Yes. Your valve will work on the R&L barrel.
When I make a .257 the barrel is larger at the breech for the larger valve.

It sounds to me like Doug is saying that the valve you have on my old gun, will work on the RL barrel because the barrel is machined to the AF specs and the valve you have was working on a AF barrel.
Doug’s bigger 257 valve has to be used on a barrel that he machines with a thicker breech and he prefers to machine his 257 rifles with a thicker breech.
If you tried that valve on a barrel that Doug machined to his 257 specs it would not work..
The way I am understanding this is that RL machines his barrels to 25 AF specs, which again was what that valve was working on when I sold it.

Has anybody tried Tony’s new 1 piece top hat with no restrictor on the RL .257 barrel?
My .25 valve has a bore of .240″ and would work. I have one on my gun that is .250″ but makes the stem thinner than I want to sell.
To get the full potential out of .257 it is a larger valve.

Don’t know how it got started but that gun was always a LW .25. It shot a .255″ slug though because of how large that barrel was.
Now you have seen the difference in the valves.
A real .257 valve is even larger but the barrel is also .375″ at the breech.
So with R&L barrel you will be limited to using a .25 valve and not a .257′ valve.

Ok here is the difference in the valves.
The condor stem actually fits in my .25 stem and fits in the .257 easy.
This is just info for people that want a .257 and when they drop a barrel in and wonder why the numbers aren’t what other people are getting.
So you bought that old rifle of mine, good for you, I know you were certainly sniffing around it.. 😛
That RL barrel was the clincher I bet. Yes that valve is one of Doug’s, the one that uses the AF body but Doug bores out to use his stem.
I got 830 out of a 17 inch barrel with that valve and the 71 grain bullet, you should be pushing 900 FPS, that was always my plan if I kept the gun was to put a 257 barrel in it.
Doug and Joe are correct about trying a stock valve with those heavy bullets. To push them to adequate velocities, you need both the long barrel and one of his cavernous valves.

I bought the Condor that was on the Yellow…the one that had the 257 barrel in it but he replaced it with a 22 cal 12″ trying to put it back to a “stock” talondor SS. I also have a TTT Condor. The opening on the valve is a monster compared to a stock condor. That tank should help too. I do have plans on getting one from Doug though, along with a few other mods.
I should have added that when I get the 700, I will be getting a new hammer, valve and spring. At minimum you might want to look into a new valve and hammer to ensure that you are getting the most out of your new barrel

I figured you already had a Doug valve on hand ❓ If not, you are chasing your tail. We have been through this before with the surefire slugs. They were always in need of more fps than the ported stock valve afforded….
