Why do a lot of people here seem to dislike the Bobcat?
Or FX in general? I’ve seen several regular posters say something to the effect that they have a general dispostion when it comes to the FX Bobcat and FX in general. Such as “Friends don’t let friends buy Bobcats” etc etc. Not trying to start a feud but I am leaning heavily on buying a Bobcat. I want to hear some of the general gripes people have with FX and or the Bobcat. I have no partiality to any manufacturer, if I could I would have them all.
Your thoughts please….

Hi Btango05,
Your Honda odyssey does not have a roll down window in the sliding door. That must have been a 2004 or older model. All of the 2004 and older odyssey must have tinted window. Looking through the
Scope must have been very difficult, I really can’t imagine how can you make a classic mistake?.. đŻ đŻ .well I guess it happened.
I have taken many ground squirrels out of my Honda odyssey from the middle row with the sliding door opened half way. It is kind of exciting shooting out of a car.
John
What a biotch, I done one similar but not as expensive. Years ago when I was about 12 years old or so in the mid 70’s I shot a few holes in moms bean bag chair while sneaking a few shots into the wood lying in the fire place down stairs. She was mad as hell but dad saved me a little grief by fessing up I had seen him doing it too !!! Same deal, scope cleared and the muzzle did not. I remember hearing about a friends dad shooting holes through the top lip of a bulldozer bucket on the same deal too.
Nice thing is you don’t ever do it again. !!!
to be converted to “bullpup” in buyers’ minds with enough advertising and spokesmen repeating it over and over.
Long enough to shoot from any vehicle window:
Ted shows that the Bobcat is long enough to shoot from the driver’s seat out the passenger side window of your truck/car,
and, at that, out the backseat passenger’s-side window too. An Edgun or Cricket isn’t long enough.
Thanks Bleece…well thought out write up. So I wonder if FX didn’t start off by trying to call it a “bullpup” and perhaps “hybrid carbine” or just “carbine” would it still have the negative impact on the “Bull-pup Aficionados” as it has. But still your post and OG’s about the internals has me thinking.
Funny thing you mentioned shooting from a car. I was sitting in my Honda Odyssey in the back middle seat taking out ground squirrels. I took one using the drivers seat as a rest and shooting through the drivers window. Next shot I needed to aim the gun through the back sliding door window….well that window can’t go all the way down. Took aim, thought my muzzle cleared the window as my sight picture did and “BAM” blew out the glass! Since then the wife doesn’t let me use the van to shoot out of đĽ Not my proudest moment….oh btw that was with my Cricket BP.
here is someone who has held both.
UNBIASED opinion not from a FX spokesman

The gun is accurate, functional; its aesthetics is a secondary concern for many airgunners. For many, “accuracy” is what matters,
so presumably even a bazooka look wouldn’t detract. Itâs mostly the slapped-together prototype look that objectors emphasize.
And what seems an FX campaign to control the Bobcat’s image:
1. FX calls it a “bullpup”. It is not. It’s merely a shorter carbine. FX seems to be counting on the Bobcatâs “shortness”
to be converted to “bullpup” in buyers’ minds with enough advertising and spokesmen repeating it over and over.
2. Since itâs so long and the stock so bulky, it weighs more. Bullpups don’t weigh as much.
3. The price: It does have a prototype look, with no discount for its unevolved short-comings. It is still what our colleague MG
might have labeled a Dr. Frederikstein abomination. IT’s ALIVE, but innocent and misunderstood through no fault of its own.
That’s why all the torch-wielding villagers outside screaming for its destruction.
4. So little scientific testing of it. Need Consumer Reports for this anymore.
Some new positives on the Bobcat, though, from TedofMadison’s last video:
He has pretty much delved into the Bobcat as much as he’s ever going to. No hundred-yard target accuracy tests.
No disassembly or tune-up tutorials (may violate warranty for viewers?). Sure, the familiar chuckling and displays of select
long range hits on birds are on display. But with a few new positive features noted to expand our knowledge:
No camera shake when recording:
If you’re going to shoot paper/hunt with a camera attached, there is less vibration in the sight picture; the additional mass
that Ted designed into the Bobcat stock absorbs a lot of the recoil vibration.
