When to change breech O rings?
I’ve just got myself the 1K4 PSI regulated tank and the 48 CU bottle but It seems to be eating air up. About 1 bar a shot. The shots are all 639-642 FPS so to me that’s a hell of alot of air for that power? TBH I thought even with the 12″ barrel I’d have more power too?? to me the rifle seams quite loud too but perhaps that’s just going from my S400 to the SS and having the valve and hammer right next to my ear.
Anyway I’ve been In contact with a member off here for a while who has been helping me with the reg and all other problems (Cheers mate 😉 ) and he mentioned putting some tracing paper over the breech and If It moved, I’m loosing air. I tried with a single ply piece of toilet paper pushed tight around the cocking bolt and breech area, fired a shot and It got pushed right up Into the carry handle 😆
My valve hasn’t had the O ring mod on but still should I be loosing that much air?

I have my Condor apart right now. I was looking at the O rings in the breech and also noticed that the O ring in the muzzle end of the breech fits looser on the barrel than the one on the top hat side does. The muzzle end fit is pretty loose.
I ordered my Condor with a Talon valve, my Talon valve has an O ring in it.
Try doing the tissue test again but with a smaller piece of tissue.
1st shot. place the tissue at the barrel end of the breach slide then take a shot.
2nd shot. place the tissue at the TH end of the breach slide then take a shot.
3rd shot. place the tissue at over the TH covering the valve end.
Which of these shots shows the most aggressive tissue movement?
If one of these tissue positions shows a constant and more aggressive movement you should be able to locate the air leak more effectively.
If this does help with localising the air leak you will have a better idea of what to look at and fix.
I never turned my breach slid the wrong way round but it seems odd that you have a tighter fit one way and not the other… I thought a breach slide was the same profile right the way through.
Can anyone confirm this?
Just changed the breech o rings. They were slightly mucky (the old o rings) but didn’t seem that worn? The one around the barrel seems very loose yet I tried the breech on the barrel the other way around and It made a good tight seal?
Anyway the results, I did the paper tissue test and the tissue flew right off the rifle so there’s still air coming from somewhere. My TH Is polished and so Is my barrel. O rings were lubed with silicone grease before assembly. No lube on barrel as the hybrid hammers are meant to be run dry. I did see a slight incrase In power though but only about 4-5 fps.

Without the O-ring mod in the brass retainer, air escapes around the valve stem when the valve is open. Talons don’t have this mod. The later Condors do, but its poor and has failed. Look here: http://www.talontunes.com/id13.html.
When you remove the breech to change those seals, polish the barrel where the breech slides to 3,000 grit emery cloth. It will have a mirror finish when done. Apply a coat of silicone grease. Check inside the breech and around the barrel for any paint/lead residue and remove. Grease the seals before installing.
Polish the tophat to remove machined lines/marks
If you do these steps you will have NO air leaks 8)
Is that yes I should be using up that much air? I’ve got the O rings here anyway allthough they don’t seem to have much resistance when I pushed them on to any one of my 5 top hats I have. Do they compress slightly when are In the grooves In the breech?

Yes. Another way to test is using a flame, candle or match will work. Hold it about 1/2″ away from the breech/valve, dry fire. Flame should not flicker or go out.
You could (should?) change the o-rings. Very easy to do, and costs only pennies. Don’t know if it’ll fix your problem, but it can’t hurt.

Strange that Isn’t It old goat 😕 Will go do the tissue test again now. Wind Is up from yesterday but I’ll see how the results go. I’ve got an o ring modded mk1 stealth valve here so will try that later too. I’m sure there was a problem when I tried It origionally but we’ll see.
Measured my TH today. All measurements are approx. +/- 0.05mm 😆
