what is the truth about AF guns ?
Trying to get honest, straight answers concerning the accuracy of AF rifles.
Reason for asking; Close to purchasing my first AF gun.
Function first, accuracy second, etc., etc.
Having trouble finding pics of groups shot with AF guns, especially 30-50 yard groups.
I was under the assumption that LW barrels are accurate.
From what I have read and seen, most speak of power and little concerning accuracy.
Peoples taste change from time to time, and mine does too. At this particular time, i`m interested in a Talon P. May be a Condor next month. Who knows.
What kind of accuracy can one expect from an AF gun?.
Have been into airgunning a few years and own multiple guns.

LW Polygon bbl. Walkonking has one in .22, and it is very accurate!

That is good shooting. I`d be happy with that group on the right @ 50.
ps: What is a Poly barrel?.

I put in a 16″ LW polygonal barre and did a valve tune and now 1″ at 100 yds
My son regularly can take sparrows at 70 yds off hand with the Talon.
once I put in the barrel and did the valve the TalonSS shot on par with my AirArms 400.
With the AF gun you must make sure everything is dialed in and locked down with locktite. Then you use a light hold while shooting and you will have a good time.
I would go with a Talon SS if you are going to shoot around the house. Go with the Condor if you are going after bigger game and longer range.
1″ @ 100 yards is very good IMHO. 99% of my shooting with air rifles will be 55 yards or less.
Why?. Easier to hold steady because of weight?.

Hope this helps, I find my specimen to be very accurate, but I learned airguns shooting a springer, so I already had the habit of not holding the gun tight.
One last note, I regularly shoot a 1″- 1-1/2″ spinner one of those orange nylon type jobs at 55 yards from my back porch or second story deck free hand with this rifle and those pellets. It really likes the JSB’s, but will still perform very well with the Crosman HP’s from the metal tin.

Cherry picking is what I was looking for because I want to know what these guns are capable of.
It is up to the shooter to make it happen.
One thing has me puzzled. Most seem to imply that 12″ barrels are not as accurate as the longer barrels.
My experience over the years has been that short barrels can be just as accurate as longer barrels IF the quality is there.
Sight radius should be left out of the equation because most use optics.
That just leaves weight, flex, pressure per inch of barrel, proper technique, pellet match, etc..
In other words, placed in a vice, the 12″ barrels should be just as accurate as the longer barrels, with preferred pellet of course.
OK, I don’t generally post to many groups as I’m really still getting use to my Talon SS, but here’s a first try at posting a picture. Yes I may have cherry picked this one, but it was a calm day, un-lubed JSB 15.9 gn pellets shot from the bipod and a rear bag at 25 yards, I later lasered the distance and found it was 31 yards, but I digress. 5 shots stock Talon SS, only aded baffles to quiet it a bit more, fill pressure was right at 2600 PSI.

Nice thing with them is you can have a Cranked up .25 shooting 100+ FPE and then swap bbl out and toss on a CO2 tank and a .177 bbl leave shroud on and you have a SILENT plinker for back yards
It’s one of a few rifles where you can go from 177 to 22 to 25 in under ten minutes… 😉
Swap out the barrel and the tank and it’s a new rifle for a fraction of the price of a new rifle. ❗
One must not forget that accuracy does NOT only come from the barrel of a gun.
Speed, ammo, barrel, platform/stock, shooter etc..etc..etc.. all have an affect on accuracy.
With the Airforce guns, it has been noted time and time again that its hold sensitive and that the gun has frame flex. So, in saying that, one has to learn to overcome the flex and sensitivity by practicing a “LIGHT” hold with the gun.
A LW barrel is only as accurate as LW makes the barrel. For the most part, they are EXCELLENT barrels. But some issues have been noted as of late. But not all have issues. Its just another thing to be aware of just in case.
There are also more “RECENT” mods available for the guns than there was 8 years ago. We know have the WOK parts, the Mad Dog stocks, a better knowledge of how to shoot the guns and, better machinist with a better understanding of how to make parts to make the gun perform better.
The AIRFORCE is somewhat “EVOLVING” in my opinion.

I can get 1″ at 30 yards with 177 and 12″ barrel. With a condor 22 24″ I can get 1″ at 50 yards. It depends a lot on wind and central Texas as an abundance :-). Both guns bone stock.

The only thing that has ever thrown off my accuracy is flucuation in fps, caused by what ever, leaking, sticking parts. sometimes to fig. it out take some exploring, mostly easy to change out o-rings