Long enough to shoot from any vehicle window:
Ted shows that the Bobcat is long enough to shoot from the driver’s seat out the passenger side window of your truck/car,
and, at that, out the backseat passenger’s-side window too. An Edgun or Cricket isn’t long enough.
Maneuverable and nimble:
Ted also shows how maneuverable and nimble the Bobcat is, enough to switch back and forth between front passenger-seat window
and backseat window in less than an instant. See how Ted sees “some more birds now” at 2:43 timestamp, and how quickly
he’s able to shift the gun from front passenger-side window to backseat passenger-side window to take the shot.
Very quiet:
The Bobcat is so quiet and stealth, with the added shroud, the starlings don’t hear the gun report with 100 yards of fog between them and Ted.
The Bobcat looksâtoo manyâlike an FX committee designed it: the engineer, the plastic injections mold designer, the productions cost manager,
the marketing head were involved; the art design manager? doesnât look like it. The result has irked some people. Still, it’s about the “accuracy”
to Bobcat fans.
So, imagineâif Ed or Maverick were to drop aesthetics considerations from their own guns, how much more they could do
selling just âaccuracyââfunctionâlike FX is with the Bobcat. đ
Evolution ??? đŻ đŻ I saw a program, i think it was on the Discovery or maybe the History Channel, anyway – they said the current generation is so de-generated that todays 16-year old teenagers have a condition comparable to people in their 60´s. Unbelievable!
They also said that the brainwork and intelligence of todays youth is so far back that they´re the first generation , since the stone-age, who are so stupid, in normal survival skills/insticts, that once you take a bunch of them, drive them into the woods and take their iPhones and Androids from them they´d die in hunger and never have the intelligence to even try to get out of those damned woods. They´re wiley with computers though…
That’s right. They got to be…. nice and grateful… It goes against evolution.
I know, i know. A working buddy of mine is one of those. He thinks fit and good looking Girls are disgustingly skinny and un-healthy looking. Whenever he sees a fat Pig he says “look, look, look – you miss all the real Women”. The only thing i can answer to him is ” i never missed that Hippo – the damned Earth was shaking”. He´s priceless … And to boot he´s a very little guy, some 5`3″ and skinny as hell. His wife is ten years older, almost a Foot taller and atleast a ton (metric) heavier. Grrrrrr….. :nono:
He also often talks about their sexlife and talks about his fat wifes newest tricks´and how fat girls are such grateful in the Bed. No wonder they´re grateful – who in their right mind wants them? I don´t mean a bit chubby girls but those disgusting Bean Bag Wannabies.
Think of an ugly fat girl that gives good head. đŻ Of course there are chubby chasers…
But the Bobcat caught my eye with the new stock, great trigger, awesome accuracy and smooth reloading. So I got one .25 in december. Early Christmas gift to me đ
Yes its little heavier. Mine weight 4800 gram with Sidewinder scope. And a little longer to. But that does not bother me. Little louder to. But Im working on a mod đ
Here is a pic of them.
Hi ho Silwer ! :2:
Yes, the BC isn´t a looker-far from it. Yes, it´s heavier and clumsier than it needs to be and YES – it´s not a real Bullpup.
Now to the positives – It shoots as well as either Cricket or the Ed and has a superior trigger on both. I don´t hate the BC – i just don´t like it but i know it´s an effective rifle.
Like i´ve said countless times FX/Fredrik should throw away the blueprints of the current edition and start over with a clean sheet of paper – and i mean from ground up. As long as he persist on using the current design (read: build the BC around the Royale-block) he´ll never get it short and nimble. A true-to-life scope rail (Weaver) is also one of the things needed.
