four mags off a fill. 80 yard pigeons are a chip shot. I shot 5-6 yesterday at over a hundred. I love the gun. Sighted in at 60 the hash marks on my scope correspond to 5 yd increments out past 100. A very great hunting set up.

That’s good to hear. Mine is shooting at 980 with kings and 50yard groups are 1-1/2 on 20 shots. I will tame it down then. Just had perception they shoot great at 950 too

I have a .25 stock Cricket. Shoots exceptional groups using Kings at 897-902 fps. The barrel, like any, should first be cleaned and shot a bit. However, it doesn’t take long to see small groups. At those speeds, 50 yd groups should be tight.

The good news is you can use a one inch target, print, say 15 per page and spend less time replacing the paper. I made/designed a sheet w/ 15. Each 1 inch (od) circle has horiz. and vertical lines, a grey-shaded 1/4 inch bullseye and a 1/2 inch middle ring. Can e-mail you a .pdf if interested. Heck, you could put 30-50 little circles per page and stay inside them, but there wouldn’t be any room to write info.

Sir Ville got a very good group for his .25cal Cricket just out of the box at 50 mtr,,for one full magazine he got a group almost exact to the size of the .22LR short shell,,, i am sure he will post the pic again to show you the group ,,,

speed most of the .25 cal owners are prefer the 886FPS for JSB 25gr…

they will help you ASAP…

Try adjust speed untill it shoots good. Most owner would say below 900fps….maybe 50 yard would allow for more speed since it is close range.
