Q:

Working on the Ranger 45 stock again

JD got my interest in working on the stock again in some emails he has exchange with me and his Ranger that is arriving soon.

The stock that came wit my Ranger was a classic style walnut stock, nice wood, the style I like, but way too oversize. It reminded me of a NM 03A3 stock or a Supermatch M1A stock.

After a few months I had had enough and I carved a slight cheek piece in the stock and took off a little bulk and weight, but still had much more to go.

I have finished my USMC knife projects and that too had got my interest on reducing the weight of the Ranger stock.

Before with a couple fish I caught

After a few hours with the rasp.

And yes JD this stock had a belly in the but stock too, not anymore tho.

I figure I will have about a week in sanding this to get it to the size I want. I hate the style of air gun stocks made today, most of that stuff looks like something Hans Solo would be carrying.

The lead fish is two of the 65 lbs of pure lead fish ingots I got in today. I paid $1.20 per pound delivered.

I emailed Dan a couple of days ago wondering where my Quigley is, he had to send it back to the cerama coat people because it wasn’t up to snuff. They had lost three of their people to the oilfields, so things may be slow until they get their new people broken in if they have them yet.
Regards, Tom

RC,

I dropped Dan an email..I feel like a dope but I haven’t been over to the other forum lately 😳

No, I did not know that. I haven’t heard from him since the 14 th.

You of course heard that his son was in a car accident and broke both of his legs?

I think that happened last week.

RC

I can’t put a sentence together tonight…must be the eggnog 😆

I’m having going to have little problem believing in Santa this year if my Ranger is not under the tree 👿

JDNC: How about, honey, I have to run to the store and will be back ASAP! 😆

Oldgoat,

I sure wish I could, but what would I tell my wife?

😆

Jdnc: sounds like a very very good reason for a road trip!

What could be more important than a picking up a new air gun? 😆

RC,
The last I heard from Dan was my rifle was over being coated. I guess my chance to get it before Xmas week is out the window. And that really sucks as I was hoping to shoot it during my time off. Damn…damn…double..damn it to hell 👿

JD,

XP offers a Pincanniy type base and aweaver bases, a #17 I think it is. The rear of the receiver is drilled in two positions so that you can move the rings forward or backwards, and in my case, you can actually put two bases on the ear of the receiver.

I originally purchased a nifty little Burris 2×7 with the ballistic plex reticle for the rifle, howevera combination of the butt stock being too long and the scope being so short made the eye relief too far forward. As a result I had to really creep on the stock to get a good eye relief.

Once I opted to go with the VX11 3×9 Leupold with the LR duplex and extended rings it solved the problem of the butt stock being too long.

So to answer your question, I have two Weaver bases on the rear and one on the front.

Any news on your rifle?

Weather is really bad here to try shooting.

My Haley is enroute via USPO, with all this christmas mail it will probably arrive with the muzzle stuffed with either chrismas cookies or fruit cake from the hustle and bustle of christmas shipping and postal workers pole vaulting with it..

I just got notification from Midway that the RCBS 100 grain 258 GC SWC molds are in.

Ho Ho Ho mother fxxxer from the post office.

RC

Now….that’s what I like! RC, what type of rear base is that?

JD

Good for you RJ.

I grinnned so hard when I read this post, I bit my tit thru my shirt pocket.

RC

Dont be mad cause u gotta carry ur teeth in ur pocket. U do know they make a paste now to hold them in place. Btw im 30feet up a treewhile posting this. Aint technology great? As for me being a hillbilly im glad to have that title. I was raised in the city for 17 years. As soon as i got the chance i flew the coop. Ive been living this life style for sometime now. I raise rabbits and chickens and garden in the spring. I cast my own bullets and hunt and kill about 75 percent of the meat we eat for the year. Im danm proud of what i do.

Tedd,

Only reason I knew about it was I saw it a few days ago on the Military channel on their Warplane series.

So much for the Military Channel, they specifically said Nasa had cured th eproblem and even briefly interviewed some old guy even older than you or me if you can bleieve that.

But sounds like your right.

RJ you loose one more tooth and we will call you Beaver, well acutally you would need to loose all of them to be a Hillbilly Beaver. 😛