Have i mentioned the Fugliness of the gun yet ?? đ
I’m going to agree, if a better optic rail setup was fitted a larger OD shroud could be used to eliminate the huge gap between it and the air cylinder along with the shroud actually working and not requiring adding more length to it. Seems to me the rail causes a few problems that should have resulted in it not being used, and was implemented as a shortcut to speed up development. :15:
The Yellow forum and AOA has done an excellent job of boosting the image of the FX guns! Check out some of the European forums and you will find that FX guns are classed as a âmid tierâ air gun at best. They are in the Air Arms gun category.
Sorry but here air arms is held alot higher regard of any fx airgun mainly because of there cheap feel and internals đ lads loose a fortune when they buy fx then try sell them on as u have by the looks of it most recent gripe on a uk forum was his independent jamming pellets in the barel with still 170 bar in the tank
All started with someone bicurious, hOOt it was I think, said he thought it was pretty and wanted one.
Then all hell broke loose when some manly men with testosterone filled shit for brains called it fugly and everybody jumped the on shit train. I’m not saying it’s a looker but it shoots all right as it showed in latest Extreme benchrest comp. Gays here is a bit biased to the Edgun and other true bullpups which the bobcat is not and if it pisses off some sissy over @ the yellow of then it’s just gravy on the biscuit.
Dr. đż
Btango: you quoted me wrong; I said that friends donât let friends buy an FX!
I didnât mention the fucking ugly, long and heavy Bobcat exactly, I just included it in the FX air gun category.
I have owned a 22 cal FX Royale and a 30 cal Boss. I have tried to sell both of them. I have priced the Royale at $800 under what I paid for it and I have had no takers. I did finally sell the Boss, I only lost $800 on it and I was happy to get that!
Neither one of my FX guns were any where near the fit, finish, quality, length, weight or durability of my Matadors.

FX could have come up with something decent with the Bobcat but: they really dropped the ball on it!
Both Bobcat stocks are ugly and the butt end is way longer than it needs to be. The synthetic stock is way heavier than it needs to be and isnât shaped that well. It is also kind of funky the way that the stock has a hole in the side so you can read the air pressure gauge! WTF is up with that?
To me, the Bobcat is just something that FX threw together so they could get some of the bull pup craze dollars. Around a year ago, Fredrick said that FX would never make a bull pup.
Fredrick was right, they havenât, as yet!
The 30 cal Bobcat is almost the length of some full sized air guns and the 30 cal needs another 6â of additional baffles to quiet it down to be almost backyard friendly. It also needs the additional 6 inch air tube extension to have a decent shot count.
My 30 cal R3 is a couple of inches shorter than the stock 30 cal Bobcat and it is amazingly quiet as delivered. It doesnât need another 6â of add on baffle.
I can also remove the stock on my Matador and horizontally rotate the action 90 degrees without having the pins that hold the trigger and cocking parts fall out of the breech block.
I couldnât do that with either of my FX guns, the pins would fall out and it is not the easiest thing to get the parts lined up so the pins can be pushed back in. I finally learned to put some masking tape on both sides of the breech block to keep the pins from falling out if I forgot and rotated the breech 90 degrees while having the breech out of the stock.
If you do buy a Bobcat, donât ever shoot it down to zero pressure if you have an air leak that you want to try to fix. Doing that will âpeenâ the machined part of the breech block that the air valve rod sticks out of over and the air valve will no longer be able to seat and seal the air tank pressure.
The gun will need to be sent back to AOA for repairs.
My Boss did have a great trigger! My stock Matadors donât have a trigger that is as good; I have learned how to polish and adjust them to make them at least as good as the Boss trigger.
The problem with the Matadors is the long wait time plus, I donât know if Ed will make any more 30 cal Matadors.
I hate to say this but: I think that you would be far happier with a Cricket than the Bobcat. I know that you would be happier with a Matador if you could buy one.
Just my 2 cents; your mileage may vary.

John,
It’s a 2010…sliding door windows only go half way down. Yeah it was a idot mistake for sure. The windows are tinted….cost me $185 to replace. My adrenaline was pumping and I should have had the muzzle outside the window. But I didn’t…that was the mistake of the year. I’m allowed at least one per year right?
