“Technically” MOA is a hair more than 1″per100yard. Literally a hair though.

The projectile landed within 1/60th of 1 degree of the point of aim. That is why you see the relationship of 1/2 inch at 50 yards, 1 full inch at 100 yards, etc.
One easy to visualize way of looking at it is that if you pointed a laser at the target and a second laser at where the projectile hit. The angle between the 2 beams would be within 1/60th of 1 full degree. That is some pretty darn good shooting!!
5 MOA would be 5/60 of a degree or 5 inches.

This should also tell you something about the “laser-dot” sights and the ratings they have. A 1 MOA rated laser-dot sight would appear to project a 1 inch diameter circle onto a 100 yard target and the “beam” would appear to widen as it was aimed at further targets and narrow at closer ones, covering circles of the corresponding x MOA at those distances. The difference in this example is it reflects the total width of the circle, whereas the MOA of an aim point is measured from one point to another and if that laser-dot sight was aimed between them, the edges of the dot would appear to touch them both.
A 3 MOA laser-dot’s dot is 3/60th of a degree wide and a laser beam would be 3 inches wide at 100 yards if it projected out that far as a real laser beam would do. In reality, it only appears that wide as you view through it. So it would appear to completely cover a 3 inch diameter circle at 100 yards.
Minute Of Angle.
Sub MOA means a dam straight shooting rifle! Under a miute of angle or less than 1/2″ groups @ 50, 1″@100, 2″@200, etc. 😎
